Questions regarding introduction to Taoist Meditation
lifeforce replied to Scottk's topic in Daoist Discussion
Surely, this should be one of the most important aspects when practicing qigong. -
I've come across some excellent articles and training advice recently. So the idea of this thread is to create one place where we could all post our resources. It would also make it much easier to find stuff instead of it being scattered and buried in our usual postings. BTW. My bias is with Xingyiquan, so you'll find the majority of my posts are that way inclined. Here's a cracking set of articles to start us off. http://chinesemartialstudies.com/2013/01/07/lives-of-the-chinese-martial-artists-4-sun-lutang-and-the-invention-of-the-traditional-chinese-martial-arts-part-i/ Enjoy !

Thanks Gerard. There's some fantastic stuff there.

It's a good site, but I'm not sure it's all we ever need. There are some ego-maniacs and know-it-all's on there just like any other forum. The majority is good stuff though.

Oh ! I wasn't aware of that. That's the kind of stuff we could do without. I'll Scratch that one out. Thanks for the heads up on it.

The Xingyi Manual Of Liu Dianchen: http://brennantranslation.wordpress.com/2012/09/29/the-xingyi-manual-of-liu-dianchen/

And if you actually say this to yourself every day, it becomes the best mantra for living a life full of purpose and wonder.

I don't have any first hand experience sorry, it's just the whole Shaolin thing nowadays really isn't. Nothing fraud about it, just not authentic Shaolin, but Shaolin re-packaged for 21st century westerners with large wallets. Shifu Yan Lei is good and his first qigong dvd and book is well put together. It focuses on 8 sections brocade. After that it all went pear-shaped I'm afraid. His follow up stuff has received some mixed reviews. With perculiar titles such as 'Qigong for Upper Body', and selling expensive Buddhist charms and jewelry, his site is just like the hawkers peddling their wares near the PRC approved Shaolin Temple. What a shame this proud cultural icon of Chinese martial and meditative culture has been reduced to this.
-
Be wary of the Shaolin brand. People are easily sucked in by the historical and cultural aspects of Shaolin and who would blame them ? The Shaolin temple was destroyed by the cultural revolution and the PRC. It's monks were forcibly disrobed and/or executed. What remains now is a tourist trap almost like a kung fu disneyland. Well actually, it's not even kung fu but gymnastic, acrobatic, performance style wushu which is a million light years away from the arts that were spawned from the original temple. If your looking for the Shaolin based martial arts you may be better off with a school practicing Choy Li Fut, Hung Gar, Southern Mantis, Wing Chun, Bak Mei etc etc. Paul Whitrod is in London. He is very very good.

I'd like to kick this off again if anyone's interested. January 1 Day 1 BEGINNING This is the moment of embarking. All auspicious signs are in place. In the beginning, all things are hopeful. We prepare ourselves to start anew. Though we may be intent on the magnificent journey ahead, all things are contained in this first moment: our optimism, our faith, our resolution, our innocence. In order to start, we must make a decision. This decision is a commitment to daily self-cultivation. We must make a strong connection to our inner selves. Outside matters are superfluous. Alone and naked, we negotiate all of life's travails. Therefore, we alone must make something of ourselves, transforming ourselves into the instruments for experiencing the deepest spiritual essence of life. Once we make our decision, all things will come to us. Auspicious signs are not a superstition, but a confirmation. They are a response. It is said that if one chooses to pray to a rock with enough devotion, even that rock will come alive. In the same way, once we choose to commit ourselves to spiritual practice, even the mountains and valleys will reverberate to the sound of our purpose. Discuss ?

No, it's Lin Kong Jing, as I've already said countless times. Please go and dump on another thread.
-
Kong Jing is 'empty force' Lin Kong Jing is 'powerful empty force' I think you'll find maths deals with numbers, whilst english deals with language. See page 1, post 8.
-
I never said it was ! The title of this thread is 'Empty Force' and NOT Yin Yang Gong. Please be respectful to the OP and the theme of this thread. If you wish to discuss YYG, then start your own thread. I don't wish to get into a 'my style is better than your style' shenanigans thank you. That is served well enough on Martial Arts Planet forums ! Also, please don't use YouTube as a yardstick when discussing Empty Force. You won't find anything there as I've already said. Or maybe you chose not to read that part of my post.

I'm beginning to think that this energy works on psychic levels as well as physical. The attackers felt like they couldn't, or didn't want to attack Mr. Mooney.
-
The discussion is about Lin Kong Jin, not neigong or David Verdesi $$$$$. Why do you think the book is false ?
-
But even if you don't develop this power, you'll have a pretty good zhan zhuang and meditation practice.
-
The YouTube videos are horrendous. Nearly all are staged. There are many, many people who have successfully cultivated this type of force and use it for healing, both of self and others. They just don't make it public for fear of ridicule because of the tainted reputation the art now has. It's not meant as an art in which to challenge MMA fighters. That's just silly.
-
Well, you're entitled to your opinion of course. Have you spent years, daily, cultivating this kind of force ? Do you know anyone personally who has experience with this art ? You see, people nowadays want the quick fix. They're not prepared to put in the long hours daily for many years in order to develop special skills.
