Ah. But you missed the point entirely. "Time" is the label we create in order to identify a continuously repetitive event. We call time the duration between the Rise of the Sun and its Setting... But whether we label it, or name it or claim it, the existence of the duration between the setting and the rise exist regardless. Just as we are born and live and die. We call that "life" so we can identify it and communicate it, but OUR acknowledgement or desire to identify it and give it a name is not IT's creation. It exists without our knowledge and with it. And thus when it comes to the ego and the self; Everything exists and happens without our "self" needing to acknowledge it. The "i" statements we make during conversation and interaction are simply to communicate our state of experience; The ego exists only in a world where others exists. The point however is, that whether we label it "time" or pick you word of choice, it is simply a lingual description of something which we did not create and which has existed before us. By sitting on the grass and counting your heart beats in a rested state and compare it to something else you "acknowledge" duration and you may call that "time" if you wish or leave it nameless. Our acknowledgement however is not what motivates the sun to rise or set or the earth to spin. Without having time, or clocks, or sundials, the cycles that exist in the universe will continue to exist regardless of our knowing it. But if we choose to notice them, and perhaps even give it a name or call it "time", then we simply identify it so that we may communicate it, we do not create it. Because of this sometimes i wonder could the self or ego exist if there were only 1 living thing in the world? - Is the ego born at the point of first interaction, first communication? - With the need to interact with others comes the need for language and description. We describe things that already exist and things that we imagine can or may exist. I've boiled it down to... Need for Expression >> Identification >> Ego So to dull the ego... you must stop identifying... to stop identifying you must stop communicating. O_O Or at least, stop communicating with others that are controlled by their ego. Perhaps this is why seclusion is so important in the Taoist arts and others. Or maybe just noticing the difference is enough? Anyway... to round this off... If you want to prove that time exists you simply need to look around. We observed something that existed before we existed and we gave the duration of its movement a name; "time". Simply based on that to US who accept time as the duration between the sunrise and the sunset; Time EXISTS, such as it is. We could as well have calculated "time" based on the sight of the moon each night, or anything else; take your pick. And then that would have been time. It's an identity we created. Which is why it exists. Just as we can create a car and we call the Iron and Oil and Rubber and Skin; "Car". But we only created the name and not the fact that the earth takes so long to rotate per day or the moon has so and so days in a cycle. No these things exists regardless. Only the identities we create to relate them and communicate them are of our own creation. We simply identify. Thats all it is. But EXISTENCE precedes IDENTIFICATION, whether existence is an idea, or a measurable fact.

Hhmm... I have to disagree with you there. Yes, It was man who created the cogs and tightened the nuts and oiled the gears and sealed the clock, so that we might have time to look upon, such as it is; mechanical, electronic etc. However... To say that "something" does not exist until we recognize it does and give it a name to be called by is false. In essence you somewhat contradict yourself there as that would mean; nothing exists without the ego or the self to initially recognize it, to name it, or claim it. I propose the following for your consideration; The sun rises and sets, the moon orbits around our planet, the earth rotates on its axis: These things whether we become aware of them, enough to name them, exist... Such is the universe, that it does not require anything to exist, from nothing it has everything and it flourishes in its namelessness. Yet despite that, you may observe the "sun" without naming it and gaze at the stars without claiming them; still of that you could deduce both an orientation of the passing of "time" and the "cardinal points". Do they need a name? - No. Because of this, i think it is wrong to say; it does not exist. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say: It has always existed, We have not. In English we say "time". In Bulgarian we say "vreme".... Yet it does not matter that they are different. Because they are empty descriptions. If it was not the sun, or the stars or the moon. It would be the birds, or the rivers, or the temperature, or a simple sand clock or sundial. We have been gifted with the power of creation and i think that what we create is very much real; from "time" to an illness, to a placebo effect etc. It is simply reality and existence on different levels... these concepts exist in a more impermanent dimension of thought and understanding. But that... does not make them any less real in my opinion even if short lived in comparison to the greatness of the heavenly things : ) Langster

Hello Guys, I have a buddy who is 6'7 470lbs and on medication for allergies. He is currently not living a very healthy life and out of care i introduced him to Qi Gong - Meditation and sent him some material to read up on, so he can open his mind to all the things of our universe. It's seems like his situation would prompt a more delicate approach perhaps? Can you guys recommend some practices for him. Where should he start from? I have initiated him on SFQ and Stillness Meditation for the LDT. I would really like him to start taking care of himself. He has never done anything like this before and as you can tell is out of shape. How do you recommend he starts out? Love

Thanks so much guys. I will send the info to him. If anyone else has experience with larger folks when it comes to Qi Gong, please share, i would really like for him to be able to get started. Much appreciated

I don't think he is talking about visual noise related to any sort of disfunction. I wrote about this recently too. As my practice has advanced i see stars regularly in my vision. They are not just plain white dots, they are slightly luminescent with a strong glow in the middle which decays outwards. They are not floaters, or noise due to something else. I am certain they are connected to my meditation and have never experienced them before. I don't really care what it means, i try not to linger on the effects, but just practice. : )

http://www.redwingbooks.com/products/books/DaoExoEncSor.cfm Has anyone read that book? - Any thoughts in general on Exorcism? Should the average practitioner be worried about these things? I feel there should be a set of basic guidelines outlining safety procedures for such encounters, but i have never read any in books. After all much of what we do is spiritually oriented, should we not be prepared to handle the good as well as the bad? I feel ill prepared sometimes. I generally try to let things be and pass during meditation, whatever they are, good or bad - i just acknowledge, but don't indulge. Never the less, exceptions do happen and it would be nice to have some "tips" on how to deal with these things should one ever be overwhelmed.
