  1. Example of BBC hack job

I have no idea where you derive that from. Looks like another logical fallacy. Analogue to abusive sexual harassment claims, people could start sueing others for making statements that they found hurtful because they are emotionally troubled. That's why both sides have to be examined critically. In fact, it's not an uncommon behavior of emotionally disturbed people to turn their feeling of being threatened into aggression. In extreme cases, people who see themselves as victims can wreak havoc. There are sufficient means to deal with ordinary (civil, small-scale) cases of libel/defamation. If it doesn't happen, if a happy, joyful, active person commits suicide over internet slander, I smell a skeleton in the family closet. And if not both sides are moved into the spotlight, we get stuff like the "killer-games" debate. Very often when people ask in a dramatic way: "Oh, how could this happen?! Why? Why?!", it's rhetorical. They don't really want to know, but are glossing over an inconvenient truth with the sweet obscurity and helplessness of drama.
  2. Example of BBC hack job

You know what would really have been funny? Wrestler: *slap* - I this fake? Wrestler: *slap* - Does this look fake to you? Reporter: Yeah, that was totally fake. Try this. *BAAAAAAM* There you have it. Trolls are terrorist. The language in the first seconds of he video already screams agit-prop. They also added mobbing to the collection of things trolling allegedly is.
  3. From my current understanding and common recommendation, the third eye (or crown?) region should not be opened too much early on. Secondary question: Might third eye and crown be confused a lot of the time? Aren't higher states of consciousness through an opened third eye totally dependant on the crown being opened, too? Now how would an opening like that be different for someone where the lower chakras need some work conpared to someone where they are on the same level of development? And what chakra is most important for balancing out that state? Is it the heart? Or is balance of all chakras more important? I'm asking because I'm suspecting that my head chakras are too open or too energetic. My magnetic energy feeling according to the Kunlun system's Red Phoenix 1 have somewhat increased in strength since my ayahuasca experiences, but they are there a lot more often now. The problem is that my 'DMT adventures' ended in front of a tough fear-barrier that seemed impassable right now, but during sleep, it seems as if DMT trips tend to start by themselves. I had two/three different kinds of experiences like that, both times woke up very quickly, and afterwards I have the same mix of emotional symptoms that I'd really like to confine to deliberate DMT ingestions, because they're mostly fear. The first time I was mostly freaked out, but the second time memories of my ayahuasca trips came back, of total dissolution of reality, you know, the kind that spoils the fun of life. You could say, I concentrated hard on forgetting as quickly as possible. Although that scare had the same effect of a life-affirming boost as my ayahuasca trips had, staying with that memory would not be productive, or at least not bearable. Oh, and most recently, I had that feeling of sickness/poisoning with slightly shaking body parts - pretty much like the experience I had with low DMT levels. (Including very little appetite after experiences.) That state, by itself, gave me a strong conviction that I need grounding, grounding, grounding, in the hope that this will bring the energy out of my head, but I'm not sure it works that way. All I can say is that if I'm meditating on my lower dan tien, this could even increase the magnetic energy feeling in the head. I know what the DMT is trying to do: It wants to work on a root chakra issue. But the freakout factor is too destructive, so now I'm doing grounding so that the issue can be healed in a softer way, but finding opportunities for that is a bit difficult sometimes. related current post of mine: http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?/topic/23900-kunlun-red-phoenix-1-feeling-should-it-fade/ EDIT: Please keep your writings down-to-earth if possible. Even reading 'higher-up' stuff makes me uncomfortable. Please no philosophical stuff or ideas.
  4. Uniting heaven and earth in 2nd chakra?

OK, I'd have to know whether the sactral chakra is really not the same as the lower dan tien. Would surprise me, since there are also middle and upper dan tien, and surely those coincide with 4th and 6th chakra.
  5. The Science of Sex Appeal

I've only watched the first few minutes so far, but they don't start well. They talk as if physical attractiveness was the only factor relevant for partner selection. They mix up interpretations of words in order to prove their point. I guess that's called a strawman argument. Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, personal taste. Physical attractiveness does not equal beauty.
  6. Industry cleaner for McD smell on fingers?

