can anything create its self or anything else?
Apech replied to shaolin's topic in General Discussion
Things that arise cause other things to arise through a kind of knock-on effect. I think this would come into your definition of make rather than create. To create out of nothing - is about how things spontaneously arise from no-thing, rather like the idea of the quantum field where small particles kind of bubble in and out of existence - this occurs because of the self differentiation of a field of energy. The field of energy is self-grading in that in takes up discrete vibrational energy states as photons and electrons and so on. Just my thoughts. -
You can either reach void through realization or through logic (by analyzing the nature of things) either way void as a theory is not much use. What kind of proof are you looking for?

Much better with banner back! Thanks! Not sure about blue and greeny color though.

Missing you already Quillan. You should start your own practice thread, I like your style. A.

Hi No I wasn't being Buddhist. A thing is an object (maybe an abstract one a 'think' also ? ha ha) and as such is finite and named. Yes I think the nameless is void. You could say Tao is nameless I suppose because: The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao. The name that can be named is not the eternal name. The nameless is the beginning of heaven and Earth. The named is the mother of the ten thousand things. but I prefer to think that once you have named things - then you have that which is nameless and I am not sure if that is the the same as 'that which cannot be named' = Tao. If you think of sets then you could draw a circle within which is all the named = 10,000 things, that which is outside the circle is the nameless. The Tao is the reality beyond the definitions of circles/things/names.???????? Just my thoughts.

Not sure what 'not tao' means. Absolute nothing = absolute no-thing , things are finite , no-things are infinite. Things are named, no-things are nameless and the Tao is beyond both.

I know what you mean but actually if you read stuff on the early universe you will find that scientists talk about the role of mechanical vibration (which they call sound) in the formation of structure immediately (well first few million years) after the big bang. Sound is just compression waves in matter - it doesn't have to be in the audible range.

Strictly speaking the word exist means 'ex-ist' - 'out stand' or 'to stand out' and refers to objects which can be perceived as standing out from the background. In order to do this they are finited - that is they assume a specific location, form, colour(s) and so on which define them. They have limits which arise because of this specifity. That which they stand out from is the continuum of energy/consciousness (or whatever you like to call it), this continuum is infinite and limitless. However it is not a thing and does not exist int he sense defined above - but it is real (or so I would suggest) and in ordinary terms could be said to exist as to say it doesn't suggests that you mean that there is no such thing.

Hi, That looks interesting. Evasive for water sounds like a negative quality but you seem to have counted it as positive. Where did you get the lists from? A. -
Very good and very sobering. Lets not forget good humour as well - I think its part of self regulation - i.e. gentle leg pulling is ok.
-
This thread has taken on a serious tone which I didn't expect. I thought humour was good for right brain function - but I suppose sarcasm isn't really humour in that sense. I take most of what happens on hear as gentle leg pulling rather than sarcasm - I'm assuming that we are all on a path of some kind searching for the same things. So we are all buddies really even if we fall out over something. No harm intended by humour. But I think that there's a problem sometimes with making it clear when you are being light hearted - its easy to upset someone unintentionally because emoticons are no substitute for tone of voice, body language and so on which help with normal conversation.

Ninpo, Do you feel that maybe sarcasm and masturbation go hand in hand so to speak? A.

We could call it THE MASS DEBATE.

Every now and then we have 'has taobums gone down the tubes?' kind of thread. Answer - its always been a bit like this - and I like it for that - a mixture of serious stuff, laughs and anarchy - why not - don't mod too much will you.
