I hope you're merely pretending to be serious now.

Well you started by calling Kung Fu Hustle a great movie. I find that offensive.
-
Well, the hint that it's 'even better' than Shaolin Soccer was helpful. Didn't like that one either, except the soccer part. Kung Fu Hustle is even more absurd. I can enjoy Naked Gun type absurdity, but Kung Fu Hustle is throwing inconsistencies in people's faces that it's a mess. The actors really try hard (and succeed) making their characters be unnaturally absurd. You know? You can play absurd in a skillful way, but this is bad acting, too Let me say it this way: If you can laugh your ass off at a cross-eyed guy bunnyhopping and shouting LALALALA, then this movie is for you. That's roughly the style of Kung Fu Hustle. To make it even worse, the director had thrown in a portion of cold crime drama and switches whenever he likes. The thing feels like the director has grabbed some crappy Asian theater stage comedians and told them: Go ahead, be funny! First time I saw that movie, I managed to watch a few minutes. This time I tried hard, but still couldn't watch the whole thing. There were a few brief incidents where the director - seemingly randomly, by chance - got a joke to more or less succeed. The movie is probably a good demo of how to take potential for humor and ruin it. (Maybe one has to watch it drunk or high.) The IMDB comments should have been a warning. If reviewers get a verbal orgasm describing a movie, it's a safe bet they're not giving an accurate account. (Claiming that crappy totally non-lipsync English dubbing is part of the humor is a good sign of 'brainwashed fanboy'.) Last time I've seen so much rewiever delusion was after the latest Star Trek movie. It's also a bad sign if some of the negative reviews to a comedy movie are funnier than the movie itself. Also interesting to see how people in a culture copy from each other. Or is it coincidence that Jackie Chan novies have a lot of similarities in style? I don't like his 'hyperactive action' either. It tries to be funny too hard. Did they learn their 'art' from watching The Benny Hill Show black&white pantomime shorts or something?

Yeah, it's sad. All the stuff people need to know to free themselves are ... ironically ... freely accessible. Governments have done certain stuff all the time, and it's undisputed. ... But denial is very powerful. You will have people saying that just because the US government has been conducting illegal subversive activities doesn't mean it's doing it NOW. Because, you know, TODAY we have the awesome (insert random president name) as a president. Those are probably the people who believe that the new washing powder formula is the best there ever was.

Lack of self-confidence and sensitivity aren't the same thing. Much of society is heavily influenced by bullies, thus sensitive people are more vulnerable to the psychological warfare going on in society. But that sensitivity has an upside: It's a more detailed awareness, more desire to bring new into the world. The old resists the new. If you CAN find the means to move to a more supportive environment and are confident that it's not an 'escapism', do it. Don't blindly trust people telling you you have to learn to deal with major crap. It might be just their own inferiority issues talking. People who are less sensitive will naturally assume that the environment that provides them an easy way is the 'normal' condition and try to perpetuate it. Don't adapt to something that does not resonate with your core as the way to go. Crap is not there for people to adapt to it, but to get rid of it. Adaptation is merely a less-than-ideal strategy for when the alternative is too difficult.

During the two-day workshop I attended, he badmouthed Liao, claiming he stalls and gives people next to nothing so that they pay him big money without getting much in return, binding people to him like a cult, and that he, Gary, give people 'the real, powerful stuff' right in the beginning. A young man in the workshop hwo probably was relatively impatient regarding these things agreed with Gary and obviously became an instant admirer of him. After all I've learned so far, it seems to me that Liao is doing things the traditional tough way, not luring people with 'instant power', but putting much importance on cultivating character and virtue first in order to balance the whole teaching, and Gary is a good example for what happens when you don't balance it - although cause and effect don't have to be clear. Maybe he had his peculiar personality before he learned from Liao and that was why he didn't like his approach. I've skimmed the video of Frantzis where people commented about it that he's egomanic or self-aggrandizing, and if at all, it seemed VERY mild to me. Not in the degree where one would have to be worried. Telling anecdotes about ability and boasting about power are different if you pick up on the subtle details in personality expression.

