Hi all- Sean- I can perceive a noticable change in our society from how it was a few decades ago. So yes I can say that compared to how people were before in our society there is far less caring for our fellow beings than there was in the past. This is not new phenomina. And it is not a projection from within myself. There has been a long history of human kind becoming more and more anti-social in practice and acceptable behaviors. These changes have taken a marked leap away from the caring of or for our neighbors in - (for an easy example of popular TV shows)... The TV show Lassie of the late 50's early 60's always had a moral to illustrate how we need to live together. Most TV shows did. Today it is in marked contrast to any popular show. Common decency has taken a back-seat to self-interest. From Gangsta rap to wars of pure cynicism and greed, we are a failing society. I believe much of the problem stems from living with our minds on our insides and not our outsides as it were. We live in this society as if the universe revolves around each of us seperately. And the changes from truly ancient times is even more stagering. The issue of this thread is virue. In tribal cultures almost every activity was proscribed so to benifit the tribal union and nullify the individual. Ancient China, as most agrarian societies were, was extremely well rooted in an extended family cohesion, where the individual had little meaning. For Socrates there was no virtue other than that of being a good citizen. Plato and Aristotle followed suit in this. Almost all morality is related to how we treat each other and has little to do with how we perceive each-other. Virtue is about being and doing unto others. The wickedest sob in the world has a self-image that is palatable to themselves; at least enough so that self-loathing doesn't drive them to suicide. I heard someone say today that even being a murdering and loathsome bastard, Sadam Hussain had the most personal integrity of any major figure involved in the Iraqi conflict. I am not sure that is so, but the perception of this says volumes about how the other characters are perceived by some. And I don't think that guy was projecting anything other than his distain for our own leadership, not his internalized life. If Sadam was just being Sadam and George is just being George than all is forgiven because they are just being themselves? I don't think that all is usually forgiven so readily by those who suffer at the hands of others. Particularly those in power. That is why many people around the world are justly appalled at America allowing a man with such obvious short-comings of character and ability to lead us and the rest of the "free world"... Is the worlds' perception of America a projection or an observation?

Yo Sean, My perceptions do not create my reality. They interpret my reality. I can differentiate between what I take in and my cognition of these various elements. And my equating his ideas with any other thought process that seperates one being from the other beings they inter-act with, as the given state of inter-action is just a matter of degree. We are not so much seperate beings as he implies. Where is the Namaste recognition? The whole working on the self to get others to change seems apt in very few situations. It gives us yet another way to seperate ourselves from each-other rather than bringing us together in open trusting discourse. Today's society is very different than when I was growing up. Kids are not out playing. They are most likely in front of a computer screen. There is little trust of any stranger. Even marriages now have pre-nups as a rule rather than the exception. If the woman I live with is a slob I talk to her about it. I don't internalize the issue in hopes of communicating my druthers of her behaviors. I am not scared of confronting or expressing any emotion to those I am in contact with. The fear of living as an emotional being that shares one's inner life with those around them seems inherent in Pavlina's thinking. It is palpable to me, yet it is also the norm in our society. You may have no references from 40-50 years ago to relate to. So you use Pavlina's methods to project your perception of me as an old school hippy as if that were a reality. You are buying into something that is not real. It is a cop-out -to use an old hippy term... It uses its own premise to prove its point. The being that is ME does not filter the reality of the beings around me as if I have no clue as to their nature save through my perceptions. For instance I also have to have some understanding of circumstance to form an opinion of behaviors. Why did she hurry away? Was my breath stinky? Did she just remember an appointment? Did she have to pee? Looking outside of ourselves will give us as many answers as to our fellow beings' ways of being themselves as looking inward at our interpretations. Interaction is sloppy and often hurtful. We can learn to deal with it and share it, not as a projection of self but as an interactive dance.

We better get crackin' on this ... The Mayan calandar ends December 24th 2012, (the end of the world). Oddly enough my passport runs out Dec. 23rd 2012. I'll have one day to be a man without a country that recognizes me as an Earthling and then poof...

