The Expansion of Consciousness
Apech replied to Intentwielder's topic in Esoteric and Occult Discussion
@ intentweilder OK I don't think there's a strong objection to it being here (I might move it if the content becomes too much outside the brief for this subsection) but just for info the General Section is for "Eclectic discussion across a wide range of spiritual thought and practice. As long as you are up for a good time and remain respectful, you're welcome to discuss your path." This place is specific to western tradition. -
Edit Piaf ... je ne regrette rien ....

That is true of course. But I very much liked the idea and it seemed to explain why Jesus was so different from Old Testament prophets and so on. There's another theory that he was influenced by the Hellenic culture in Galilee via the Stoics and Epicureans and whatnot ...

Resting the mind in its natural state
Apech replied to Seeker of Wisdom's topic in Buddhist Discussion
Hi, I had to backtrack the conversation to see why we are talking about this. I think the point I was making has been misunderstood - probably because of my clumsy English. As I said before somewhere in the previous pages of this thread the way in which the practice is understood changes. At first we think we have to make a journey from a scattered and sometimes dull mine to a clear and calm one. We put some time and effort into this because of dissatisfaction with how we are. So its very much a pathway from A to B. But that pathway only has any relevance to how we understand things at that point. Later our understanding is different - if we tried to persist with the original practice we would actually create blockages. But we might have originally made statements like an 'even mind', or a 'clear mind' or a mind without thoughts ... however these lose their relevance. The even-ness or clarity we seek is like an antidote to our perceived condition ... but from the viewpoint of an awakened mind uneven-ness is not a problem, un-clarity is not a problem ... thoughts are not a problem they as perfectly natural to the mind because of going beyond what we projected as our earlier goal. For instance some people say they want to clear their minds of thoughts. But thoughts are part of the mind. There's a good teaching on this from 100,000 songs of Milarepa called "A Woman's Place in the Dharma' that is worth reading. -

Intentweilder - is there a reason you chose Hermetic for this post - would you like to move it to General Discussion? Let me know. -

Sure I have met such ... and historically I would say the Buddha of course, Marpa, Milarepa, Dusum Khyenpa ... is it your position that there is no such thing as inner realisation, awakening, enlightenment ... or whatever you want to call it? -
Wait what! What! I woke form my slumber and some Buddhist have crept into the Christian Mysticism thread ... in fact they crapped in the crypt and crept out again!