This is surprising coming from a Clyman fan. After all Gary Clyman is badmouthing Liao's teaching methods.

Changing Destiny, Liao Fan's Four Lessons

@Harmonious Emptiness Exclude all the problematic character traits mentioned in your posting and tell me why there's still a problem. Because, as I said, your view seems to come from fairytale land. Moralistically simplistic. More buddhist doctrine than Taoist wisdom. -
It's like that law about discussion eventually having the mentioning of a certain historical persona. It's not saying anything. In infinity, everything will occur with a likeliness of more than zero, so since the whole thesis is based on an open timeframe, it becomes stating the abvious. And since many talks on the internet aren't that long, many don't turn into an argument.

The term "America" referring to the USA is a generalization based on the USA's arrogant nationalism. I was pointing out that deeply ingrained higher-level generalization. Language shapes thought and thought shapes language. People complaining about easily visible things often overlook similar less visible things. You were talking about geography, which demands even more to call it "USA" if you want to be correct, since America is a continent. Question: Which is bigger? America or America? One would have to respond with another question: You mean the continent vs. the country? But if you are that specific... there is not country "America". Also, "USA" is much shorter than "America", so why, with rampant writing-laziness everywhere, use an incorrect and confusing longer word instead of a shorter word? ... Because national pride shapes language, because "We are the greatest nation in the world" is more important than proper language. It's like an animal rights activist who wears a fur and when pointed out saying: "It's already dead. It's totally different." BTW who do you think came up with the idea to call humankind "mankind"? Who equaled "man" (species) with "man" (gender), hm? Same thing. Male-dominant society/religion spinning language in their favor.

So if it were so-called common to equal Germans with the word "Europeans", using the latter when meaning the former, that would not be hypocritical? Common usage doesn't equal wise or logical or non-hypocritical. It's common knowledge in Germany that skinheads are neonazis. It's a false assumption, but it's common.
-
I caught you in a delicious hypocrisy there. You say people shouldn't generalize about Americans, that it's as silly as generalizing about Europeans would be, yet your numbers aren't those of America, but of the USA. You're doing EXACTLY that which you're calling silly in your posting.

Good example of nature's power: Oil spill disaster. Humans try to figure out which chemical to use to neutralize the oil. ... Horrible chemicals which might kill all the oil-eating bacteria that they had no clue about. Man, people don't know shit about the planet they live on. Severe trust and control issues.

When will you realize that all systems can be good if there's no corruption? People are susceptible to corruption, thus all systems with people in it can be corrupted. Very few systems - those developed by genius - are inherently corruption-resistant. Small government is a solution. Small government is not a solution.- 48 replies

Since raining is a process, "mainly" has to be taken as including time, so even if it's raining, the rain in Spain MAINLY stays in the plain. Let me add something cynical: If you asked the average US American to say something completely indisputable, you might hear something like: "Obama is the icon of a new era."

Changing Destiny, Liao Fan's Four Lessons
Owledge replied to Harmonious Emptiness's topic in Daoist Discussion
You get off your butt and do something but succeed at nothing. Your destiny being that you'll never succeed at anything. How do you change your destiny? I've read the into for Creating Destiny from the pfd file. Sounds like buddhist-moralistic talk for people who already have a lot of influence. They're changing their destiny all the time, if you can call it that. The idea that if you simply do good deeds, the universe will reward you for it, seems almost infantile. Real life experiences disprove it as a general rule. Well, to be fair, if one pays close attention, it's in the writing. It says, if you follow the guilde, it is GUARANTEED that your destiny CAN change ... not that it does. But then the word "guarantee" is misleading. -
Profound wisdom. Helps practicing the skill of only perceiving what is there and not adding anything to it. Gravity... stay the hell away from me! The intended message of that picture is this: It's not a pipe. It's a picture of a pipe. Let people have their period.

Well, what I heard was in connection to the Olympic Games, about an intended boycott, no so much because of racial tension or respectless treatment, but poverty standards and medical care, aborigines treated like lesser humans by the system. I think I saw a documentary or a news report, but can't remember details. Maybe I'll investigate again.
