Seeing, Recognising & Maintaining One's Enlightening Potential

In the Sutra Revealing the Inconceivable Realm of the Buddhas, it was written thus: So called ‘attainment’ is transient indeed, And so called ‘realization’ is arrogant assumption. Transient or arrogant assumption, it must be the work of mara. They are extremely arrogant who think, “I have attained this.” Or say to themselves, “I have understood completely.” Reflecting on the above, Chandrakirti, one of Nagarjuna's chief disciples, said, "I have no problem when someone says, "I am searching", but when someone says, "I have found it", then there will be a problem." I like this conversation that took place between Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche and one of his students... -

Seeing, Recognising & Maintaining One's Enlightening Potential

The two things that have shaped my adult life more than anything else are meditation and being sick. I know this is true because I cry as I write it. They are so tightly braided that I can no longer imagine what either would be without the other. Meditation helped me to make it through years of illness; illness forced my meditation to be deep and strong and real. Because of their unyielding collaboration, the dark colors of the open wound and the experience of bearing the unbearable are known to me. Also known is the experience of healing. Healing not as the elimination of disease, but as a falling in love with the poignancy of being alive: taking the great injured heart of the world for my own and coming to respect the essential mystery of life, so that my answer to many questions is, 'I don't know,' and this not knowing is a form of generosity. ~ Joan Sutherland, in her essay "Body of Radiant Knots: Healing as Remembering" -

Seeing, Recognising & Maintaining One's Enlightening Potential

Throughout the day, put the teachings into practice. In the evening examine what you have done, said, and thought during the day. Whatever was positive, dedicate the merit to all beings and vow to improve on it the next day. Whatever was negative, confess and promise to repair it. In this way, the best practitioners progress from day to day, the middling practitioners from month to month, and the least capable from year to year. ~ Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche -
sounds delicious! Try throwing in some chopped basil as well. Great for health and does wonders to lift the taste!

You're very welcome, Karen Yes, there was/is. I recall seeing it too. Youtube has a few too, im sure. Been to a few myself. People can be quite gullible.

My ancestors, grandfather and father were all devout Buddhists. I grew up and lived for 30 years in South East Asia. Not much in relation to pseudo-Buddhism/Shamanism/Folk religions in that part of the world that i am not familiar with. Certainly not an authority, but pretty confident I know more about it than you.

Its a common practice among certain admixture of tao/buddhist/confucian/shaman sects all over South East Asia, and China as well. A certain yellow paper is used by an oracle or a tao master (called Dao Zi in Cantonese) under influence from one of a whole host of celestial beings, and on it written magical spells with a Chinese calligraphy brush and red ink. After working on it (usually chanting something which cannot be understood by onlookers) the Fu (that yellow piece of paper) is burnt and ashes mixed into a glass of water subsequently consumed by whomsoever is seeking celestial intervention in worldly troubles.

To “know” the emotion is to understand that, as it has no root, there is and never has been an emotion. Some people talk about emotion, particularly the negative emotions, as if they were some kind of hideous, demonic force that willfully invades your being, but they are not like that at all. When you feel angry, just watch your anger. Not the cause of the anger or its result, just the emotion of anger. As you stare at your anger, you will discover there is nothing you can point to and say, “That is my anger.” And the understanding that there is absolutely nothing there is what is called the “dawn of wisdom.” ~ Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche -
Imo the clip did nothing to enhance the credibility of the thread title at all, and did not suggest anything 'esoteric', 'rare', nor 'Buddhist' in any way.

Gender roles: traditional view of men and women interaction in life and practice
C T replied to Kara_mia's topic in Newcomer Corner
yes you are right.. women ought to remember to go inside, deep, and celebrate their primordial nature more often so as not to forget their softness, and men/partners can learn to support that journey, because what comes back will be a blessing for both -

It is time we truly recognize that the era of the hunter is past. This should be a more “feminine” era – an era when women make greater contributions to society. If we continue to devalue what women have to offer, we will continue harming women and continue overlooking and devaluing these virtues that are considered “feminine.” And these are precisely the virtues that the world needs more now. ~ 17th Karmapa -
Im wondering whether 'Should' is an appropriate term to use when it comes to abiding by Buddhist principles. Also wondering if existence is an illusion as per same.

good dreams, bad dreams .. all are dreams. Dreams are empty.. thoughts that occur while in the sleep state. Thoughts are empty... merely dreams that occur in the waking state. Do not be disturbed by either. Find the essence of both, and you will forever be free.

Individual karma dictates, so each unfurling of the effects of kundalini will vary dependent on the awareness level and receptivity of that individual.
