Why is it that the great masters choose to live and cultivate in caves? Are caves living and breathing natural manifestations mirroring our own internal physiology? They are also the preferred storage places of Daoist cannons and text. Could they be the the telephone booth of the celestial and earthly? I have always been fascinated and drawn to caves. When in one, I can't help but to feel spiritual. After reading the above passage, I now realize that I was standing in the belly of a great creature, one that stands the test of time. Thoughts?

O.K. You have just met someone who is interested in you. The conversation comes around to religion/ spiritual beliefs. You state that you are a Taoist. You see a puzzled look and maybe an eye roll on that person's face as they back away from you. How do you explain Taoism without: a. Not totally alienating them with esoteric terms b. Not making it sound like some new- age hokey pokey cult c. Going off on a long lecture of Taoist practices, ideals and philosophies I have attempted this on several occasions, but usually end up violating one of the above. Just wondering how you all approach the question.

How do you explain Taoism ?
Bum Grasshopper replied to Bum Grasshopper's topic in General Discussion
Would this not make you look dumb to a non- taoist? "I am a Taoist" "What is a Taoist" "I don't know" Precisely. Surely everyone has encountered this. There are some that sincerely want to know what your beliefs are. How do you explain it wothout creeping them out? Showing someone how I can suck my orgasms up my spine and circulate the energy might be a little too much on the first encounter -

Brainwave entrainment for migraines
Bum Grasshopper replied to markern's topic in General Discussion
I agree with this. Kunlun increases gamma brainwaves, pain relief is accomplished by increasing delta and sub delta frequencies. I have helped at least one person with their migraines using BWE. She has gone from getting headaches almost daily to rarely getting them at all. Delta frequencies from 1.5 to .5 has been proven to calm the limbic system of the brain which has helped those who suffer from migraines, fibromyalgia and other forms of chronic pain. I would suggest downloading the free trial version of NP2 at Transparent Corp and have her use the delta or pain relief sessions and see if it helps. The trial period is 2 weeks. She should see some improvement by then, although it may take longer to see long time relief. Massaging the head and temples with the palms of her hand and stimulating acupressure points may help too. -

You might recognize this guy Les Stroud from the Survivorman series on Discovery. This was taken before the series. He did it on his own accord. It looks like a wonderful way to connect with the Tao, but I don't know if I could do it.

I have this one Wild Divine Project. It's a lot of fun and is a great aid in meditation.

Bum Grasshopper replied to enouch's topic in General Discussion
I took resveritrol for a month. I did see an improvement in aerobic activity and felt more energetic only after 2 weeks. Too bad I can't afford the stuff right now. -
Try the marble method. It is simple and direct as the coin method, but has the same mathematical odds as the yarrow stalk method. You will need 16 marbles or some other token that can be divided up in 4 colors. One of 1 color, 3 of another, 5 of the third color and 7 of the last color. It matters not what colors you use. The first marble (one color) represents a yin line changing into a yang line. The second marble (3 colors)represents a yang line changing into a yin line. The third marble (5 colors) represents stable yang lines. the fourth marble (7 colors) represents stable yin lines. Place all marbles in a bowl. Shake the bowl to mix well, and without looking, pick a marble. Make note of the color and record the resulting line. Return the marble to the bowl and repeat 5 more time to assemble your hexagram.

Which Qigong practice is your favorite?
Bum Grasshopper replied to secularfuture's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much health chi kung because that is all that is available (instruction) where I live. There are some tai chi classes, but they are the Taoist tai chi form that plays down the martial aspects in lieu of the health benefits. I do practice kunlun from the book though. That would probably would fit between health and spiritual chi kung. -

Your wish is my command. A pterodactyl is found frozen at the south pole. It is thawed and comes back to life. It is famished by being frozen for so long, so it eats you and shits you out over Mount Everest. I wish I can control the weather.

