The 32 Signs of a Great Man[edit] Seated Buddha, Gandhara, 1st-2nd century CE. Tokyo National Museum The Buddha is traditionally regarded as having the Thirty-two Characteristics of a Great Man (Skt. mahÄpuruį¹£a lakį¹£aį¹a).[7] These thirty-two characteristics are also regarded as being present in cakravartin kings as well.[7] The Digha Nikaya, in the "Discourse of the Marks" (Pali: Lakkhaį¹a Sutta) (DN 30) enumerates and explains the 32 characteristics.[2]These are also enumerated in the BrahmÄyu Sutta of the Majjhima NikÄya (MN 91). The 32 major characteristics are:[8] Level feet Thousand-spoked wheel sign on feet Long, slender fingers Pliant hands and feet Toes and fingers finely webbed Full-sized heels Arched insteps Thighs like a royal stag Hands reaching below the knees Well-retracted male organ Height and stretch of arms equal Every hair-root dark colored Body hair graceful and curly Golden-hued body Ten-foot aura around him Soft, smooth skin Soles, palms, shoulders, and crown of head well-rounded Area below armpits well-filled Lion-shaped body Body erect and upright Full, round shoulders Forty teeth Teeth white, even, and close Four canine teeth pure white Jaw like a lion Saliva that improves the taste of all food Tongue long and broad Voice deep and resonant Eyes deep blue[9] Eyelashes like a royal bull White Å«rį¹Ä curl that emits light between eyebrows Fleshy protuberance on the crown of the head

It would a hard sell to have another Referendum and certainly one which has 'Remain' on the ticket. And even tho' I voted Remain last time I have to say I do think that the first referendum has to be honoured otherwise it will be betrayal. Which leaves the question not 'do we leave' but 'how do we leave' - and that's either May's deal or No deal - as neither Norway or Canada are on offer as far as I know. I think this will arise in the following way - parliament votes out May's deal at which point she presents 'no deal exit' to Parliament and they vote that down too. At which point impasse - a general election would not necessarily solve this, but a binding referendum would. I have no idea if this will happen but it might.

Sounds like a quote from the Daodejing

Apparently so!

What they might justify - speculatively - is a choice between Brexit deal and Brexit no deal - i.e. remain not on ballot paper. So for instance if the Commons reject May's deal and March is looming - and there is a big majority (including Labour) against No Deal Brexit. They put the choice back to the people.

I was just being effortlessly annoying.

People take up opportunities that present themselves. You can't really blame them. Our ire should be directed at those that we elect to govern us if they fail.

It's an interesting thought how clever the Irish as part of EU have used the 'exploit' of the NI/Irish border to undermine Brexit. The leverage it has given them has been major. Yet again with May's latest visit the EU has proved intransigent as regards anything which looks like genuine negotiation. Rather than offering her some kind of olive branch - some weasel words around a protocol for ending the back-stop - it's just been non/nein so far. Perhaps they want her to fail and force a second referendum. Or just they are obdurate and ossified in their own inability to address issues in a positive and pragmatic way. Which of course is one of reasons that hardly anyone, even Remainers thinks much of the EU as an institution.

Come on, economic migrants are not greedy in that sense - ok they are coming from poor countries and want a better life for themselves, to work and send money back to their families (for the most part). It's not their fault if we have borders that are not properly maintained. The people at fault are the traffickers who take their money and offer them an illegal route to more prospects of prosperity. The EU has shown its self incompetent to deal with this issue and had at least three complete reversals of policy e.g. Merkels virtue signalling. Had they acted swiftly and effectively to police the traffickers and maintain the proper visa route for immigration then I am sure Brexit would have never happened.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity.

Neidan ( all experiences and opinions wanted)

NeiDan specifically means inner alchemy and has the specific goal of creating the 'pill' or elixir within the body to achieve immortality. It comes out of a tradition within largely Daoism (though also some other systems) and focusses on certain key ideas which were first elaborated in text called the Cantong Qi (sometimes Zhouyi Cantong Qi). Dan means pill/elixir and NeiDan is distinguished from Waidan which is external alchemy i.e. the use of substances/herbs and so on to achieve immortality eg. lead, sulphur, mercury etc. The Cantong Qi quotes from the LaoTzu and even more from the YiJing (as a way of validating its claims) - but neither of these is actually a Neidan text - more they supply a world view in which Neidan functions, a context if you like, and it also refers the substances of external alchemy but used symbolically for the energy systems of the subtle body - so the text will talk about lead but mean a quality or state of internal energy and so on. The processes of alchemy like purification, sublimation, distilling and so on are also used to signify internal processes. Nei dan specifically departs from using deity practice. Whereas previous traditions might rely on spiritual entities interacting with organs say, the Cang Qi refutes this practice. However what is retained is the idea of harmony and synchronicity of internal processes and cosmic cycles such as the sun, moon and Big Dipper etc. So the qi system regulates to the hours, days of month and so on. This is important, so you can discount any practice based on possession and so on. Qi is a universal term in Chinese philosophy as are yin/yang - and are used in different ways in different systems. So just the inclusion of qi or qi breathing and so on is not enough to make it a Neidan approach. It has to specifically deal with how to create the pill and then to achieve immortality. There are many schools within this tradition which use different symbolism - some is the same but just with different terms - but there are variations - so this may also until you unlock the key to how those terms are used be a source of confusion.- 163 replies

i don't think remain is an option. There would be too much backlash against whoever came forward with that. May has repeatedly committed the govt. to leaving in march. The closer we get to that the choice will starkly be 'the deal' or hard Brexit. I think there's quite a lot of nervousness about hard Brexit and it has to be said it contains many unknowns. So the result would be unpredictable, no one really knows. It could be another Millenium Bug or it might be a 10 year recession. So there will be some creep towards living with the deal - because at least with that there is some certainty. So I think by January the vote to accept the deal (reluctantly) will toughen up a bit. Possibly not enough to get it through though. If she gets some kind a fix for the back stop - like an agreed protocol for unilaterally ending it - then she's got even more chance. Given English pragmatism the other possible scenario is delaying Art. 50 on the basis of a General Election. If as the European Court has said that UK can withdraw unilaterally from Art. 50 then it does give some options around how this goes forward. Maybe.

If it descends into chaos and another general election then Brexit will definitely be delayed - I can't see both going ahead.

Offer a prayer: Our sovereignty which art in heaven, Democratic freedom be thy name, Thy Brexit come on earth as agreed in Brussels Give us this day our Irish back stop And forgive us our trade tariffs As we forgive those who impose tariffs against us Lead us not into a second referendum For thine is the Gove, the Davis and the Johnson, Never ever Theresa, Amen.

The Four Noble Brexit Truths 1. All existence is the European Union. 2. The cause of the European Union is ignorance and desire (for free trade). 3. The end of the European Union is Brexit. 4. The way to Brexit is endless and frustrating.

Waiting for Brexit Scene 1 : Downing Street (two figures, one in a Dickensian outfit and the other bedraggled and covered only in a Union Jack) (a woman dressed in blue emerges from the door of No. 10) Figure 1: Resign! resign! Figure 2: Traitor! I hope you are hanged! TM : I will finish the job. So f**k you Mr. Chang and Patrick Brown. (she turns and re-enters No. 10 slamming the black door) Figure 1: Nothing happens. Nobody comes, nobody goes. It's awful. Figure 2: Let's go. Figure 1: We can't. Figure 2: Why not? Figure 1: We're waiting for Brexit.
