Alas, not articulate enough. I shall try harder next time, as room for unintended interpretations is inefficient. Granted, my second last sentence was imperfect in relaying my meaning. Striping yourself of everything you know would've been a better way to end it Arse, my friend, is arse. Pornography, however, is a human creation and a human pastime. All this experiment proves is that monkeys are swayed by the desires just as we humans are. I believe that this is where the miscommunication lies. I never stated that such a state of affairs is entirely the creation of society - a great part of the equation, yes. The part that society plays is that it perpetuates the existence of our desires. One can see it everywhere... From magazines with "Do men really prefer real boobs?" on the headlines, to art galleries. It is in our faces all the time. How can the majority know differently when it is all they see? Yeah, totally in agreement with you here. However, one thing I will say for monogamy is that it is a great practice for cultivation. Not so much in that you can have tantric sex with a partner, but in the sense that it's a great way to analyse one's ego and the falsehood of the senses. Never was, never will be Yes. It's a construct that operates within time, where past and future have bearance on existence. There simply wouldn't be an 'us' here to have this conversation, if our ancestors weren't turned on by each other. Porn is simply an expression of our attachment to form driven by our hormones. Controlling the mind leads to control over the body, and vice versa is possible too. Nature is the culprit, agreed. Yet society does play a very strong role in being nature's sidekick... Similar, perhaps, to the Buddhist concept that those born in the human realm have great opportunities for development. It is so that the desire for sex is one of the greatest obstacles in all major spiritual schools. I thank you for your words, and your thorough response - I simply wish that I hadn't been careless enough to allow for the misunderstanding that occured, to occur. Yours, in adoration, James

He's a pleasant chap with much cultivation experience and knowledge. Hell, he's just what we need in this forum - more variety. Getting rid of him would be indicative of intolerance and a lack of compassion. Do you fear that other individuals cannot think freely for themselves, make their own choices, and learn from their own mistakes? Do you want to lead everyone's lives for them? Yours, in ignorance, James

You know how certain shamanic traditions had dances to bring certain weather - e.g. the rain dance... Well, I read this and improvised a KAP dance Shnoogins, James -

You are by no means the first person to have thought along these lines, and nor shall you be the last. The problem with spiritual experiences is that they are inconceivable to those that have not yet experienced them. Throughout the majority of history one can see attempts to theorise such mystical experiences - astral travel, telepathy, auras... Generally speaking, each uses the latest and most new fangled ideas, which have yet to be fully understood by the professionals, let alone the masses, to bring their experience into something that is conceivable... something logical. People use what they know. Like you, I have a background in physics, mathematics, computing... and have come up with the same idea as well as other that are similar. The only verification the spiritual aspirant can have is to experience such things for themselves. However, this is where the tides are turning - science is all about experiential results. Scientists have to see to think something is possible, and then see it again and again until the odds are against any remaining stuck-in-the-muds. If the day comes where we can actually measure the existence of such energy, and there are no holes in the mathematical theory, then, my friend, I shall be right next to you with the biggest grins on our faces. Yes, the existence of modern theories is exciting, and the possibilities are there. But currently I shall focus my energy on cultivating my body, mind and spirit. Yours humbly, James

No need to apologise mate. Your reaction was entirely understandable. To use your words, exposing someone "for what they are" merely adds fuel to a perceived fire - for we cannot know for sure if this man, or any others, are indeed what one thinks they are. Assumptions get us nowhere. That aside, most people on this forum have their wits about them and are capable of making decisions for themselves, so what purpose would telling others have? They'll simply nod, if they agree, or shake their head if otherwise. I have spent enough time on this matter, and I am not one for repetition. I believe I summarised it best in the following post: http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?act=ST...ost&p=81934 Yours humbly, James

That was indeed quite clear I am by no means attempting to invalidate your words, as wisdom requires no previous experiences and can be applied universally. At the same time, that is also what didn't sit comfortably with me, rather than being universal wisdom, this was a lot more localised. There is a subtle difference between relating to beings in this time of human development, making them see the error of their whimsical ways, and giving direction, which is often misinterpreted as preaching. I know what it is you are trying to relate, yet there were hints of guidance which came off as slightly superior and dismissive of this stage of human development, particularly their material achievements. The focus is, was, and should remain, solely upon cultivation. Beings will see for themselves where they are going wrong if the right seeds are planted. Telling them so is what closes their minds to the Truth. Agreed. Simply seperations in time and space (location), yet the same mind. Words are simply a number of symbols arranged horizantally to relay internal meaning and experience. Mastery of communication comes from being able to converse with all walks of life and opening their minds, and hearts - or as you put it, plant the seeds for clarity in the future. One should be able to plant seeds in the mind of a toilet cleaner at an Irish pub as well as the president of the USA. Real wisdom lies, not only in being able to do this, but in being able to open the hearts and minds of all with the same few words. Yours, in admiration, James