Yeah, I only ate it for strategic purposes. Long story. Here's another one: If a coroner wants to know what the victim's last meal was, he can tell whether it was McD before doing the autopsy.
  7. Every time the news are on

Can't see that one without a youtube account, because it hasn't been evaluated; might include adult content.
  8. Depraved penguins

Haven't read the whole thread, but in a German zoo penguins were observed to turn to homosexuality and through that they realized they had only males in the compound. Also, I remember a documentary talking about flocks of male dolphins hunting a female to coerce her into sex. Humans are animals. Fewer differences than people think.
  9. Every time the news are on

Thanks for pointing to this class A satire, Sinfest! It's an interesting type of satire, because the fact that it's almost indistinguishable from actual news reports is part of the strategy - to point out the subliminal bs-spin-methods used by the media. I especially love it when the last statement is the best example of this... "... In international news - the equivalent of five Americans were killed in Afghanistan today." "... Organizers called this year's event the most successful so far. Only four girls were killed down from a dozen last year, making it the most accident-free on record."
  10. I was wondering: Do you know of online shops where clothes are sold that are not meant for LARP/costume purposes, but more practical, meant for showing an unconventional look in everyday life? I mean, in SF/fantasy in movie and TV, there are so many examples of clothing that is really innovative, and in the real world you see very much the mainstream only, and ironically, even the supposed fringe groups thus become part of the mainstream (like goth clothes for example). I feel it would add a lot of magic to everyday life if people could disconnect from the latest-fashion-doctrine, but that needs support from the supplier side, too. Movie/TV producers show that there are so many nice things that can be done with fashion without making someone look like wearing a costume.
  11. I hear some people pronounce the word "question" with the "s" like an "sh". Is it a regional dialect or just sloppiness?
  12. Question to Kunlun practitioners (Hopefully some are still active here. I'd ask Max, but that's pricey and inconvenient): That magnetic energy feeling in the head, along the distinct path... - Does it always eventually occur when someone begins Red Phoenix 1 and/or gets the transmission? - Is it supposed to only be felt as long as there are barriers to the free flow? If so, will there always be barriers? - It seems that some people have it all the time, some not. What determins this? Is it directly dependant on how much you are 'in your head'? Will grounding stop the feeling? related current post of mine: http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?/topic/23899-3rd-eyecrown-opening-how-are-effects-affected-by-other-chakras-state/
  13. Yeah, I noticed that issue. There is a difference between having awareness in the lower dan tien and directing the mind's eye into it. The latter is no good.
  14. The problem I'm trying to point out is that currently that barrier is too big of a chunk. I don't have the strong foundation that gives me the courage to break through. I mean, I already have one additional fear now - the fear of not being able to slow it down and thus get even more imbalanced. I might be mistaken, dunno, but I feel I need to put it on the backburner and dissolve it with love instead of brute force. And if I gain trust that the process will go slow enough so that I am able to function normally, I can more easily give in to it. Also, I've had enough hardcore suffering lately - 3 ayahuasca ceremonies plus mapacho detox. I'm really yearning for some enjoyment for balancing it out. I know as a fact that those can have a great constructive impact on me, despite my issues. Thanks for reminding me to contact my shaman! Good idea! Forgot about that. In case my writings to suninmyeyes don't make this question not applicable anymore: Could you explain in more detail how it helped you and how the process went and what happened? Heavier diet might be a good and easy remedy, but - especially when it's dark outside - I tend to have very little appetite, and eating heavy stuff might make the feeling worse.
  15. I was wondering about the whole reincarnation idea. It seems to employ some of the closedmindedness of Christian doctrine, about humankind being the only sentient beings in the universe. 1) How is it that when the idea of reincarnation is used to examine former lives and such, that, apart from a tendency of rare gender change, it's limited to humans? 2) Isn't the 'illusion of time' part of buddhist teachings, too? How comes that a metaphysical idea like reincarnation assumes a linear progression through time? 3) Why is reincarnation involving humans at some point in time limited to planet Earth? Seems to me that the limited scope of the idea makes it flawed in the same way that Christian teachings can be seen as flawed: only limited to what we currently know empirically. Rhetorical summary question: When you die, why shouldn't you reincarnate 5 million years BC as a crystal dragon on Proxima 9?
