can't read that it's too blurred.

yes I'm aware of Sakya Pandita's criticisms but from what I can tell he was talking from a rather slanted understanding of Mahamudra. It doesn't come from Dzogchen but was taught to Marpa by Maitripa and originates I think with Saraha. In other words it was a direct transmission from mahasiddhis. 'No thought' is not taught as a goal anywhere in mahamudra - but it does occur in Ch'an teachings from the period which was practiced in some places. Anyway I am pleased to be left alone to practice mahamudra with all this dzogchenism about which seems to have developed a life of its own.

Seems to work quite differently to mahamudra.

Apech replied to Wells's topic in The Rabbit Hole
Just rewatched the Sarah Connor Chronicles recently and they were better than I remembered. Summer Glau was in Firefly too another great series which was cut off in its prime.- 1 reply

The dark cloud hanging over Kelsang Gyatso and the New Kadampa movement is the Dorje Shugden controversy - a tantric practice /deity which the DL says is harmful and has banned. This is really an internal Gelupa dispute which has been blown up out of all proportion as far as I can see - with protestors declaring it to be something to do with religious freedom and so on. Tsongkhapa was the founder of the Gelugpas which is of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism the most monastic. Obviously as monks take a vow of celibacy they are prevented from dual practice. This was a problem not only for Gelugs but also in the Kagyu tradition as is illustrated by Gampopa (a monk) a student of Milarepa (a lay tantric yogi). Gampopa is said to have resolved this issue partly by developing sutric mahamudra and also yab/yum as visualisation only.

My silence denotes ignorance not a refusal to discuss. Just thought I'd make that clear.

T_I, Although I share your dislike of the misuse of Buddhist terminology - this as you have pointed out an open forum where all views count. If we are not all free to express ourselves here (within the rules of civility) then we would be shutting out some views and establishing an orthodoxy - which we don't have as it is not in within the philosophy of DaoBums. There is a rule against ad hominem attack and armchair psychoanalysing of another user as suffering from some form of psychosis is close to breaking this rule. In fact it probably does break the rule.

You are right - and if I might add conduct also - living in the way of compassion and the 6 paramitas is good support for your practice to go the right way.

I feel the elephant in the room here may be the actual practice that Jeff, Jonesboy and others are referring to in making their comparisons to both Buddhist tantric yidam practice and Christian apocryphal mysticism. I they could explain in precise terms what it is they do to 'merge' or whatever then it would give the rest of us a chance to comment - rather than dancing around the loose terminology.