Sean-thanks for the link. I mostly disagree with Pavlina. The way we treat each-other has far more to do with our relationships than what we think in the abstract of each-other. The only place that his ideas work is in cyberspace where our relationships are so very ephimeral. (My internalized sense of what someone is thinking about me only used to have any impact when I was smoking too much ganga some twenty years ago). I think it very odd to have relationships that exist mostly in one's head as it were. I do not intellectualize about how I feel. I feel. I express how I feel and share a real life with those I inter-act with. It is not a purely mental construct. We have gotten so far away from any true shared society that what we imagine about others has become our relationships to them?! Not me bro. My point about people not caring is proved by his take on this. IF_ Inter-relationships become some sort of an abstracted series of linked phenomina, projected from the self. Then I see a fearful lack of us having any shared humanity to speak of NO! We live as real people who interpret each-other's feelings face to face and get and share feelings with each-other. These are not mental projections. I do not project my inner self outward onto those who I have contact with, any more than I absorb their beings into my realm of consciousness through my senses. Both take place but I do not isolate myself from others in my own little world of being to interpret their reactions to me. My point stands. People just do not have time for others as was once the norm in tribal conditions and every society up to our current one. 30 years ago one could leave their home and/or car unlocked in most small towns across America. No more. We are isolating ourselves and hardening our hearts to each-other. Pavlina's perspective of the projected self is as much a part of this problem as fear-mongering and Arab-bashing. It assumes the self is seperate and not already connected in spiritual and cosmic oneness to the other in empathy and compassion. If empathy and compassion are added to his equation it falls to pieces. Namaste-Pat

Ok so I threw the coins for a quick Yi Jing take on these matters. I received: 49- KO or Revolution (molting)... with only the third line changing (into) 17- SUI or Following. The gist being that there are acceptable changes here and they are naturally a progression through time and history. And that we should talk it over a few times in order to gain understanding. the advice is to remain firm in one's convictions as we meet the new influences takig what is of deeper value and forgoing the superficial. My interpretation in my book The Wayfarer Sonnets for the third line is - 49- Old ways linger on If gauging change's limits Talk it over agin 17- Be true to yourself Keep good ideals growing up lose youth, gain insight So I guess this means that it is the synthisis that has more value than the seperate parts would have alone. That these philisophical entities each & all stem from the deepest essence of the Tao would seem to be what I want to hang onto, not so much the seperations. Again I have a different hat to wear here than in the wider world. There I need to define the differences between Taoism and Buddhism to add to people's understanding. Here at the Taobums I find myself trying to form a "ghestaldt" (sp) of the several sects we address here to reach a deeper understanding still...

Spy- I think historical accuracy is an important element of this discussion. Taoism was thousands of years old by the time Buddha walked the earth. It stems from pre-historic times as noted earlyer in this thread. The roots of the Yi Jing are as anscient as any ideas we know of on this planet. There is absolutly no influence of Buddhism in the Yi Jing. The Yi Jing is primaraly a book about how to live morally. The misconception that it is a book of devination first and foremost is not correct in my view. It is a book that hopes to illustrate the best ways to behave under various conditions and cercumstances. That it can relate to your particular situation and respond is a great mystery, and freaks many people no end. But it does happen. Consult the Yi Jing about this issue I shall also and see what we get...I'll be back-Namaste-Pat Confucius certainly influenced Taoism and he was almost contemperanious to Buddha. I agree with Mandrake in part - that Buddhists and Taoists are not the same. There are some shared concepts and practices, most had to stem from the Taoist tradition as it is so much older, tho in some cases the ideas and practices may have developed on their own, I do not think that is the case. We can read the history of these trends. We do not have to guess about it.

