Thank you. That is a great article from a well respected teacher. May I suggest Lam Kam Chuen's book, The Way Of Energy, which will guide you gradually through the process. Also very importantly, try to find a teacher in the internal arts who can correct any imbalances you may have, even if you just meet up periodically.

Shocked and helpless. However much we do will never be enough.

This is the sort of quote that makes me run a mile from religion.

Hi everyone. I have been practicing ZZ for a few years now, mainly for health and well being. I have most of the literature which is available in English eg.Lam Kam Chuen's books, Warriors Of Stillness, JP Lau's web page etc etc. I have also had lessons from a guy who goes to Hong Kong to train regularly. This all stems from students of Master Wang and his Dachengchuan/Yiquan martial art. I am aware of it's work in the internal martial arts (san ti shi in XYQ for example) I'm interested in the history of ZZ before this period and of the part it played in TCM and self healing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The book I have is 'Warriors Of Stillness Volume 2 The Tao Of Yiquan' It's all about WXZ and his art. Sorry if I misled you with the title.

Great article. I do like a couple of cups of coffee before 10AM. After that it's green and herbal tea along with plenty of purified water of course. Food wise I'm vegan and have been for a year and a half with no drop in energy levels. In fact I feel better than ever.

I'd second the JJ Semple recommendation. He has walked the path and knows a hell of a lot. I'm using his method to arouse my Kundalini. All the best

I voted 'unqualified teachers...' There are waaaaaay too many fake/phony/learned from a book types out there. -
Getting a grip on classic traditions.

I also have that book by Prabhupada but it is heavily biased towards the hare krishna movement. I too am looking for a translation, but without any sectarian bias. Best wishes -
Greetings everyone. I've just started to read the Chuang Tzu and have come across a term that I need some help with. 'Sacrifice To The Ancestors' has cropped up a couple of times so far and I was wondering where this came from. Obviously there was no Taoism at the time that the Chuang Tzu was written, so my theory was that this is some sort of shamanistic/folk/family ritual that existed around this time. I'd be interested in anyone's thoughts on this. Thanks

Hi Marblehead. Thanks for that article. Very interesting stuff. So, it seems to be more like a praising/thanking to the family ancestors and their enshrined remains, normally conducted by the higher members of society. There are some parallels to what is now known collectively as Shinto in Japan. Although this was derived from ancient folk and shamanistic practices also. Thanks

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a while. Thought it was time to dip my toe in. My main interests are martial arts, taoist cultivation and overall health. I find the works of Krishnamurti, Tolle and Adyashanti interesting also. Looks like these areas are well covered here.
