Looking for Proof of advanced taoist master's abilities
Christoph replied to tsa's topic in General Discussion
"hot foil trick A minor conjuring trick, not commonly used, in which a scrap of aluminum foil is crumpled and placed in the spectator's hand, then the performer suggests that it will become very hot. It does, since a chemical (often a dangerously poisonous mercuric salt) has been surreptitiously rubbed onto it to induce rapid oxidation of the metal, an exothermic reaction producing much heat in a very short time. The trick is not in the repertoire of any reputable conjuror but has been used by psychics." Why would a healer need such props? The wet foil was suspicious to me so a quick check turned up this nugget of info. -
cannabis that is.... and drinks wine as well "120-Year-Old Woman Claims Smoking Pot Everyday Is Her Secret To Long Life December 4, 2006 11:42 p.m. EST Komfie Manalo - All Headline News Correspondent New Delhi, India (AHN) - A 120-year-old woman claims that smoking cannabis every day is her secret to long life. Fulla Nayak, from India, says she reached the age of 120 by smoking pot and drinking strong palm wine in her hut everyday. She is living with her 92-year-old daughter and 72-year-old grandson. Nayak told The Sun newspaper, "I don't know how I've survived so long. Many relatives much younger than me have died."

I thought this was a cool article. The Amazing Fascial Web, Part II By Leon Chaitow, ND, DO Editor's note: Part I of Dr. Chaitow's article appeared in the May 2005 issue and can be accessed online at www.massagetoday.com/archives/2005/05/03.html. Author's note: Research information summarized in this article has been drawn from content in the 2nd edition of my book, Clinical Applications of Neuromuscular Techniques: Volume 1[Churchill Livingstone, 2001], due for publication early in 2006. Leon Chaitow is a practicing acupuncturist, naturopath and osteopath in the United Kingdom with over 40 years of clinical experience. Dr. Chaitow has authored over 60 books related to integrative and holistic healing methods and lectures throughout Europe and the U.S. He is the editor of the peer-reviewed Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies. To understand how this signaling system works we need to be aware of the role of integrins - tiny projections emerging from each cell, that act like mini-transmitters and receivers. To continue with the story we now need to travel into space. Ingber conducted research (1989, 1993), much of it for NASA, into why astronauts lose bone density after a few months in space. He showed that as cells deform, when gravity is removed or reduced, the behavior of cells changes to the extent that, irrespective of how good the overall nutritional state is or how much exercise (static cycling in space) is taking place, individual cells cannot process nutrients normally, and problems such as decalcification emerge. The cell's communication systems, via integrins, also diminish in efficiency when the cells distort. What Helene Langevin and her colleagues are now showing is that when deformation of cells and tissues occurs - such as that which happens to all of us when areas of the body are chronically shortened, crowded, compressed, stretched or twisted due to age, disease, trauma or progressive adaptation - the cells cannot function or communicate normally, or even demonstrate normal gene expression. And consider, from the bodyworker's point of view, the reverse of that scenario. When we normalize tissues that are tense/tight/deformed/compressed by means of massage, stretching, mobilizing, etc., we are not just normalizing the biomechanical aspects of the function of those tissues - so that, for example, the shoulder or elbow or neck or whatever, "feels" better - we are also improving internal cellular function, enhancing cellular communication and gene expression. If that's not a "wow" I don't know what is! The observation of Langevin et al, (2005) is: "The dynamic, cytoskeleton-dependent responses of fibroblasts to changes in tissue length demonstrated in this study have important implications for our understanding of normal movement and posture, as well as therapies using mechanical stimulation of connective tissue including physical therapy, massage and acupuncture." (Langevin et al, 2005) Consider the connections I have attempted to put together in this brief communication regarding different elements of our understanding of how the body works: 1. The fascial cleavage planes seem to have a great deal to do with where acupuncture (and many or most trigger points) are situated; 2. Cells communicate via (among other methods) mini-projections (integrins) that are capable of becoming deformed and distorted though age, overuse, misuse, abuse and disuse (and loss of gravity!), with negative effects on cellular (and therefore tissue) function, including communication, nutrition and reproduction (gene expression); and 3. The function of tissues, down to the cellular level, can be enhanced by appropriate massage, bodywork, movement and manipulation (and it seems, by acupuncture). Our work can really change the way the body works, and not just on the mechanical level. We influence emotion, the mind, the nervous system, immune function, and now we know that we also influence the way cells communicate and nourish themselves. In a future article for Massage Today, I will highlight another recent "wow" (for me) relating to the presence in fascia of contractile (smooth muscle) cells. The sites where these have now been identified include cartilage, ligaments, spinal discs and the lumbodorsal fascia. (Ahluwalia et al, 2001; Hastreite et al, 2001; Murray & Spector 1999; Meiss 1993). The implications are enormous. For example, Yahia & Pigeon (1993) have observed that: "Histologic studies indicate that the posterior layer of the (lumbodorsal) fascia is able to contract as if it were infiltrated with muscular tissue." If you are one of the many readers who have had the good sense to read Tom Myers wonderful book, Anatomy Trains, my guess is that the implications of a contractile potential in fascia will be another "wow" for you. And there's more. One more piece of the jigsaw puzzle has recently fallen into place. German research (not yet complete, on which I will report in a future article) has shown that fascia acts in a sponge-like manner, so that when stretched it loses a great deal of its water content, and afterwards, if the stretch has been long enough and strong enough, and if no more activity occurs over a period of 30 minutes or so, it reabsorbs more water than it lost in the stretch, and becomes stiffer than previously. I love Lidells unique, unorthodox striking style. Everyone thinks that they can hit him because his hands are low and then they get KO'd. I hope Cro Cop blazes through the UFC heavy weights to be the champ.

