No one knows what they are holding but I suspect it is a stone cylinder seal e.g.: which would be their seal of office. Hathor is synonymous with the Eye of Horus and since there would be statues of the king with each of the Nome goddesses - effectively he is saying I hold the whole kingdom together by linking all the parts to the whole (i.e. Horus' Eye). As a chat regular I would say - 1. I wonder how much the sexcapades thread put this in peoples minds and actually upped the tension generally. It gave the impression of lurid goings on which I have to say I neither saw, picked up on or took part in. the whole issue has been blown completely out of proportion. Also if people are doing retention and so on - they are already messing with their own sexual energy - sometimes in not very intelligent ways. 2. There was an upsurge in parody and joking around about sexcapades as well - which was not there before - so regular members (and I hold my hands up here) were often making jokes to diffuse the situation. Some members are very pious and find this off putting - but personally I hope we just let things calm down rather than attempt some kind of crack down on jokes - which would be very prudish for DBs. We need to let this go - its a storm in a tea cup - there are bigger issues to address IMO. If you are thinking about timetabled events - well remember we are all in different time zones - what makes sense in the US will not make sense in Europe and Australia. I want chat to remain a free to drop in drop out location for social interaction. If you turn it into anything else it just won't work.

Thank you Jeff for starting this thread. I do have some ‘problems’ with your fence building analogy though. You say this is based on actual experience and not ‘just some book theory’ - which puzzles me since ‘energy’ or perhaps better put ‘the energy field’ doesn’t work like this. And shields don’t work like this either. BTW all this talk of fences makes me think of people in their back gardens on step ladders looking into each others back gardens - but I think this is probably an English cultural reference since in the US its all open plan anyway? I might be wrong. Any shielding you might put up - and I agree this is not always the right thing to do - is spherical (as magic circles and so on are really 2D versions of a 3D image of the sphere. This isn’t just nit picking as it goes back to the paradigm of what you are seeking to do. Your analogy is also very linear, talking of six foot people and so on - the higher up you are the more advanced - but actually at the depth of our spheres we are all the same height - at least in potential. So it is possible to appeal in your magical protection not to your current state of spiritual attainment but to your potential. This might be externalised as in tantra as a deity - or a master from the path in who’s lineage you work. Thus effectively provided protection at the highest level even if you don’t possess that attainment yourself. Protection itself is not necessarily or even commonly ‘blocking’ - since blocking can just add to the attack. As in directly opposing a physical punch can lead to more injury since in effect you are doubling the blow. Most protection works by either assimilation and transformation of the ‘foreign’ energy or else by redirection. An example of redirection is to turn away and not accept the incoming ‘attack’ - or incoming energy. In fact it is the true origin of the ’turn the other cheek’ in the Bible. This became twisted by priestly ideas for social conditioning to the idea that you having been once hit should present the the other cheek for hitting in a kind of self-subjugation. Whereas the actual original meaning is ‘volte-face’ - turn your face - that is walk away from the fight by not acknowledging it. Cleansing by water and salt (as has been mentioned), censing with incense and also loud noises - bells and clapping is good for getting rid of negatives which like to hang around. And without falling into superstition there are amulets and so on that can afford protection.

It is fairly obviously about both those things - and given the strangeness and misunderstanding which seem to occur don't downplay the social side of this site. I'm sure we will come to a point where there is room for both.

I'd still like to discuss a little the role of protection and shielding on here as relevant to transmission activities. I don't think anyone is of the opinion that these things always work and are 100% effective in all circumstances. But its a useful point to say if you encounter something you don't like there is something you can do to protect yourself from it. What this boils down to for me is that we each have to take responsibility for ourselves. There is no teacher pupil relationship within DBs.

Well, firstly it may be subjective. I'm not sure that everyone possesses the level of awareness which allows them to distinguish between what the the other person is actually radiating and their own reactivity/baggage and so on which may become associated with the person in question. Other than that - if you are confident that you have identified a negative radiator then one may wish to offer them assistance directly or just shield yourself from it - or leave the room. As in 'real life' we will encounter all sorts and it's up to us to do the sensible thing.

Hello, We seem to have unexpectedly moved to Taoist Discussion for reasons as yet unconfirmed. I hope this doesn't break the flow. Perhaps the staff will be good enough to let us know why they did that. A couple of very important issues have come up on the last two pages. For instance: 1 ) people seem to find chat to be more vulnerable to some kind of influence than the main board - possibly because of the quasi-intimacy of the immediate chat function. Some people don't go there for this reason. I, on the other hand got here because I like chatting - but I usually, unless someone asks a serious question, keep it light and frivolous. Maybe this is my own protection against too much energy interaction/influence ... I hadn't considered that before. 2 ) advice on style and self protection on entering chat might be appropriate - rather than the current 'no sexcapades' warning. 3 ) the whole conversation has focussed a lot on the astral sex thing. You can easily see that there is a spectrum of ethical attitudes to this - from the rather dogmatic and censorious to the free and easy. This is why I think it is impossible to have a DBs rule for this - apart from 'what happens in private satays in private'. 4 ) I don't want to target the Light Group particularly - it's just that they are probably the most active group at present. So I don't think this should get personal. 5 ) A separate thread on self-protection would be a good idea - thanks for that suggestion TM.

Come on Jeff - I'm not creating a drama just recounting previous experiences in trying to discuss protection and shielding with you. But fair enough I will avoid stating your position - perhaps you will do so yourself.

Well to go slightly back on topic - what is this obsession with things have to come from somewhere else anyway? It seems to me to go back to old racial theories of superior peoples ... and the rest of us dumb schmucks who couldn't even dream of building a pyramid without an over-lord saying hey 'put one stone on top of another'. This kind of analysis goes back to the old colonials justifying their own presence as 'bringing culture and civilisation to the natives'. And we're kind of stuck with it. Pyramids are the most natural way to build long lasting structures in stone. Big at the bottom and pointy at the top. Very hard to make them fall over really - although they did manage to do that occasionally. And four sided is natural as well because we measure the earth by four directions - not five, six or seven. So to build a square base - why wouldn't you? Align it to the cardinal points to show off a little - yeah. Who needs aliens or Aryans for that matter? Why couldn't different people round the world come up with variations of that?

I don't know if I can sum up the conversation so far but I am getting towards: 1 ) astral sex between consenting adults - is their own business. 2 ) natural 'radiation' - is natural and to be expected in this place of awesome people. So that leaves intentional transmission and group work. Are they ok - in what circumstances and when and how? Although we haven't really agreed on different types of transmission and the use of 'tantric' sexual imagination. feel free to disagree with my summation by the way
