I wondered why I kept coming back to post here! Do you think a babycham and a chocolate digestive would do? -
Hello all, Since we seem to be discussing karma I would like to say this, which reinforces what I was trying to say before. The way in which I understand that karma works is that each action creates a seed. This is the seed for future karma. That seed does not always ripen immediately, which is why you see people do quite bad things and yet seem to get away free. The seed ripens when the right circumstances exist for it to do so. This might be several lifetimes down the line. Things happen then and you wonder why you are having a rough time or bad luck. This might be, for instance, that you experience a lot of violence in your life - which you do not look for. In these circumstances I quite agree that you should take the position that life is a lesson and that you have to take responsibility. This is the only way to grow and develop as a being - and avoids the passive victim position of 'why is this happening to me!' - self pity. BUT the causal act may be so far removed temporarily that you as a person have no real active ownership in the ordinary sense. Steadfastly affirm the good - is a phrase that comes to mind. I think I am going round in circles anyway so I'll shut up now.
-
Yes, of course, but I was talking about an actual situation in which someone might be experiencing violence, for instance bullying. In this circumstance the victim is no more to blame than the perpetrator. The time for introspection is later when you have the time and energy to think about why things might be happening to you. You need to act from will and decide to either avoid, defuse or repel the aggression in a way that does not perpetuate the karmic chain. What I am saying is that your answer is too theoretical and would not help.

I understand completely what you (and LaoZi) are saying and I am not saying karma does not exist. I am saying it does exist. But I am talking about the best way to deal with violence. I think you need to think about the advice you are giving.

While I am sure it is true that we learn lessons from suffering, I think it would not be helpful to suggest to a victim of bullying that they themselves are the cause. After all we are participating in a world which has all sorts of violence and malevolent activity within it. Some is the unconscious product of ignorance but some is directly malicious. To suggest to a victim of bullying that it is their fault would be like saying the same sort of thing to a disabled person. This is clearly ridiculous and is based on a debased version of karma and what it is all about. It is better to think that the 'victim' is suffering from this activity for all of us, since we all share in the projection of samsara. Violence has to be addressed by natural intelligence. Listen to your inner voice which will tell you whether to walk away - or to face it down. If you walk away, hold your energy and remind yourself that you are not defeated, it is not your fault and affirm the higher principle of continuing to generate good will to everyone (including your enemies).

Granted... oh, hi, nice to see you ...oh! he's gone again (I'll never get used to that). I wish everyone would give everyone else a nice big hug.

Found this during absent minded surfing: Quantcast : thetaobums I wonder if Sean signed up for this - or do they do it anyway? I guess advertisers use this kind of data.

I'm roughly 68% male or was last time I looked. I will look up that thread. Ta. A.

Is this a Paradox which all spiritual seekers come to ?
Apech replied to ThisLife's topic in General Discussion
I thought we came here because we are interested in meditation, qi gong, cultivation or whatever and like to discuss it with each other. Isn't it as simple as that? P.S. there are some who just like to bicker and argue as well (unfortunately). -
Well, I for one am typical because I am 68% male. Anyway what's middle aged these days?

Well, I read his site and he seems to have been appointed by a mystic vision of Taoist immortals/gods. Mind you, let he without a mystic vision cast the first stone. -

Yes Newt, Someone may need a FU for indigestion if they resort to cannibalism! I guess I still naively expect dignity from priests if they are in great traditions. A. -

I find it a little strange that someone who says they are a Taoist priest would post something like this and I would question the motivation. I also wonder how someone in his position has so much time to post lengthy messages at such a rate. He is right about some things but quite argumentative really - another strange trait for a Taoist - to threaten to post under other names is completely out of order (for anyone) as it would completely undermine any conversation on here. As always on here unless we know someone personally we cannot be sure who we are talking to - if they start sock puppetry or trolling then all chance of conversation is lost. This place is successful because it is so open, eclectic and sometimes a bit crazy. Despite this I can't see any grounds for banning and only limiting if he completely floods the discussion pages. Its up to us individually to make up our minds about him. -
ThisLife, That's proper reporting!

I see where you are coming from Mak Tin Si and as I say I have already withdrawn so as not to offend - but there are all sorts of humor in this world and humor is a natural thing, sometimes a reaction to hardship and stress, sometimes a way of turning the world on its head and shaking up how we habitually see things. I am kind of surprised that as a Taoist you don't get this. But maybe its me that doesn't understand.
-
Well - I think a sense of humor is important - and Mal said 'be evil' - but no wish to offend anyone so I'm out.

C7 is the large vertebrae at the top of the spine and base of the neck. Is it this bone which has been wholly or partly removed? What kind of martial art was your teacher? Certainly no problem for softer arts and inner working.