Friends, The forces of corporate greed that we are up-against are well funded. They also have paid for strong political backing. We are a grass-roots organization that needs the help of kind-hearted people like you, just to survive. . TRAIN has been an active force for the advocacy of Tenant's Rights over the past four years. We were an instrumental force in having tenants recognized as property-tax payers in New Jersey. Before this happened we paid the taxes but were not granted the privileges accorded to tax payers, like rebates. At one time we had 185 members, but most have moved away and we are down to a handful. We have a chance now to get the funding we need to build our membership levels back up to where we have greater impact on our elected officials. Most of our new neighbors are Asian, and need to learn their rights. We need to go door-to-door to over 6,000 tenants in Plainsboro alone. We ask you now to vote for our project at Give Meaning. Please click the link below and vote YES for our project. If you click on my name at the top - (Patrick D. Goldsmith) you will be able to read some of our news. The budget is up as well. Both Give Meaning and I want to be sure the Project is viable, so I'm asking you to "vote" on whether you feel my proposal is worthwhile. When you vote, you're NOT making a financial commitment of any kind; you're simply indicating that you think it's a good idea and should go ahead. Voting takes less than a minute, and it's easy - so please VOTE NOW, by clicking here http://www.givemeaning.com/donate/p-project.aspx?gg=800 to review the project profile (and then just click on the Vote icon to cast your vote). Give Meaning will then send you an email with another link and on that page a request to confirm your vote. Please reply to confirm, many have not done this step and thus did not have their vote counted! PLEASE FORWARD THIS PAGE TO YOUR EMAIL LISTED FRIENDS, WE ARE RUNNING SHORT OF TIME! WE ONLY HAVE A FEW DAYS LEFT TO GET THIS COMPLETED. Thank you for showing your support in this way - with enough votes; I'll be able to work towards making this idea a reality. Patrick D. Goldsmith, President of TRAIN If the needed votes are not received for this project, we may have to let TRAIN die-off. Without the funding we seek now to be able to rebuild our membership, it is just too hard and expensive to keep going.

I recently started to read H L Menkin's Tretise on right and wrong There is an interesting few paragraphs from Darwin on social intincts, which are found in many species. A quick over-view- IMPULSE TO POSITIVE BENEVOLENCE & NEGATIVE RESTRAINT: The Basic componants - 1) Intelligence-weighing options to gain durable satisfaction from one's efforts 2) Language- Creates a common value system allowing good/bad opinions to form 3) Habit I think of this as the Habit of Civilisation that Will Durant writes of as well These add up to a Phenomina of Morality. They can be attributed to "lower" species as well as our own... All this, plus Reverance or Fear of Gods and Spirits. For those issues we seek theologians to penitrate the impenitratable. So many do good things to support their position and security in their environment, it need not only be altruistic.

This subject came up on another thread. Some people try to stay aware of their hands, some take note of and touch doorways as a waking/dreaming practice to stay aware. Some concentrate as they fall asleep. All in an attempt to remain in a conscious state, to some degree, while asleep. Are there any other techniques reasons for practicing and/or input on this ?

I think of my work for tenant's rights as an on-going series of acts of continuing vertue. I find most people just do not care about doing good things for other people. Even here at this wonderful site, I've gotten very few votes on my Give Meaning site that I posted three weeks ago. There is just very little generosity of spirit when it takes an effort. And that to me is what amounts to virtue, putting other's efforts and needs on a par with your own.- Working for a better world not just a better life for yourself. Namaste-

I'm glad these ideas came back up on the board. One thing I notice is that there is little speculation that the original Buddha chose some of his ideas from the pre-existing Taoism as well as the Hinduism of his own more localized back-ground. His years of study probably encluded exposure to Taoist ideas. And his ideas seemed to have been a strong element in JC's teachings. I still see the continuum in these things. As in art and most cultural manifestations of the human spirit's urge for creativity, the new springs from the old and references older ways to reapply them into the modern world... I just do not believe in any purest approach to any doctrine, there is a circular aspect as well as a linear aspect to how our cultural references get communicated. The strongest point I make in the Zen/Tao issue is that for Buddhism to get through China and then into Japan, the Chinese are very likely to have left a deep impression in the flow...The Chinese have always absorbed the new into the old. Confucius changed how Taoism was understood as much as Taoism changed how Buddhism was understood over the many millenia of changes in the cultural proclivities of the court and the masses-which in themselves differed much of the time...So it just seems obvious that any and all of these permutations took place at some point in space/time...What has become of them we will always choose to investigate and contemplate and speculate on. But as a Taoist I just see them changes working their magic and allowing everything to be happening somewhere at sometime...Everything to its season and environment. Thanks for the links I shall check 'em out ASAP.- Namaste--PS- What happened to Cloud Recluse?

