Here's David Icke on 'is the world round' thing ....

Early Buddhism was very popular with the emerging merchant class in Ancient India precisely because he was not ascetic and other worldly - why he even gave financial advice, advice on business conduct and praised wealth.

Oh not really but maybe a reminder as to how shit things are getting. I kind of hold dear the 'Englishman's home is his castle' and 'individual liberty and the rule of law' as per Magna Carta, Bill of Rights, U. S. Constitution et al. I don't like to see it eroded cos it's all we've got between sanity and totalitarianism. When I get home on a winter's night and put on the lights I draw the curtains - not cos I have anything to hide but because I value privacy. So this is like saying 'we have the right to tear down those curtains and watch you day and night whether you've done anything wrong/illegal or not'. It's madness and it's sinister. I am paranoid but it doesn't mean their not out to get me. ha ha.

18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose , and was baptized . ... Brian ... this is being introduced by a Right Wing Conservative government opposed by Socialists ... so forget that one.

Bloody hell you making me look up the Bible!
-
The Buddha also taught lay people. In his time the duties of the householder (his target audience) were so onerous that it would have been impossible to practice. these days we live lives of comparative leisure and so becoming a monk is not so necessary. And even in the old days many great masters e.g. Milarepa were not ordained.

It just feels like the end or the beginning of the end to me.

VPN or TOR browser I guess. Not that Al Quieda or ISIS will think of this

Before you turn off the TV remember that all the semi-conductors in the printed circuitry rely on quantum effects to work. It is amazing in fact what scientists have achieved by applying quantum theory but without understanding it philosophically.

Who told you that?

For what it's worth I found a non- Buddhist book 'Fundamentals of Indian Philosophy' by Ramakrishna Puligandla very helpful because it allowed me to put Nagarjuna in the context of those other views he was critiquing. In fact my understanding of Buddhism generally increased vastly once I understood what Samkhya, Yoga Philosophy and Vedanta were all about. Particularly Nagarjuna is often portrayed as being up against Advaita Vendanta (although I am very sceptical as to if this is actually historically true) ... but once you begin to understand the difference between these two views you start to 'get it' on both.

Nice article here http://www.theguardian.com/news/2015/nov/04/relativity-quantum-mechanics-universe-physicists on relativity vs. quantum mechanics and latest experiments and so on.

The first one is a joke, seriously , didn't look at the second.

I've heard that he is not real but a creation of NSA and Government Obama health Care scam robbing fascist communists - is this correct?

Oi! less of that please.

Brian, I did what you said and I got this:
-
"why exhaust yourself trying to get the one and avoid the other" - I like that.
-
Lovely thread - enjoying reading it. Sounded almost Shakespearian at one point - not sure why.

@Nikolai - your questions are very interesting, thank you for them I am pondering hoping one wiser than I can answer

Oh yes cities under cities is common. As are sacred sites under sacred sites. the norm in fact.
-
How does he know this?
-
I don't of course.

It depends how you define civilized as it usually suggests urban/city dwelling. Why are hunter gatherers simple in your view? Only probably because those that still live like that appear undeveloped to us. But when it was the norm? well it was our natural way of life. There's some interesting recent work around Stonehenge which shows that the area around the henge was in use as sacred land for a long time before the stones were erected. I think this also indicates the intelligent interaction with our environment going way back - much earlier than people previously thought.