Where did all this money come from to shore the banks up?
.broken. replied to MASTERforge's topic in General Discussion
The Gold Standard, where paper money and coins could be exchanged for their worth in gold, is no longer upheld by any government in the world. It's now the fiat currency that makes the world of economics go round. This means that money is essentially, by order of government, accepted as a means of payment - although its worth is entirely conceptual. At least when we had the Gold Standard money actually had precise material value, and now it is simply subject to the expected supply and demand of various industries. Essentially the entire economic system is based up expectation - or, if you will, hope and fear. Well said, and very true. My lack of understanding lies as to who the nation owes its debt to? From memory, a very vague one at that, I believe it's other countries and banks that a nation borrows money from. If this is the case, the history of who owes what and to whom must be exceedingly vast!! It simply means all nations have got each other by the balls. Strange. Yours humbly, James -

Complet seated and standing stretching Routine
.broken. replied to Spirit Ape's topic in General Discussion
An effective stretching system that works most of the major meridians - seated only, am afraid - is Makko Ho. A quick google should be able to find you the complete work out Yours humbly, James -
Yep. These certainly work. I was taught a method where you push yourself off the ground, clap your hands together and then, as you so poetically described it, descend in a relaxed freefall. I used to train every day in my school gym and ended up with a body like the famous statues of David... Nowt wrong with frequent training, in my opinion. Simply listen to you body. My Password Is Being Hacked And changed
.broken. replied to gossamer's topic in Forum and Tech Support
My own personal thinking would be that he has access to your email account. Try changing the password to that and see where it goes from there. Yours humbly, James -
Hagar, I have to applaud you on this observation. You are clearly someone with their eyes open and their ears to the ground. Hopefully, in time, more people will realise. Yours, with respect, James

Not compassionate? Wow, here he is trying to save the ones he can and you call that a lack of compassion. He isn't the one who judges who can and cannot be saved, it is those who read his writings that judge for themselves. If one doesn't see anything redeeming in Li Jiong's posts then they have decided for themselves that they are not worth saving for Li Jiong. He simply doesn't want to waste time and energy attempting to convert non-believers, so to speak (unlike Jehovah's Witnesses). Compassion requires understanding of another's situation. Situation in this sense includes cultural background, karmic conditioning and emotional state. I ask that you understand Li Jiong's situation, and investigate why you are responding with to something you perceive as intolerable. Yours humbly, James

Rest periods only apply to the muscles you are looking to build up. For example, say you do press-ups/push-ups to gain muscle mass, simply don't exercise your shoulders and triceps during your rest periods... During a rest period for one set of muscle groups you can work on other muscle groups. Diet plays a key role in how fast muscle mass is developed. Eat a good source of protein at least 1.5 hours before doing any intensive muscle building training. If you're into weight training, look at lifting/moving the heaviest weight you currently can and do as many repetitions as possible - if you can do more than 5 reps, increase the weight. Seeing as you're wanting to build up your arms, I would recommend pull-ups and push-ups. Doing these in different ways builds up different muscle groups. Variety is key to overall arm strength. Oh, and if you've got a spare bit of cash, a PowerBall wouldn't be a bad investment Yours humbly, James

Interesting thread. Haven't had time to read the book, but I'd thought I'd share my words with you... Pornography wouldn't be anywhere as near as large an industry as it currently is (seconded by drugs) if men were in charge of their sexual desires. Perceived gender roles play a great part in this equation. Women impose a need upon themselves to look a certain way to attract the insatiable sexual appetites of uncoath men and to beat the competition of other females. Men impose a need upon themselves to have intense sexual desires to compete with other men and to attract a woman that looks a certain way, again, to compete with other men. The error lies in the fact that these are all reactions to social contact and how we believe we should act in our culture and society. From this self created competition, humans have created whole industries, which in themselves are competitive. Fashion and pornography are remarkably interlinked in creating the imagined perfection we seek in partners and in ourselves. One only needs to look at the pin-ups from the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s to see how this imagined perfection changes. Competition never stands still. Sex being treated as taboo hardly helps attitudes toward pornography either. Sex is as normal as eating. Merely a bodily function which acts as a means to an end. Treating it as something distasteful or alien festers misunderstanding. From misunderstanding comes desire, in this case. Strip yourself of your culture, strip yourself of your society, strip yourself of your upbringing. Underneath are the truths as to who one really is. Yours, James

I chase those moments. I attach to them too heavily. Those feelings of bliss, undying love, compassion, safety, etc. that I have experienced in my meditations - and subsequently in life too - make my heart yearn for them. They make it harder to remain unattached. Detaching from the mundane is relatively easy in comparison. Yours, still clinging, James

I agree with rain's comment. Visualising roots on a daily basis will also be beneficial. Yours, James