You are definately not wasting your time if you dont pratice retention.I like to have normal sex and not be a control freak about everything and have reaped numerous benifits from my practice. IMO reapeted sex without ejaculation sounds rather masochistic and probably not the best thing for your prostate.

So if you break the knob off and work out until your grip fails (not advised)then the clubbell could fly out of your hand and be dangerous. Not excactly a suprising conclusion. IMO the design could be better for the price though. Once in a gym an incline bench I was using broke when I had heavy dumbells so be careful around those benches Lozen. even though it wasnt a Sonnon bench.

The only thing I have experienced first hand is psychic telepathy and synchronicity, intuition. Never have seen a ghost or UFO but I am open to that possibilty.
-
Intu-Flow has been nothing short of amazing for me and the wife...its like you are your own chiropractor or massage therapist. Its made us both feel younger by reducing or eliminating joint pain and I have had my fair share of injury. I recomend it to all of my friends.

I think that my idea of a standard model is probably from a different perspective than yours simply because our backgrounds are differnt (being male, age, experiece, disillusion ect.) Go into any typical weightlifting/bodybuilding gym anywhere and the male "model" is to be bigger, stronger, more ripped ect all 'performance as an end result attitude'....that is all I meant. That is a bit of a dead end IMO. Performace should be a byproduct of skill development. And I agree totally about tailoring exercise for what works best for you but many people arent open minded enough to explore( not refering to you).

I am getting the feeling that you simply like to engage in debate maybe because you dont like Sonnon..I dont know...anyhow this article explains it in great detail with less marketing than the Royal Court article. http://www.rmaxinternational.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7200

I meant sustainable progress as more weight and reps as opposed to sophistication and complexity. I didnt mean to imply that weight training is not possible into old age just that the standard model of progressive resistance training is not.

tendonitis in the elbow. suggestions?
Christoph replied to tumoessence's topic in General Discussion
I had it for over 2 years...tried everything and there is only one thing that finally cleared it up for me...stop agravating it. I had to quit my job, stop lifting and stop kickboxing before it finally healed. IME good luck maybe yours isnt as bad...I had a partial tear of the tendon. -
I think that Royal Court, heavy weight trianing ect definatley do have their benifits but is it sustainable without injury or pain?....not likely for average people. More weight and more reps can only take you so far if you value health over performance. Thats why I really dig the complexity and sophistication of Sonnons programs. Jack Lalane is awsome but have you seen him move?...not graceful at all in comparison their is a vid on youtube of a 94 yr old man doing Bagua that is absolutely beutiful, agile and flowing...flow with the go right. Cameron...good luck and speedy recovery with the knee(been there, done that).
-
I agree totally.I have been involved/worked in conventional fitness for almost 15 years and even though Sonnon's material can be rather pedantic I think it is an amazing health first approach that shifted my paradigm of fitness.

Hmm I kind of thought it was widely accepted that Geller is a fake. Chris Angel does amazing illusions and psychic tricks and he never claims to be supernatural whatsoever but if he did I am sure he would have many followers/believers. -
I ate shrooms when I was about 19 and quit watching tv for 4 years the very next day. I may eat some again in the future.

I have had success with being able to consistantly enter the vibrational state while listeing to binaural beats. The closest I have come to lucid dreaming was a couple of weeks ago when the power went out so I got up but it was 4:30 so I went to sleep on the couch and then started dreaming I was waking up on a paralell couch....pretty cool. The book I have says naps and/or early morning will be your best bet.

Thanks guys! I must admit its nice having a B-day on Halloween because nobody forgets and it made for some nice parties as a kid.

Peregrino Cd 1-boxing with 2 0r 3 min rounds cd 2-kickboxing with 2 or 3 min rounds cd 3-all around fighting with sprawls and sit outs...2 or 3 min rounds cd 4-all around workout with push ups, sit ups, mountain climbers, bridging ect. DVD instructional. With Bas calling the combos its very motivational. It is more than worth the price which is modest for what you get unlike "Matt Furey's" material.

"Not talking about speeding recovery--tell me if you have problems in the area when it's cold out years later." Not exactly sure what you are saying here. I am refering to application of cold packs on acute and chronic inflamation, usually in the joints. I had patella realignment surgery 15 yrs ago and cold weather doesnt bother it at all and I assure you it has seen plenty of ice packs. I have had chronic tendonitis of the elbow ,dislocated shoulder, back strains ect.cold weather has no effect and cold packs have always helped and the times I tried heat it did not help and even made it worse for my back spasm.IME
