OK ... then we agree.

That would be Osiris, or perhaps his phallus, when linked with the cap stone with the eye on it that would be Horus. Also the pyramid is the benben stone the site of the original creation in the first time (zep tawi) when the world was created. BTW I'm not sure I agree with the active/passive interpretation of Mercy and Severity. Mercy is the giving ... the gentle dew that drops from heaven ... while severity is the law, the world of form which hides the secret mysteries.

Not sure about that interpretation of the hands but ... the Pillars of Solomon's temple almost certainly taken from Egyptian temples where the two trapezoidal towers which flanked the entrance gate are identified as Isis and Nephthys ... the two sister goddesses who rescue and give rebirth to Osiris. Isis is identified in the Pyramid Texts with up upward movement (into light) and Nephthys with the downflow (into dark) ... life and death or the natural cycling of energy between heaven and earth. Osiris being the equivalent of the middle pillar. So one is giving (Isis) and the other is taking (Nephthys) ... in the Tarot these are the Empress = Isis and High Priestess = Nephthys.

"Madbritrihagagaitney" ... should we start our own cult???? What is this IRS building? A tax office? and where is it ... so I can stay away.

Well Isis and Maat are quite distinct ... with the only caveat that during the very late period Isis became a sort of universal mother goddess and assimilated just about every other goddess going (including many non-Egyptian ones) so maybe she assimilated Maat as well. Perhaps Rihanna will assimilate Lady Gaga and form a syncretic diva called Rihgaga. I think it might happen. Or even Whitney-Britney-Rhianagaga ... that would be a sight worth seeing. BTW ... are we actually going to discuss some western symbolism? I wouldn't mind ... but I've read this thread ...

What's this thread about? I've lost it ... the thread. No you haven't. Yes I have. No, you very much haven't. Have, have, have. Not all men are like this ... but I am. -
That sounds like the voice of experience Aaron ... so glad I don't even have to think about mod action any more.

The Emerald Tablet ... short and sweet.

Hancock's better on his druggy stuff than on Egypt that's for sure. No personally I wouldn't read him but I remember a talk on youtube where he said this about human's with animal heads ... related it to cave paintings ...
-
Human figures with animal heads and serpents are the things of shamanic ecstatic vision (see Graham Hancock on Ayahuasca etc.). Most Western symbology owes its origins to Egypt and Sumeria.

Dear Fellow Bums, This is my moderation resignation open letter. I've decided that my moderation activity has come to end of its natural life. I don't think anyone should do it for ever and its time for me to stop. Firstly thanks to Sean for creating this place and Mal for inviting me on to the moderation team and Cat for suggesting me. Thanks to the rest of Mod Team gang and to everyone else on here. I want to say a couple of things about TBs and about moderation. To anyone who still thinks there is some kind of inner conspiracy around controlling the board, favouring some teachers over others … or whatever it is you think is going on … forget it. There's nothing like that here. TBs is exactly what it seems to be and all the better of that. The mod team are just a bunch of volunteers who agreed to help Sean make the place a bit more civil than it was becoming. I've always thought TBs is a great place because there is no one dogma or preferred set of teachings here. It is only loosely Taoist after all. People come from different backgrounds and bring different knowledge and experience and it all goes into the mixing pot to create something unique. TBs has a life of its of its own. Sometimes quiet, sometimes sunny, sometimes stormy. In fact it seems to go through cycles. Even near melt down. But always comes out the other side intact. It reflects the people on here … individualistic seekers (?). There are some (you know who you are) who try to hijack, troll, or deflect the board into whatever obsession you have or whatever game you are playing. It doesn't really work. At worst its a pain in the neck and at best its a joke. I suggest … give it up … you only survive because the moderation is deliberately light touch. I would like to see TBs developed in some way to encourage more teachers to come on here … to allow more person to person interaction and probably in ways I haven't thought of. Not because I want to mess it up but because I know that change is inherent in life and if you stay the same then eventually the world passes on and things fall away and die. That's a Taoist thought I think. If anyone is thinking they would like to join the mod team I would encourage you to do so. But you should know that its mostly a tricky and unrewarding task. It changes your TB experience and certainly doesn't make you the most popular guy in town. But it would be good to get more people involved, specially if you have techie knowledge. Cheers anyway … and good luck. Apech.

The TTC has no philosophical basis especially in Chapter 16

Reminded me of this ... not sure why ... William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) THE SECOND COMING Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity. Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand; A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? -
