Absolutely, especially the eight extraordinary vessels. These were the first channels to develop as an embryo and therefore have a very deep effect. I use them in almost every treatment in some way.

Practical questions - reincarnation, karma and samsara

Ultimately any claims about what happens in the afterlife made by the living is going to be speculation, including the speculation that there even is an afterlife. -
Practical questions - reincarnation, karma and samsara

There are lots of cases of young children supposedly remembering past lives with great detail. I don't know for sure but one could speculate that perhaps this is one source for a belief in past lives? -
I don't know much about this, but I think it's interesting.

I suppose in a similar way that any other religious belief came into being. -
Trying to understand this as I’m not an Abrahamic…

Could anyone introduce me to the basics of daoism?

I think if you ask ten people you'll get thirteen explanations lol. -

It was through scientific instruments and observations that they were detected. There are machines that can supposedly detect blockages in meridians and some acupuncturists use them profusely.

I use a technique call distal needling channel theory. So usually when I treat neck pain for example I most often put the needles in the lower leg.

There has been research done in the last few years that have found that the meridians are pathways of higher natural conductivity within the fascia and other connective tissue of the body that has an affect upon the nervous system. Qi just means energy in Chinese. The definition of energy is the ability to do work. Qi is a way of describing the functions of various parts of the body when used in a medical context. For example I recently used in another post Spleen qi as a descriptive term to describe the digestive system as a whole.

Difficult to say for sure without having seen you in person and evaluated you, but I do see this sort of thing all day everyday.

It's doubtful that TCM could make his disorder go away, but it could defiantly alleviate the symptoms and bring relief.
-
Getting the nervous system into parasympathetic is where the effect come from.

That is a good question, but mental health was my area of focus in school. So to answer your question, this is a more difficult one to treat and because of the nature of the disease I unfortunately don't get a lot of opportunity to treat it, but with that being said there is a lot that acupuncture and herbs can do for any mental health issue, including Schizophrenia. *most cases of Schizophrenia would be a TCM condition called "phlegm misting the orifices of the heart".

We needle acupuncture points. The acupuncture points activate the nervous system. This is thought to occur through the fascia between the acupuncture point and needle and nearby nerves. The exact mechanisms by which it works are still not fully understood.
-
Because the meridians are not supernatural, but very natural lol.
-
I didn't say there wasn't a connection. I said we don't touch the nerves themselves with the needles.
-
The needles activate the nervous system for sure, but we are not sticking needles into nerves. That would be bad.
-
This is a good point. I always hear people saying Taoism is about following nature, when the Tao Te *cough cough says to follow the Tao, not nature.
-
Maybe people that discredit facts and sources and rely upon their opinions that have no basis in reality?
-
We are actually not trying to hit nerves with the needles. We are trying to hit acupuncture points, which have an effect on the nervous system, but are not nerves themselves.
-
Absolutely, in fact the main effect from acupuncture is achieved through the nervous system. Most issues of chronic pain are the nervous system putting a part of the body into fight or flight "sympathetic nervous system". For example when someone sustains an injury in the shoulder, the tissues are damaged and bleed. The nervous system responds by putting that part of the body into fight or flight which closes down the capillary circulation so one does not bleed too much inside their bodies which is useful during the moment of injury. The problem is when the nervous system gets stuck in sympathetic and the capillary circulation never returns in a sufficient quantity for tissue repair to take place, so the injury never heals properly. Acupuncture tells the nervous system to take that part of the body out of sympathetic and put it back into parasympathetic (rest, relax, and repair). When this happens the capillary circulation opens up again and then the damage begins to repair. So yes acupuncture accomplishes most of its effect via the nervous system.

You might find this interesting if you're into internal marital arts and are wondering about powers.
