A lot a Egyptologists would dispute the shamanic nature of the religion ... because they don't understand it .. but putting this aside a few things are clear. The methods would involve a) contemplating death + after death states b ) ritual including gesture (mudra) and the use of incense c) dream state work d) chanting/ repetition of verses and so on. I don't know about the use of drugs although they had a good medical knowledge and used herbs and so on. I'm interested in the way in which the Sem priest wraps himself in animal skin. This is a recuring theme which appears in what is called the Sed festival - the king goes through this at his jubilee (usually after 30 year reign) where he wraps himself up to be 'reborn' or renewed, also there is a symbol related to Anubis (the god of embalming) called Imy-Ut ('he who is in his wrappings'). It seems like a kind of cocooning which allows internal transformation to occur. I don't know if other traditions have this.

GiH, Good points. But I understood this from CC's books so without checking I would say all these points are in there somewhere. A.

We've had the coldest winter for at least 30 years. It snowed again last night. It was nice at first to see everything white but now its just a drag ... been going on since Christmas Eve. What I need is for you to use shamanistic powers to direct some warmth across the Atlantic so I can save on my heating bills.

Still feels like winter here - bloody cold. Sunny today though so I suppose that's something. Anybody got a good exercise specifically for 'end of winter' blues????? Cheers. A.

Watch out, fabricated war around the corner

Iran is just the latest 'bogey man' for the west now that Saddam Hussein is no more. India, Pakistan and Israel all have working nuclear armaments - so why not disarm them? We invaded Iraq but not North Korea, Burma or Zimbabwe - where the human rights violations are as bad if not worse. There is a lot of spin going on - which will be (yet again) used to justify military action. Yours cynically, A. -

There's something very engaging about that image. I'm on Ch 8 now. I don't find the tape worm thing at all surprising - I think the context is about moving from human concerns to freedom. The man/woman dependency thing is about how conditioned our consciousness is and how this shapes energetic relationships. It's as bad for the man as it is for the woman - because its as bad being parasite as it is having one. What has happened to Taisha Abelar? I know she went missing after CC died and is presumed a suicide. I believe her car was found int he desert or something? Reading this book I have the feeling of real intelligence behind the writing and authenticity - no matter how literally you want to take it.

What makes you think his mom is psychotic! She is just acting like most Christians and while they are generally a bit crazy because their path is so far from the Way and full of the necessity to believe all sorts of things ... they are not certifiably mentally ill. The aversion to Wicca is probably due to 'thou shalt not suffer a witch to live' ... and other Biblical mutterings. Casting aside all the church nonsense the origin of Baptism is in libation with water as a symbol of voidity a common theme in the ancient world. If you decide to go ahead with it there is the option to interpret the ceremony in your own way and give it some proper meaning.
