  1. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

And where is the guy who started this thread? Disappeared? Is this one of those pseudo bashing threads that were so frequent on the now gone (thank GOD lol) infamous Buddhist forum? Someone would start a thread trying to harmlessly compare two systems, often sounding sympathetic to the non-Buddhist system but the intention was clear. Everyone had decided they knew Buddhism was the only way and it was just a pastime to bash and grade other systems. An inner need to constantly seek confirmation for their own Buddhist practice could have been a probable reason. But yeah, this does seem one such thread...no drama, so start a thread and toss a bone to the debating Buddhists. Daniel I's forum (or Kenneth's) forum is the only one where I haven't seen such wasteful pastime.
  2. Stripping The Gurus

Lol, does seem to have followers here, who jump up and down if his teachings are questioned. Buddhism is Quantum mechanics, theory of relativity, science of conventional mind, road to omniscience (yeah yeah for Mahayana), only wrote to the final step of enlightenment (yeah yeah others have a static GOD consciousness which will cause rebirth) and Hindus are pseudo-intellectual morons. What is there to challenge here? Seems pretty direct and nac, CowTao, Mikaelz have concluded this. If you disagree, you have to quit your job and respond to 300 posts as they will keep posting the same rebuttals over and over again. One choice, we can forget them and get a life (yeah yeah that is full of suffering lol). Seems not that bad after all. We haven't taken Bodhisattva vows like them.
  3. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

So Hari can get away with his opinions and a lay Indian cannot because he is not Buddhist? So which "Hindu Master" claims of these unlike the "Buddhist Masters"? And the sample of Indians you refer to having those fancy pastimes, they represent all Hindus? Hinduism is not even one homogenous system to make such a foolish assumption. And not to forget the Atharvana Veda which does have many concepts covering fields such as astronomy which is currently studied with interest by the West. Talk of hypocrisy!
  4. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

One would have to take this at a face value as it's not true with 90% of the Moslems in India. Does not everyone know about it? I lived in India for 11 months and it was pretty evident. Yes, it is possible you are among the remaining 10%. Would need to read more of what you write to figure out if that is true at all. Oh, when you talked about over intellectualization among Hindus... the Buddhists claim that the Buddha and his bunch knew everything about evolving science, knew of Quantum Physics and Quantum Physics is in fact a proof for Buddhism. What is your take on it? I am an Engineer turned Physicist too but would like to know your opinion since you come from scientific community as against wanna be philosophers with no academic background in science who have derived such conclusions.
  5. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

Yes it's totally different! Its not Diet Coke, it's Coke Zero. Color is different, even tastes different if you drink a couple gallons and check, bottle has a slightly different shape and the name is different. The whole concept of coke zero is different. Who says so? The guys who make Coke Zero and it must be true. Diet Coke is all about Atman/Brahman flavor. Coke Zero has different packaging and the text on the bottle clearly says - No Atman/Brahman is in use. Only Anatta used. So they are totally different.
  6. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

Why? Not of any use to me! And you did not even disagree with me here when I said Tantrayana pulls off from bon and Trika. So why convince and for what? Just to keep this Buddhism thread up and running for ever like some would like? Awesome experiences.....easily as he can - Not sure what you mean by this. I don't find it to be relevant to what I said above. If you were replying to something else, it helps to quote suitable and keep the conversation structured.
  7. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

Didn't someone say Buddhists are all funny and happy and post some Dalai Lama poses on another thread. Where is all that humour in the face of criticism? One finds the joke about picking a brain gross, the other flares up for no reason etc. But I thought one of the precepts at the stage of yogatantra and resulting from mahayoga was compassion and composure during the hardest times in terms of speech, thought and action. So did folks here graduate to the highest vehicle of Dzogchen skipping the lower yanas? You guys crack me up! Talking like you know better than the Tathagata himself! Oh, and this was not directed towards nac. You seem to be more sensible than the other Buddhist fanatics on this thread and that shows when you point out the development of Sutrayana from sharamana system and tantra from Trika Shaivism (Not really trika as trika itself is derived from older Agama Tantras but not important).
  8. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

What makes you think I have not? Have you read any? Alexis Sanderson is one of my teachers if it helps. When I concluded that Tibetan Buddhism was a lot of things made to fit into the shoes of Buddhism and explained as 'its all about the view', I didn't do that without proper study. Did you say you were a Moslem before? Is that somehow responsible for your prejudice against Vedas or Hinduism? That need not be necessary but that seems cultural among the lots of Moslems I have seen. They seem to have baseless hatred for Hinduism and side with anything that challenges Hinduism. So far, on this thread, I have seen no direct indication if you are one such person, but hell, what is the harm in asking!
  9. How detremental is external locking method?

