Why is creativity considered a feminine trait when women don't create anything except babies?
Apech replied to Agape's topic in General Discussion
Priceless ... ha ha ha. -
Life's a bowl of soup... Boys and girls - minestrone... An old witch's brew.

Having read this thread I looked up Padmasambhava and his life story. Despite the problem of having to sort the factual from the mythic parts of his biography I have yet to find any evidence of an authoritarian oppressor (although he was born into a Brahmic royal family it seems). I can't see how he created a feudal system, especially as this kind of social organisation was more or less universal in the world until the agrarian reforms which accompanied the industrial revolution, starting in Europe and spreading across the world (not hitting Tibet until 1950s)... i.e. 200 years later. Everywhere, I think I am right in saying, the breakdown of feudal societies brought pain for the people (all of the peasants and some of the others), poverty, forced migration, war and famine. Tibet was so late in coming to these changes because of its remoteness - and the change came when technology (e.g. airplanes) made this less important ... a change which Padmasambhava famously predicted 1100 years earlier (approx.) in his poem ...which starts ..."When the iron bird flies, when horses run on wheels,
the king will come to the land of the red man" If for the sake of argument a person is enlightened and they tell other people about it and teach them - that makes them authoritative but not necessarily authoritarian. If you believe he was not enlightened (without going into exactly what that means) then so what? If you think he was - then maybe his words are helpful.

You will see from here Census that according to the 2001 Census (last one) in the UK 0.7% were Jedi Knights ... beat that USA! Also about 72% said they were Christian but less than 50% said they believed in God - explain that!

Yes, but what causes your brain processes?
-
I've read a lot on here and in links provided on some threads about the function of the brain and nervous system and the various biochemical systems in the body. Most of it is interesting and I see a lot to be gained by comparing physiology with the yogic/qi meridians and so on ... BUT I have always considered this body stuff as the result of energy/spiritual change while some of the discussion seems to suggest it is causal. For instance if I change my mood or if I focus on a particular thought-form or whatever then I change my body chemistry. Or perhaps we could say that sex is energetic and that the bodily changes and so on are the result and not the cause. Obviously feedback occurs and so if you pump someone full of a particular chemical how they feel will change but as a living organism our spirit (for want of a better word) is primary and our body follows after. However I read a lot which seems to suggest that it is the other way round. Any thoughts?

Life is just like this - You get up then you get down, Some stay up all night.

Identify the quote (a.k.a. Time to get to the bottom of this one...)
Apech replied to Pheurton Skeurto's topic in General Discussion
It doesn't sound like Lao Tsu to me and I can't find that quote in any translations I have. Also - what is it supposed to mean??????? -
Beyond the first light Shadows of trees like old men Pick dead wood for fire.

Not sure what this means. The limbic system is just part of the brain ... if this is the seat of consciousness or responsible for the different states of consciousness then its a bit like saying the circuitry in my computer creates electricity isn't it?

This is good advice I think.

Witch, I'm thinking the peaceful and protective aspect. You will recall that Sekhmet gets a little over enthusiastic and has to be calmed down with quantities of beer. In this case I was suggesting peaceful protection. The thing about agressive behaivour is that it has uncertain outcomes. In the text Set's power is like this - not essentially evil but kind of driven to the point that it stirs everyone up and creates chaos. A. Yes I agree generally ... but sometimes something specific is required. A.

Just some thoughts ... Probably the fast has shifted your attention from body-based perception to mind-based which has become harder to shut down. Your body will 'ask' the mind if it is ready to sleep by sending messages like 'shall I turn over' and if the mind responds then instead of falling asleep you will start fretful/ or uncomfortable sleeplessness. Best thing is to lie still until you have passed this stage and let your mind drift - do not focus on the thoughts but let them come and go. Another technique is to use breathing - see the breathing as coming from beyond you and returning to beyond you - so it is not under your individual control (if you see what I mean). This establishes a rhythm which is mentally calming. Otherwise get up and do something mundane - like clean your house or whatever ... A.

Witch, I don't understand why you are not appealing to your tutelary deity Hathor to extend protection over your friend. If you want a process then you could use the invocation of the Eye of Horus in the Daily Temple Ritual as follows: "Come thou, come thou in peace, O glorious Eye of Horus, You shine like Ra in the double horizon, And Set's power hides itself straightway before this eye, Which seizes it, brings it and sets it upon the seat of Horus. The word of Horus is Ma'at by reason of this eye. I am pure, I am pure, I am pure, I am pure." Here Set is the antagonistic forces which are generating chaotic/negative energies. Note that Set is not destroyed but is integrated into Horus ... energy is energy after all and it is a matter of assimilation. Ma'at here is the integrated good order restored by the harmonising power of the eye. Visualize Hathor as the eye extending her protection over the person. Light a candle while saying this or do it at dawn. A. PS. the 'thous' are optional part of a contrived archaism in the translation by Budge.

What is your definition of "Western Daoism"?
Apech replied to Stigweard's topic in General Discussion
OK ... but maybe even that way of looking at it is a Western one. A.