  16. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the fact that spiritual teachings are sometimes misrepresented in movies and TV - like symbols shown in a clearly wrong context, making misleading implications, all that. I was inspired to ask this when I saw one case in the TV series "The Legend of Korra". That fictional universe is generally mixing Japanese and Chinese stuff (but Western, too) as if there was no difference. So far not really a problem, since it's fiction. But where I think it exits this 'creative freedom licence' is when authentic real-life symbols are shown in that context. The fictional universe is based on the (Japanese?) four-elements teachings (fire, water, earth, air) and mentioned their associations (like air being about circling motion - not sure whether that's even according to the real four elements system). But then it hit me when I saw Korra doing bagua on the authentic Taiji symbol with surrounding eight trigrams. This to me is potentially misleading and creating a pop-culture view on internal martial arts and generally taoist teachings the same way external kung fu got messed up by pop culture. How can you have a depiction of the basics of Taoist teachings, which are strongly connected to a five-elements system, and put it on top of a four-elements system? I'm very tolerant with that stuff, but when I saw that huge and clear and authentic symbolic Taoist and bagua stuff, I felt like it wasn't in the realm of creative fiction anymore. It makes the creators of that TV series look ignorant and careless.
  17. In a way, Enishi probably hinted at the general problem. Since it's fundanentally entertainment and its survival depends on money, it won't 'risk' helping people on a higher vibe; instead it caters to the smallest common denominator. The whole thing is like trying to depict "yin" with yang-only means. It's funny how things start to become looking very weird/unsettling when observed from a different viewpoint. I've changed to a point where the idea of violence/conflict isn't even entertaining anymore, and when I see the advertising for the myriad of computer games, the vast majority of it looks sick. It feels like 'Come and get your daily shot of bloody carnage! Be the best murderer in the world!' Or strategy games: 'Become the ruler of the world! Change history!' ... Wow, messed up ncentives, but they work ... for children even. And that's why I'm so curious about how the whole patience thing will be depicted in Legend of Korra. The audience cannot be expected to be patient at all. I'm glad we have quality entertainment like that*, but as the quote expresses: viewers will only see what they are ready/willing/capable of seeing. If it is watched by a child who has already been influenced by the power-hunger mentality, it will be seen as an awesome magic-fighting show with 'some esoteric mumbo-jumbo thrown in for coolness'. I sometimes perceive a sad irony when fans of a movie or show, worshipping the hero, are effectively thinking/behaving just like the villain. Not that this perversion-phenomenon isn't extremely common in all areas of life. Sometimes it's hilarious, for example when a youtube video talks about how people are incited to hate each other by the ruling elite and then the comments section becomes a total flame war. *) Children are not stupid, adults tend to treat them like that. Just because bad script writers happily dump their crap on children's TV doesn't mean that that's what they really want. They can handle a lot more refined and detailed real world topics than they get credit for.
  18. Maybe your mind came up with that dream because of your thyroid problem. Maybe there's even a message in it. Maybe you should take care of yourself first when the stakes are high. Maybe a feeling of blind duty is harmful to your health. Or whatever.
  19. Definitely not English. P.S.: What I found a bit sad in contrast to the old show is that they couldn't even make up a different layout for the big city, but used an authentic Manhattan map. It's so clichée. Creates a weird overall effect with that kind of mix.
  20. (response to a deleted post:) German TV host GĂĽnther Jauch in fewer words: TV makes dumb people dumber and smart people smarter.
  21. Interesting link (of course files under "Opinions"), as if the Washington Post has higher standards for articles. Not really something new though, and I don't think "Legend of Korra" has a hidden agenda of confusing Taoist techings, because it generally displays a lot of love for spirituality. It just looks like bad style. What I'm curious about is how the general idea will develop in that TV series: There might be a 'battle' between plain action entertainment and spiritual depth, because Korra still has to learn airbending, and that's based on patience, and she has very little. Now her hot-headedness has led to some basic progress in airbending, and I'm wondering whether the show will actually depict the principle of patience at some point, or whether that is considered too 'daring' to subject the young audience to, and will instead be replaced with more action sequences.
  22. German speakers

    - "der (die) Gestaltfähige(n)" - or "Verkörperung(en)" - or "Erscheinungsbild(er)" Three possible translations, but the first one is an actor while the other two are objects/results. So the suggested translations for said word are: - "the one(s) able to shape things" OR "the one(s) able to assume a shape" - or "embodiment(s)" - or "apparition(s) / appearance(s)" It's not wise to suggest a translation that consists of a made-up word like "gestaltfähig" without further explaining it. I can only guess, based on the other two suggested translations, that the writer means 'assuming a shape'. Someone able to shape things would more accurately be "der (die) Gestaltungsfähige(n)". But since she suggests this as a synonym for "god", it would be the other option ... 'the shaper' if you will.