Materialism is everywhere. It is the way of the world. Most people plan their lives around making money, and seekers of other ways to live are not getting very far with any change of that plan. China is the best example of capitalism's attractions. I am a capitalist also. I charge on a sliding scale to do work for others. From free, to help protect and inforce tenant's rights in New Jersey, up to $150. 00 per hour to represent artists in their various issues with clients. Most I charge much less to help. Some of the charges mentioned here, seem pretty high for anyone living in China, and I am sure there are much less expensive teachers of equal or greater stature who have no western representatives as go-betweens. Materialism is off-putting to many who wish to transcend the grip of ego and whatever Kharmic ties that bind. It seems to run counter to the realization of many concepts some of us seek to make our own. I for one suspect those who are overtly materialistic in their dealings, no matter what they are trying to sell me. Likewise, greedy attitudes seem to show a lack of inner character and surity of spirit that I would not want in any teacher, no matter what the subject of training. -
The whole "right view" "right thought" right whatever bothers me no end. There is no difference in content to that phrase than in any Islamic, Christian, or Politically Correct mind-control efforts out there. Much less of the true fascists who wish to lead us in the direction of hate and fear mongering... For me it is the open-minded aspects of view and thought that inspire me to greater levels of awareness...Breaking through the paradoxes of correctness and incorrectness to seek the over-view, the unity the Taoist One and All of cosmic spiritual whatever we wish to call the transcendent nature of getting beyond the notions of correctness...I don't mean to be Ginsbergian with this language - as he was a very Buddhistic pointer in his own rightious beatitude... But I'm afread that we reach need to find our own way no matter where we start from and what we may glean along the way, our selves reconfigure any rightness to suit our selves anyway!!! Until such time as our consciousness can transcend the bonds of self and become an aware part of the One and All... Now I shall try to sleep.

I am glad this came up here. I attended several meetings in the late 60's & early 70's as part of the peace movement, (the one that was meant to change the world for the better). We stood up and said there was an alternative to just going along with the war in Viet Nam. We instilled a sense that being patriotic and loving one's country need not enclude blind following of any given administration's choices. The great irony of those days was that Pres. Dick Nixon was raised a Quaker in California. I was too much of a hot-blooded teen ager to accept the Pure Notion of Peace as a viable counter-weight to the brutality of the pro-war faction. Many of us held the Quakers in great esteme but felt it was up to us to protect them from the reality of politics in America, then as now. The Quakers had no room for any retaliation or self-defence. Any violence was just plain wrong. I thought that they were correct in their thinkng but naive to believe that they could live in as violent a nation as the USA and remain unscathed. Some managed to do so, others had their heads stoved-in and ribs cracked and answered with a whimpered "PEACE". All the blessings of the real Buddha and Christ were with them and they suffered for it grieviously. The stoic unadorned simplicity of Quaker thinking is a real jolt to many. Be good be gentle love thy neighbor as thyself. Don't be a show-off just be a good sort of person and ask for nothing in return... The basics. But they really keep to them, sweet and simple unadorned spread the love. It is a faith of deepest commitment and honor. I always wished I could be so damned good as to be a Quaker.

I should have remembered these mighty critters earlier for this thread... http://www.tardigrades.com/ They have to be the most super-naturaly endowed race of beings on planet... -
I was just amusing myself thinking how the Tardigrade entries may belong on the supernatural powers thread...Maybe the great masters reincarnate as tardigrades. so they can remain humble in their prowess! Thank you Ian for the link-I think I shall pop it over to the super-natural thread just for a laugh!- In any case those little critters have a great life style if they find a mossy bivuac. They lack for nothing with a drop of water and some moss, and when they get nothing they just desicate and "meditate" for ten years!

