  2. Incense

If i had a fairly large block of sandalwood, i know what i'd do... plane it, get the ribbons, pulverise them in a food processor, and finally grind them in a clean spice grinder, one where you can adjust how fine or coarse you want the granules to be. Long-ish process, but much less demanding than sand-papering the wood. It'd take many hours sanding to get the same volume from maybe 10 minutes work with the process mentioned. Just a thought. late edit: added missing word 'take'
  3. Incense

At home, we burn sandalwood chips in a designated burner. There's no need to powderise it. The burner looks something like this:
  4. Very often great healing can occur simply from developing pure intentions based on wishing all beings to be free of suffering and are able to connect unreservedly with source of all happiness. The chief tendency or cause of dis-ease is self-cherishing. Self-cherishing is the biggest culprit which causes the heart to contract. Once this process is ongoing, there will necessarily be rebounds, and these rebounds manifest then as fragmentation leading to all kinds of physical and mental discomforts. Most people wont accept this premise, and will look to outside assistance. Then they get caught and have to deal with this problem of healers charging money etc., all quite unnecessary considerations. Unfortunately, this does nothing but only compounds the fragmented self even more. The greatest good we can do for ourselves is to cherish others as much or more than we cherish ourselves. A win-win process that will yield immense healing potential. Look at the faces of those whom we perceive (admire) as authentically enlightened or awakened. Look at their life actions. Its all they do, think and act for other's benefit.
  5. Lama stabs and shoots his students

Limited bodhicitta practiced in the waking state will be transformed into limitless bodhicitta in the dream state, which is of great benefit to dedicated spiritual aspirants. So, we practice doing a little good habitually, within the limits of our physical form, accumulating this merit day by day - there will come a time when the altruistic force of the accumulations will pervade our dreams in very apparent ways. Eventually, as the gap between dream and wakeful moments begin to narrow, we can notice that altruistic wishes, whenever activated during waking moments, for example during formal practice sessions, will instantly arouse bliss, clarity and non-thought. A sort of loop will be effected so that dream states can also be imbibed with these three qualities. Gradually, the seemingly dualistic states will fade into the background and one becomes more and more awake.
  6. China seems like a good testing ground. What you need in addition to a squire is an eager cameraperson. Capture all the wide-eyed looks and publish a book then. You'll make millions and have plenty of loose change to buy designer corsets for the ladies in waiting.
  7. Incense

I got some flak one time for mentioning that i liked Nag Champa. The guy said i was supporting child labour and Sai Baba, whose enterprises are supposedly behind this brand. I wasn't aware of this, and never bothered to even find out if it was true. Have tried a wide variety of incense, but still come back to Nag Champa. A lot of friends use this brand as well. We all agree that its pleasant, wont choke the nostrils, and economical. I grew up with incense, morning, noon & nite, and weekly doses of burning camphor in my house, which my dad uses for his pujas. Sometimes, looking from the outside, with all that smoke, its like the house was on fire. Rather surprising that a fire engine never showed up outside before. I do daily prayers in the mornings, and that is when i would light one as an offering, together with 3 candles and 7 small cups of water. On special days i would offer flowers as well.
  8. Water

Ooo... a new one! Thanks, RV!! Must try and get my hand on samples. Sounds really good. My friends, those who drink nothing but Willow, swear it has curative properties. Probably from the presence of salacin in the water.

  11. Resentment of Incarnation

Resentment is actually one of the main contributing factors that causes rebirth. Your present thoughts determine your future thoughts. Simple law of one begetting the other, aka rebirth. Its the clinging that gets reborn. Nothing else. Its clinging that produces the idea of birth, the idea of old age, the idea of death. Most cling even tighter at the point of death. The tighter one clings, the greater the force of karma, the higher the chances of coming back in a more confused state. And this principle is at work all the time, not just at the point of dying. Each cycle of the breath is a micro experience with living and dying.
  12. Will somebody please convince me?

Thats right. Actually, compassion, which is only the citta aspect of bodhi-citta, is not wishy-washy at all, if understood correctly. Bodhi, the wisdom aspect, must be fully developed before the citta aspect can be activated without falling into traps, if you know what i mean. And from that experience of yours above, i think you are becoming more aware of the subtleties involved. You should give the Lojong a go. Do it for at least a year. I think it will open you up in a big way.
  13. trusting spirits?

Songtsan, sorry to say, but your mind appears to be very scattered. My advice, which you are free to disregard, is to find a proper tradition and focus on what that path lays out for their practitioners in terms of practice. At the rate you are going, genuine awakening will elude you. You have too many distractions. I'm only saying this out of brotherly concern. Dont take it wrongly please.
  14. Water

Thermos® has a good range of glass vacuum-insulated beverage bottles. Different capacities. Not sure what material for the cap.
  15. Natural order is a yang view

Nope, it was just me thinking out loud when i read that thing. Wasn't too sure so went digging, and corrected with the late edit. Order from chaos i think is a process, whereas order within chaos is more like a principle. Thats my view anyway.
  16. Natural order is a yang view

Isn't that the Freemason's creed? edit: my mistake, its order from chaos - Ordo ab chao (lat.)

  21. Vajra strands

    1. Of that you are without any doubt? Is that a truth? 2. Thats easy to say.
  22. Vajra strands

How does that even relate to your assertion that it (Dzogchen) is beyond truth? Moreover, you implied that 'fruition' results from direct introduction. Are you sure about this? It does not seem probable as there are many who still experience wobbliness even after receiving abhisheka.
  23. trusting spirits?

Trusting one's intuitive abilities can be very beneficial and even be a life-saver. Abandoning it often leads to undesirable outcomes. A lot of western spiritual seekers got into difficulties in India, physically, mentally, emotionally, simply because they did not heed their better judgement. And they continue to remain vulnerable, which is quite a bizarre thing.
  24. DreamBliss gears up for dating... HELP!

I think the appropriate consideration would be to learn how to act naturally, spontaneously, without being slave to your desires. Eat when hungry, sleep when tired, that sort of way. Some people, being slave to unconscious habits, eat when they are tired, and sleep when they are hungry. No wonder they feel so fragmented all the time.