My teacher studied with a lot of masters including Yan Xin. Three months of three sessions of 100-breath counting dantien meditation is the best foundation, till you can retain clear awareness all the way upto 100th breath. And then you move on to the common standing practice. Simple enough to start off without the need for a teacher. With that foundation, you have a strong base to move to other advanced practices. And if you can do that in full lotus, nothing like it! A highly cultivated teacher, I was told, did just this, some standing and ran for 30 minutes everyday. He cultivated faster and better than many famous qigong masters in China in the 60s and 70s. I can't remember his name now. Or were you asking for a testicular breathing-specific practice?
  10. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

Vajra will throw a fit at this one! Lol it won't matter to fanatics that this is true. Kashmiri Shaivism cannot be called Nastika at all, if that is what you're implying above. It is more Astika than even Advaita. Nastika has nothing to do with holding Veda as authority or not. It is about the notion of a Brahman, Purusha or the Ultimate Source Power - call it Awareness, consciousness, conditioned, unconditioned or whatever. The only two Nastika darshanas are Jainism and Buddhism. First time I have heard this ignorant statement that typifies Trika as Nastika. Also, Trika does not negate the authority of Veda or call it names like the later Buddhists. They simply hold the authority of Agama as superior to Veda. And that too only of Bhairavagamas and not the Raudra or Shaiva agamas which are dual and mixed type. And Tibetan Buddhism - Bon, Shaivism influenced Lamaism with a superimposition of Mahayana philosophy. Tools from everywhere and anywhere put inside the Mahayana case. That makes it Buddhist, so claim some. There are those who disagree, even within Buddhists and also historically.
  11. Advaita and Buddhism are the Same After All

Drew, you're awesome man! You kinda just typed my mind here. Oh, haven't seen much from you on this forum lately. Write more often dude! You are one of the few folks I keep coming back to this forum for in spite of these huge threads with nothing but mental masturbation that people like to claim as critical thinking or inquiry into the real nature of mind or whatever other name they got for the lube that they use to jerk off. Pure nonsense and justification for that nonsense is even more crap. Like this CowTao dude, he agrees with everything Vaj says just because both of them are crazy about Buddhism. So, this is what isms are like. People spend all their time and effort in fighting for their belief systems, grading other systems bad and trying to do the thinking for everyone else but themselves... lol Yeah, I am sitting in full lotus as I speak. Can do it for 45 minutes but not more than that for a single sitting. By the way I can't find that Qi-ssage thread. Have you tried that and find it useful?
  12. Hi

    Hello Taobums
  13. Ok, ok, Mr. Reactive, let’s step back for a minute and talk with some sense ok? A few simple things, which I hope are not unreasonable even to you! 1. Both Red Phoenix and Kunlun are Taoist practices, with specific goals and they date back to Egypt. This is what Max told me. KAP is a totally different case. Not the same. He teaches thunderpath, Kunlun-Maoshan, Egyptian alchemy and he does not advice people to mix these. He clearly said pick one, stay with it. He also said, if you have attachment issues with giving up your older practices, then you should analyze if you can practice them together, till you can let go. 2. You have only read about stuff on all of this and have no direct experience with anything you are talking of. a. You have not studied KAP, don’t understand what is in there, talk based on Santiago’s propaganda and what SOME of his students write here – I have taken KAP-1 b. You have not studied with Dr. Morris, probably have read a book or two? – I have read him and also studied with him. c. You have read about Max, and read what his students say? Every student has his own interpretation of what Max said. I am stating what he told me – not what he told x that y heard, told z and you heard from z. get it? So you have not studied or practiced anything you talk about here. Have you studied with any traditional teacher for a long period and done an objective comparison? If not, then writing lengthy paragraphs don’t matter. Please don’t waste my time with such statements okay? Go back, study any of these, study a traditional path the way it should be and then come back and argue with some relevance. He said that, I read this, they told me this - Well then let them talk! I bet Santiago likes your kind of mental masturbation for it promotes him? Selective Philosophy
  14. Very nice stuff. Thanks Kunlun Enthusiast. I am/was a New Ager so to say myself and have done it all, done courses with Glenn Morris, KAP etc. and reached the same conclusion. Max bringing back Egyptian practices is certainly not New Age. I took two seminars with him and he explained that Red Phoenix and Kunlun were parts of one system, he did not string them together himself. Wrong statement in accusing him of mixing practices. He tells you not to mix it with anything else. KAP faster than traditional methods? Please .... promotion of your course is good, but this is a little too much.