Todd, Our aha! , or seeing truth or enlightenment that we seem to bat-around here like a tennis-ball can be lofted and served up... If it aces the recipiant than it is not received logic or truth. If it is returned then the shared baubble of intent/words can then be measured and returned etc... But our egos are the players for the most part. It seems to me that if we use the word "ego" then we are also accepting the super-ego and id notions of the devided self...I tend to re-catagorize these into the levels of Dharma, Artha, and Kharma to get a wider scope of activity involved in the over-view... In any case I agree that our egos do filter and interpret almost all that happens to us. This, no matter at what level of being/consciouness the info enters our battery of sensory/idea collectors... Most here are at least becoming aware of ourselves to some degree and try to become even clearer and purer beings through some effort and intent. By leading our lives in the spiritualy based aspects of being, our energies seem to be directed towards truth and understanding of what truths we may find. I hope that there is no end to growth for any being encluding those of great attainments. To stop growing is a death on any level... These words may be as empty as any ever written. Still it seems like a pretty good idea to bat these things around with eachother...

I am sorry to say that I could not find the time to attend...I need to phone and say sorry/hi to AiWai- I appologize now... SD-should we send ya some Depends? Keeping EVERYTHING in yr pants can be trying! We may get sillier yet! But in all semi-seriousness those sexy woman may test our abilities to maintain our qi and or mojo with so little effort I think that is a pretty super-power in itself...As every male who is hetero, (and femaale who isn't)- can testify to it...But what would the scientific proof need to be? If they can withstand extreme cold, and distract jing/qi retainers from their intentions and attentions what else can be achieved? Stay warm out there ! Namaste-PDG -

Many of these programs have played on her daily Farther Down the Rabbit Hole series. These deal with the sexual abuse/blessing bestowed/demanded by the guru/political leader. Also in the series are important videos on our health care clinical trial industry. The good news she says is you're not as sick as you were told, the bad news is now you have to navigate around possibly well meaning but not useful (and even lethal) health/spiritual care givers. This information runs from sexy to critical for survival. Farther Down the Rabbit Hole featured a special week dedicated to Bhagavan Das, the American Yogi who introduced Ram Das to his Guru. " What took me to India was the bullet that went through JFK's skull. The velocity of that bullet threw me across the Pacific ocean onto my spiritual quest because I knew that that was a conspiracy and I knew that America was full of ___!" Many years later on Sept. 11, 2001, he would be one of the eye-witnesses (never bothered to watch the TV) of the demolition of the World Trade Center. True to serious spiritual practice (that removes illusion) he was never fooled for a second. Fun interview FDRH Bhagavan Das interview Wrap-up of Bhagavan Das interview: "Does Religious Practice Decondition Us or Does it Recondition Us?" A juxtaposition of a short interview done in Union Square (Paula Gloria is there every Wednesday) with comments made by Bhagavan Das taking two opposite approaches to JFK's assassination illuminating the importance of spiritual practice. Michael Ellner on Health Care Corruption (pt1) and Michael Ellner on Health Care Corruption (pt2) The drug companies stack the deck against impartial clinical trials. Despite the Freedom of Information Act entitling citizens to the results NOT ONCE have the details (how the studies were set up, methods under which they were conducted etc) been released to the public. Huge implications to our daily health choices. Wrap-up After Michael Ellner Addressing her own father's bone cancer, Paula Gloria attempts to draw together politics and spirituality to provide the power needed to heal cancer and mass hypnosis. Clinical trial results that favor the pharmaceuticals put the general population at tremendous lethal risk. Knowing False Flag Terror mentality helps us understand health care terror. All terror ends with knowledge and clarity about simple facts. General Scobie and Chemotherapy "Side Effect" is a misnomer. Horrible deaths in today's health care are in truth the "Direct Effect" of drugs brought to market and taught in Universities to be prescribed all according to a pharmaceutical agenda that can buy a lot more politician than you or I. General Scobie was the man who was supposed to have protected Greece after WWII. Since Paula's father was born in Greece this show is an attempt to discover if false flag terrorism could create terror that numbs our ability to see through the illusion of sickness and into health. This work starts where family constellation work leaves off or cannot explain the results. Divine Weapons pt 1 and Divine Weapons pt 2 In the Mahabharata Arjuna, the great hero on the side of truth and justice is advised to acquire divine weapons through spiritual penance to Lord Shiva. This knowledge is relevant to today when the common person cannot get the protection from politicians beholden to pharmaceutical interest thus allowing so-called healing drugs onto the market and thus killing us. Where do we get the divine weapons we need today? The original program that was aired in 1999 as a Call-in Show with Frank Craven- Sex Slavery in the White house After seven years Paula Gloria and Frank Craven do another show. This one introduces a week (possibly two) of understanding pedophilia, getting beyond abuse and cultivating compassion. Paula Gloria's four year stint in India was motivated by a talk given at the Ramtha School of Enlightenment in 1999 where she heard an ex sex slave, Cathy O'Brien talk about her horrific life and the process of mind control over ALL the masses (through the TV, media and advertising that goes right into your own bedroom). She followed the promise of enlightenment and higher awareness to dispel it, the possibilitiy of masters, true masters to awaken those of us who care enough to look deeper. This topic allows us to send forth a sincere call to those masters qualified to help us. The sincerity of our hearts will determine the good from the bad and qualify us to understand these terrible crimes so we can stop the sacrifice of our children www.frankcraven.com January 24th on Manhattan Neighborhood Network channel 34 at 11:30 am Join a candle lit evening with Paula Gloria as she shares a great gift she found at Union Square. Looking for Proof of advanced taoist master's abilities

