Do you have a quote or a link ? Does NT discuss the snake ?
Ā
Revelation 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out ā that serpent of old called the Devil and Satan, who deceiveth the whole world. He was cast out onto the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." -KJV

The OT won't have about Christ, clearly, the question is, is OT Satan the same entity in the NT Satan ?
Ā
Your question was about the snake being equated to SatanĀ which is what my answer was in reference to.Ā

Ā
In the Hebrew bible no.
Ā
In the Christian New Testament yes.Ā

Ā
If I had to take a guess based upon what I understand about human nature maybe one group switched them to distinguish themselves from the other? But like I said that is just a guess on my part.Ā

I don't know, but that is a completely different topic lol.Ā

Ā
I already stated those about the Christian version, the Jewish version, and the scholarly understanding of where the concept came from earlier in the post.Ā

He is barley mentioned in the bible, so a lot of the lore around him is non-biblical, folk belief. If you disagree, thats fine, but id like it If you flesh it Out more. Looking forward to Daniels take from a jewish perspective as well.
Ā
if the question had been "what is evil" then that would be a bit more encompassing.Ā
-
1 minute ago, NaturaNaturans said:Isnt that pretty much the same?
Ā
No, "Satan" is the name of a very specific being in various (mostly) Abrahamic literature.Ā
-
Again are we talking about "Satan" specifically, or just any perceived "evil spirit" in general?Ā

1 minute ago, NaturaNaturans said:I feel pretty confident we are talking about it in a Christian or jewish context. He is barley mentioned in the bible. His names means advisary. Mentioned tree times in OT. In NT he seems to become a force of his own, Ā«the god of this world.Ā»
Ā
Even the Jewish and Christian Satan are quite different. The Jewish version is more like the official tester designed by God to see if you are going to do right. Whereas in Christianity he rebelled against God and is in direct opposition to him.Ā

Greek daimon and english demon has very different conotations. Point is that things that were common, even good, has been changed or morphed into something satanic.
Ā
The original question is "who or what is Satan". My question would be "who's Satan are we talking about"? Different traditions have different versions of Satan.Ā
-
I noticed that even though the topic is about Satan, there is a lot of talk about witches. I thought I would point out that witchcraft and satanism are not the same thing.Ā
-
2 minutes ago, NaturaNaturans said:Apperantly both hex and witch (and wicca) stems from PIE *weik, meaning to change or bend. Not until christianity came along did it become something demonic, it seems. At least not to the same degree. Female healers and virgins and seers seems to have been a custom troughout pagan Europe.
Ā2 numbers 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Ā
That's because Christianity is dualistic and exclusive.Ā
-
It's believed that "Satan" the adversary came about when the Jews were in exile in Persia and came into contact with Zoroastrianism with the dual good and evils gods.Ā

Ā Rav Ammi suggests, drawing on a pair of verses from Isaish 51, that Avraham and Sarah were in fact tumtumim, and Rabbi Nachman further imagines that Sarah was an aylonit.

2 minutes ago, NaturaNaturans said:Why is there so strikingly many trans people in Thailand compared to the rest of the world?
Ā
This is a good question and I have actually put some thought into it and one of the things I thought of is that Thailand is almost all Buddhist and Buddhism unlike Abrahamic religions is not judgmental about things like being trans. So my assumption is that Thailand has about as many trans people as everywhere else but they are more free to come out and present as their true gender.Ā

4 minutes ago, Daniel said:Ā
Is there a trans community in your area?Ā Do you feel like "the only one"?
Ā
There is one from what I hear but a. I work a lot and don't really have time for that, and b. to be honest I'm not really that interested. I did choose to talk about it here, but these kinds of trans groups tend to talk about their gender all the time and I would rather not obsess over my gender and just live life.Ā

Without cessation there is no pleasure?
Ā
No lol. Let's go through the four noble truths shall we?
Ā
1. In life there is suffering.
Ā
2. The cause of suffering is desire.
Ā
3. There is an end of suffering (when there is no suffering the natural state of the mind is peace and happiness)
Ā
4. The eight fold path that leads to the end of suffering.Ā
