What do energetic practices have to do with enlightenment?

Freedom from the cycle of rebirth. -
I never said anything about extraordinary abilities. Thank you.

Call me 'dirty' if you like, but all that hip moving got me thinking about 'lower energies'. And I liked it

What are the CORE practices of Stillness-Movement?

So is the other part of the formula emotion or energy? On another note, is the mechanism of magic essentially the same as the mechanisms of karma?

How are you going to learn ANYTHING without a teacher? IMHO, you're up shit's creek without a teacher. You may be up shit's creek with a teacher too, if they don't know what they are talking about, and then you listen to them and emulate them. Which is why you have to choose your teacher with some serious consideration.

Hi mewtwo, Please ignore the below if I am off-base, they are just suggestions based on the very very very little I know about you. I am from the old school, where I wouldn't even consider teaching without my teacher asking me to. I know, however, that you seem to be in a different position. The question is: do you REALLY think you can give students the best? It debases the arts if someone who isn't ready to teach starts teaching. What does any of this have to do with certificates? I don't know that it is a simple as "this is yin, that is yang". In relation to vegetables, raw meat is yang. In relation to cooked meats raw meat is yin. But this isn't very important in my humble opinion. You should listen to your body and eat what it needs/wants, and then you naturally stay in yin yang balance. For example, a person might not eat meat that much, or eggs, but then he starts exercising, and suddenly wants to eat eggs. Following nature he eats some eggs: voila, yin/yang balance.

Scotty, 3 days soak is best. If you get lazy, you can soak it in the fridge and change the water less often, but so far as the experiments go I think it doesn't come out quite as good.

seadog, Well said. It is about making others wiser, not making others feel better.

Brown rice that has been soaked for 1-3 days before eating it is SO GOOD! Best way to do it is to soak it at room temp on a counter, and switch the water everyday (or else it goes bad!) After three days the rice will have a a floral kind of smell to it. When you cook it you should only need about 1.5 cups water for each cup of rice, and it will have a sort of doughy smell. And when you eat it it is very satisfying. More so than unsoaked rice. It should also be much easier on your digestion (regular brown rice can be tougher). All the Best, 11:33

Food for thought: How do you judge morality when it gets into the gray areas? Suggestion: To me you have to act from the heart, then you can decide if you were truly being moral. Sometimes the act itself just can't be fully judged, but the purity of intent behind it can.

Hi Innerspace_Cadet, It is my opinion that if you have clear goals then the next step is to search for people who 1) have achieved those goals, and 2) are confident in their ability to transmit or show you the way to experiencing them for yourself. 3) are willing to All the Best, 11:33

Hi Fellow Tao Bums, Who are the recognized living enlightened masters?
-
Hello everyone, I want to share an experience I had a couple months ago in and after wuji stance standing meditation practice at the end of my cih-kung session. I have recently been experiencing really clear and thoughtless standing zen mediation, and in this particular practice session I had a revelation occur to me. When I was thoughtless in meditation, I 'saw' that the idea that common humans think of as *I*, or *you*, are not accurate descriptions of life. I saw that what I normally think of as Me (or any *I*, actually) is not a unique and separate entity. What I saw was a being who couldn't exist without infinite factors from outside me. And that he wouldn't even exist as he knows himself to be without all of these factors. I saw that in fact, that which is outside of my body (all of Earth - all nations - all everything - all space, planets, galaxies, etc) is actually intimately married to him. And I 'saw' that somehow the idea of *I* is a misperception, or a inaccurate way of seeing myself. I saw that I could not be, without the world. And that the world could not be as it is without me. So in a sense I saw the world like a very large creature, and what I think of as *Me* is like a appendage of that creature. I 'saw' a very real intertwining with all of reality, and I saw that nothing I do doesn't effect everything. And that there is nothing I can do that ever will not effect everything. I came away from that experience with the words, "Harm to One is Harm to All" very strongly resounding inside my mind-heart, as a reminder. I have in the past been a very, very individuality-centric person. I won't say I've been a selfish jerk, but I have valued the idea of individuality a LOT. And to me that very idea of individuality is based in the assumption that we are separate entities, that are not effecting the world around us. And that all comes down to our definitions (or assumed definitions) of the words "I" and "you", and related words based on the concepts that exists as natural, inherent offshoots of these two base concepts. In that meditation, I 'saw' that the above bolded line simply isn't true. Quite the contrary; I saw that nothing I do isn't effecting everything. But I 'saw' that most people trained from birth in the concepts of *I* and *you* are existing within certain assumptions about who we are that aren't accurate. I saw that these assumptions are causing humanity many many of its problems, as it assumes separation. It has been a very meaningful revelation for me. I will carry the words, "Harm to One is Harm to All" with me where ever I go now. What do you think, and why do you think it?

Kathy, Wow, what a great opportunity, which I have no idea how I could manage to attend Is something like this going to be offered again at some point, maybe even in New York City or Boston? I can always hope, right? -
Maybe I shouldn't have used the phrase "advanced practitioner"... It's trickier than that. And people go through phases. Basically... If you want to know how you're doing ask your teacher.

The illusion of separation is just garbage though. I'll take a potential double-edge sword over garbage

Interesting. So are you saying that most of the enlightened masters you've read about didn't come from spiritual lineages? They just meditated for years on their own? That seems counterintuitive, but hey so was physics, so I'll accept it if it is true.