Jung was the MAN and helped Taoism gain some adherents in years past... He was not so hung-up as Freudians with the mamaries but he did have a lot to say about the collective subconscious that was very inlightening. Hey There Sean D,- That just didn't ring true as an analysis...Besides I am a leg-man and I had no nipples thing going on at all,,, Stay out of my fantasy world why dontcha!? Why is it that the abilities of women scare some men(and other women too) so much anyway? Once you've made love to a few beautiful women the mystique is gone but the attraction grows more accessable and the inner-self comes into focus. Some are exposed as vapid, most are pretty accessable and available for men who are not shaken-up by sex-appeal... Everyone just uses what they have been given and then many of us try developing new talents and tools to further ourselves... But power is sexy & sexy is powerful, we all are attracted at some level to sexy and that is real power! Some sexy/power seems pretty odd - I've known many musicians who had very beautiful girlfriends/wives/lovers just because they could play their axe...Thank God, but what is up with that power? Is it too super-natural? -
Thanks for the reminder Xeno- some times the tuff times aren't getting used as ways to become better at life... Namaste-Pat

I have always been grateful that I had an early mix of training... I started my training with Judo at 9 yo, wrestled and weight-trained as a fresh/soph in High-school, Then Started delving into meditation and learning Hatha Yoga as a junior in HS...I began Hung Gar in my early twenties. I have found the combination of disciplines to have been very useful in building basic core strength, keeping limber, and remaining mindful. The breath connection to all practice IS THE MOST IMPORTANT eliment for me. It keeps me focused no matter what I am working on. Meditation, yoga, Hung Gar each need to have the breath in synch with the mind/body... Now that I am thinking about this I realize that my harmonica playing (since I was 14)- has as much to do with uniting breath/body/mind/spirit as one in a conscious flow - as any meditative or martial training I have done ! So it may be my big secret is that bringing music into my heart and being creative with it, rounds out the whole mix...And it sure helps to keep me happy too... Let yourself be as complete a human as you find you have time for every day. Don't get in a rut.
