Meditation and Suggestibility- Placebo or Real Occurrences?
Bum Grasshopper replied to Aaron's topic in General Discussion
Some types of hypnosis are done in awakened states also. Those with analytical minds are hypnotized not by putting them in a trance, but by overloading their conscious mind so that the therapist can get past and communicate with the subconscious. Hypnosis is all about communicating with the subconscious mind. -
Meditation and Suggestibility- Placebo or Real Occurrences?
Bum Grasshopper replied to Aaron's topic in General Discussion
Some forms of meditation can also be called self- hypnosis for sure. Take a look at guided meditation scripts and hypnosis scripts. Some are almost idenical. But I do belive that other forms of meditation, such as emptness meditation, does not entirely fit into the definition of hypnosis. Hypnosis usually has a specific purpose, such as changinga habit. I can tell everyone that I am seeing a hypnotherapast, and nobody will bat an eylash. If I thell them I am going to a Swami to learn meditation, everyone thinks I'm weird. It's all a matter of perception. -

Calling all crystal/gemstone experts!

Looks like a conglomerate where they set pebbles in resin, then polish. Take a hot rod such as a soldering iron and touch it to an inconspicuous spot and see if it melts in spots. -

Carnelian - Mohs Hardness: 6.5 - Treatment: usually heat treated - Color: Light to dark reddish brown/orange (See also Chalcedony) Carnelian is also called cornelian. This translucent, reddish orange variety of chalcedony was once thought to still the blood and calm the temper. Its various shades of red are due to the presence of iron oxide. Stones may be uniformly colored or faintly banded. The best carnelian is from India, where it is placed in the sun to change brown tints to red. Although most carnelian on the market is stained chalcedony from Brazil or Uruguay. Carnelian relieves sexual tension by redirecting the energy stored in the reproductive center of the body; it may also be used to excite sluggish sexual energy. Unresolved feelings of anger, hostility, and hatred may be harmonized when carnelian is worn at the heart center, as this stone instills powerful sensations of well-being. Healing PROPERTIES: Brings good luck, happiness, success, prosperity. Positive influence on mental plane. Increases awareness, improves memory. Cleanses aura. Attracts the Great Masters. Helps settle disputes. Enhances accomplishments. Provides faith. Energizes the blood. Protects against illness. Beneficial for tissue regeneration, infections, and inflammations If you can't scratch it with an opal, but you can with quartz, it;s probably what you've got If you can't scratch it with quartz, get it appraised! -
There is a fine line between pleasure and pain. I just watched a show where a woman is constantly on the verge of orgasm, and can have one at any time. She thinks it as a curse, losing all feelings of intimacy and pleasure with the experience, and considers it torture. If eating chocolate is pleasurable to you, see how you like it if all you can eat is chocolate for a week. Pain is the brains signal that something is wrong and needs attention. This is not to be confused with discomfort, which is a fact of life. The more you desensitize yourself to discomfort, the happier you will be.

I just ordered an oriental alto bamboo flute! I have read that playing one has deep roots in taoism and can help with meditation. Anybody have any resources on this?

How many tai chi players does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

Took a minute, but I got it -
Thank you for that. I don't know why any post that has anything to do with Kunlun turns into a Max bashing thread. This dead horse is hamburger already If you surf through the bashing, someone posted that this practice is only taught in person by Max or one of his facilitators. My question is can this be taught via Skype?

Did Jesus Really Die on the Cross?

And if they hanged Jesus, Catholics would have to grasp their throats and stick their tongue out instead of making the sign of the cross- 46 replies

All the Feng Shui experts predicted doom when I moved into a house located behind a graveyard, and sternly advised not to move in. It's been 2 years now, and it's been the happiest, most prosperous 2 years of my life.

Isochronic tones are steady tones that are turned on and off rapidly. They can be modulated to produce different waveforms such as square, sine or triangle. They do not require headphones, but headphones can be used. If headphone are used, it is possible to entrain each brain hemisphere to different frequencies, resulting in some interesting brain harmonics. You can also use tone frequencies in the gamma range, and beats in another such as theta, entraining the mind in both states. Isochronic tones produce the strongest cortical response behind photic stimulation. Photic stimulation is accomplished with LED light frames powered by a decoder. I like the units sold here MindPlace You can use either technology together, or by themselves. After using entrainment for a time, you will find your dreams to be more vivid, and you remember then more. The more experienced you become, the more control you gain. Lucid dreaming is best learned by walking the tightrope between sleep and consciousness, which is in the theta range. I find the light stimulation at high intensity keeps me awake. As I said though, just doing any entrainment, after a while, you will have more awareness of your dreams. I like the software from Transparent Corp They offer free 2 week trials, plus have a plethora of info on their site.

Agreed. I like his approach. He used to have a free e book, but it looks like it is corrupted now. Lucid dreaming is a side effect of just about all brainwave entrainment protocols. Binaural beats are pretty much obsolete. Isochronic tones and photic stimulation are much more effective in altering conscious states.

I always thought Chinese red was the best, followed by Korean, then American. Siberian is not really ginseng at all. Now I find that American is prized in the orient for it's yin nature. Chinese red has the best flavor in my opinion. Any thoughts?

Mosquitoes are a wonderful example of the Tao. What better to bring down the advancement (destruction, you pick)of the arrogance of humans. Mosquitoes pose a much greater threat upon my life than an attacker, yet I don't think about it that that much. We can move to a "safe" part of the world, only to be killed by a lowly mosquito. Remember the Panama canal? Vietnam War? If mosquitos are threatening my health or my families health, I will use anything in my power to escape the threat. After that, I will use what I have learned and avoid a similar threat. If we kill all the mosquitos, how many birds, fish and bats would die? Most folks I know will kill a spider on site, but I know a single spider can eat a hundred mosquitoes, and after they move on, their webs will kill hundreds more. They need no master to teach them to build a web. It is the mosquito's nature to drink our blood. It is the spider's nature to trap them and eat them. Be friends with the spider. They have saved more lives than doctors.

Can anyone recommend a good Classical Yang Style DVD? Thanks in advance BG
-
Yes it does. I have ordered Master Yang, Jwing-Ming's Classical Tai Chi. Thank you very much. BG
-
The search function does not do a very good job using keywords tai chi dvd or such. If it is not too much trouble, just a title or two so I won't be wasting my money. Thanks in advance BG

I'm thinking of combining aromatherapy with my practice. There is no doubt about how a smell can effect your state of mind. Trouble is the amount of sites out there making making wild claims just to get a buck. Anyway, does anyone have any experience with this and can make some recommendations so I don't waste my time and money? I really want to give this a serious shot. Reputable websites? Best equipment/ products? And what should I stay away from?
