Apech replied to JustARandomPanda's topic in Yijing

XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX XXX XXX XXXXXXX XXXXXXX is heaven over lake ... > can't get from one to other by changing one yang to yin. am I missing something or misunderstanding???? -
I Ching - Hexigram 16 - Daughter Under Mountain?
Apech replied to JustARandomPanda's topic in Yijing
Yes I thought about daughter as Dui ... but then wood/wind and fire are also daughters. If its daughter (dui) under mountain then that would be hex 41 'Decrease'. -

Resting the mind in its natural state
Apech replied to Seeker of Wisdom's topic in Buddhist Discussion
relatively speaking awakening is a goal and if you want to call it an endgame you can ... it may be a goal that ceases to be a goal when you get there ... this bit "And yet we still live in the world, we still get distracted, we are human. The path goes on for our lifetime " I have no idea what you mean ... the words seem to make sense but where is the meaning? -

Resting the mind in its natural state
Apech replied to Seeker of Wisdom's topic in Buddhist Discussion
I think in awakening you see things as they really are. Phenomena as empty, samsara as empty, nirvana as empty ... if ignorance is destroyed at the root then there is no need for calmness, even-ness, or insight practice. -
Resting the mind in its natural state
Apech replied to Seeker of Wisdom's topic in Buddhist Discussion
evened or awakened??? If we take seriously the 12 steps of dependent origination which start with avidhya = ignorance then the whole of samara depends on our confusion/ignorance. If this is replaced by vidhya (knowledge) then the samsara falls away ... or perhaps we see it for what it truly is and then does the mind have to be even or devoid of thoughts or in any condition ....DISCUSS -

We dealt with this before .... rigpa = vidhya = knowledge as contrasted to avidhya = ignorance (as basis for samara). -
I Ching - Hexigram 16 - Daughter Under Mountain?
Apech replied to JustARandomPanda's topic in Yijing
Wilhelm translates hexagram 16 as Enthusiam - the image is of thunder (arousing energy) over earth (yin receptivity) … what this refers to is the process of gathering inner resources so that you can respond positively to new things, situations in life or also emergents in your practice. TM has already pointed out that the only line that can be old yang is line four. This says you 'gather friends around you as a hair clasp gathers hair' - friends means helpful entities and the gathering together process is this gathering of inner resources - which is a description of what you are doing in your meditation. The old yang line turns to yin which gives a new hexagram 2 which is the Earth (the receptive) - this means you are working on becoming totally receptive. This is said to be in winter which is the time of maximum dark and yin so that affirms the message. If you unpack the inner trigrams which comprise lines 2-5 you get Water over the Mountain Hex 39 which is about overcoming obstacles - so the inner process you are going through involves keeping still (the mountain) while being in the position of being between a steep mountain and dangerous waters. Sounds bad but actually its just saying you are doing the right thing in practicing meditation (keeping still). Daughter under the mountain - there are three possible trigrams which could refer to daughters …. so as the message was unspecific I think the daughter is you … under the mountain again means you are keeping still. Overall this is an encouraging message to keep up what you are doing - work towards becoming as open and receptive as you can be - gather helpers to you - obstacles will be overcome like this i.e. by keeping still and not actively trying to attack them. -
Carp ... (hang on I hope I spelled that right)

Well! If your going to quote the Bible at me ... I think that's cheating. Sure but not by excluding others ... so he wouldn't side with the robber against the shopkeeper would he?

Will you remember me?

Its a very arduous task indeed. Did I say it was a mistake? I was implying that there is something deeper going on in Jesus than just favouring outsiders. In fact I would argue that he wasn't favouring anyone - he simply wasn't rejecting anyone ... so to rest of society who did reject tax collectors and prostitutes and so on it looked like he favoured them. After all I don't suppose you think he rejected (or failed to favour) shopkeepers do you?
-
You've lost me completely Jesus threw the money lenders out of the temple ... he healed people and told them to give up sinning (which would include shoplifting presumably) ... Well that's kind of the same as doing wu wei in the moment. the point is you act for the best - its not an intellectual thing but overall you try to do the least harm. But stopping someone robbing a shop is not harming them its helping them either preventing sin (theistic) or avoiding negative karma (buddhist). You need to think about that one a bit more I think.

I didn't say they were not in dire straits I said they were not necessarily in the most dire straits ... maybe the shopkeeper is going through hell trying to keep things together for his family .. who knows? I'm not one for these moral questions ... you just do the best you can and move on. Nothing to do with what he wants. God? How do you know what God thinks?
-
not necessarily
-
I don't see it as how more that the motivation is for the good of everyone ... the thief, the shopkeeper, other shoppers, yourself and the act reflects this ...
-
A person robbing a store would either be in a state of confused conflicting emotions or be in a state where they no longer understood that stealing is wrong. In either case if that were you how would you like to be treated? For instance if someone stopped you they would be helping you, if they needed to use force the same applies.
