I also like the idea of not having a position. I try to avoid having opinions ...

Negative Effects of New Age teachings

There's nothing wrong with thinking if you do it properly. That means you have to follow through ideas and test them to destruction ... if they don't collapse under scrutiny keep them otherwise dispose of them quickly. If a thought process is preventing someone from doing what they choose to do ... like sitting meditation more often then the thing to do is to examine the thoughts actively so that any flaw or inconsistency can be detected and then the pattern which has been built up will collapse. If you passively allow the thoughts to circle round in your mind then you can become trapped in an inertic loop which robs energy and leaves you passive. The thing to do then is to just will to break the pattern by doing something different and then you will be able to look back to see it for what it is. This will involve getting off your ass and stopping indulging. Possibly if the goal is more sitting meditation it will involve getting on your ass (LOL). -

Who's interested in becoming a Moderator?
Apech replied to thelerner's topic in Forum and Tech Support
Moderation is not really about stopping anything or controlling anything or about punishment. Its about allowing. Allowing conversations to progress, allowing people to express themselves without fear or favour. So for instance the 'no insult' policy is about allowing the conversation to continue without descending into flaming or abuse, about preventing members expressing an unpopular view from being shouted down, or certain people being picked on and so on. It prevents bullying, belittling and gives a voice to all. The same goes for preventing topic derail or hijacking into personalised obsessions ... these tend to close down debate or make it meaningless and repetitive ... so it is helping the board to steer things away from this. The exceptions are of course spam, porn and other offensive material. That's how I see real moderation skill. -
I;m trying to work out why this and the previous post are on this thread. i.e. a thread about Taoism vs. Buddhism ... I know we wander off topic a lot but ... ?

There were riots in major English cities last year by people stealing designer clothes and trainers. Nothing to do with race. Hmmm? -
They were waiting for the police to show up and when they did they attacked them which is why the police shot them.

I agree .... good explanation I take back my previous shock ....

yes I know who the Borg are ... I've watched Star Trek. You load an awful lot into other people's words. Who mentioned gun point or force? Not me ... I just remarked that the tendency for birds of a feather to flock together when applied to human's is a habit that does not have to be followed. After all we as a species left Africa 65,000 years ago to roam around the globe, to populate the earth. The different groups of human's are just different sub-groups of the original humans which got cut off from each other (as shown by mitochondrial eve and y-chromosome adam) ... we all share common ancestors. It is a fact that many feel safer huddled in small groups focussing on the differences and it is often more challenging to recognise our similarities instead. I don't see how following and promoting fear and hatred is anything to do with the Tao. I don't actually think that we should blend together as you suggest but I think we can live along side each other without hatred or blame. Difficult but possible. -
Here are some of the people who believe in racial purity having an interesting intellectual debate with the police: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/video/2013/may/23/english-defence-league-woolwich-video

Yes Celtic culture first arose in what is now Germany/Switzerland and spread westward. When the saxon tribes appeared they pushed the Celts to the fringes ... ireland, scotland, wales and Brittany ... this was after the fall of the Roam Empire. the Celts by then were Christians which is why there is a distinctive Celtic form of Catholic Christianity ... they were Romano-Celts like King Arthur who (together with the Roman Church) christianised the Saxons/Angles and Jutes. -
!!!! I never believed this conspiracy stuff about media manipulation ... but that's proof now ... he had no blood on his hands. But he/they did kill an innocent man ... so why did anyone think they needed to change the image? The crime as I said above is murder ... which is a criminal offence and not terrorism ... murder with a faux political/religious justification.