I use Neuro- Programmer 2 a program that can be found here: Transparent Corp. This software enables you to create your own BWE tracks as well as hundreds of pre-made sessions. Holosync is a delta program that reduces the carrier tone as you progress. A good replicate can be found in the user's website called Deeper Than a Zen Monk, at a fraction of Centerpoit's price. By using BWE, I can create a program for specific situations such as visualizations, chi kung, sleep induction, learning, inspiration or spiritual development. If a session gets boring, I can change the background sound or ambiance to brighten it up. I find it kind of fun creating sessions and tweaking them to fit my needs. Lately I have been experimenting with gamma entrainment with some interesting results. Transparent offers a free 15 day trial on both NP2 and Mind Workstation. Anybody that is interested in BWE should take a look at these programs before spending money on finite, static CD's.

I wish Obama would grow a set of gonads like this guy. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd - Australia Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.. Separately, Rudd angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. ' 'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom' 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!' 'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.' 'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.' 'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.' 'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Brainwave Entrainment. This uses audio/ visual stimulus to entrain the brain to a specific frequency such as 7.83hz, the frequency of the earth's magnetic field, or gamma. It can take you deeper into meditation quite effortlessly. Good products can be found here. Transparent Corp Neuro-Programmer and Mind Workstation both have free 15 day downloads.

Being unemployed and no set schedule, my sleep pattern has evolved to mostly nocturnal. This happened gradually, from getting to sleep around midnight and getting up at 6:30 to sleeping from 5:00am to 12:00pm. Even if I get to sleep early, when I wake early I feel sleepy and sluggish. If I go to bed early, I will toss and turn, or read a book until 5:00am. I drink little caffeine, maybe a cup of tea when I get up. I have tried eliminating T.V. and computer use at night. I just don't feel sleepy when the sun goes down and I am not my best in the am no matter how much sleep I get. At the moment this cycle causes no problems, so I just resigned to it. I know that it is unnatural, but it seems to work for me.

Can someone describe the procedure? When I do it , I get an overabundance of 7's. The method I was using counts out the sticks in the traditional fashion, but you get the result by counting the piles of 4 in front of you, which should be 6,7,8 or 9. The methods I have researched such as this counts the sticks remaining after counting the piles of 4. Are they both correct?

Sorry, I am just beginning my adventure into the I- Ching. I find Stephen Karcher's interpretation most understandable. He peels away the Confucianism to reveal the tao. He also addresses the difficulty of translation by writing symbolically instead of linearly.

1. Alcohol is a product of civilization. The first crops ever cultivated was believed to be by the Sumarians. It was barley to make beer. Egyptians held beer in high regard calling it the "nectar of the gods". Many recipes have been found on pyramid walls as well as remnants of dried beer left for afterlife consumption. In the middle ages, if you drank alcohol, you lived. If you drank water, you died. 2. When yeasts (yeasts are not a bacteria, but rather unique organisms that display both plant and animal characteristics) consume sugar, the byproducts are alcohol and carbon dioxide. If bacteria are allowed, they consume the alcohol and turn it into vinegar. Alcohol and vinegar are both preservatives. This is a natural process called fermentation. It not only gives us beer and wine, but also pickles, sauerkraut, miso, fish sauce as well as a myriad of other foods that are protected from harmful pathogens. If beer or wine is distilled, the alcohol evaporates first, giving us ethanol, a solvent used in many tinctures and medicines. Also used for fuel. 3. Every culture has had an intoxicating drug of choice. The eastern culture, before getting westernized, were big into opium. Native Americans used psychoactive mushrooms, cannabis and tobacco. We also seem to demonize any drug other than the drug of choice. My take is that fermentation is a gift of the tao. It should be used wisely.

What is the BIGGEST challenge for Modern Western Taoists?
Bum Grasshopper replied to Stigweard's topic in General Discussion
I would translate that to: Balancing Western lifestyle with spiritual/philosophical studies -
And another method!!
