Its not really off-topic. To get somewhere, a student needs guidance. I am saying to be very discerning where and whom to rely on for this guidance to bear fruit. There is always the excitement and emotional factors involved when we think we have found a master in whom we can believe, and then we dive in with gusto, only to realize there is so much at stake, and as a result niggling doubts arise. This stems from a shaky personal attitude, a weak foundation too. So, the work can begin with the self first, with the support of a genuine guide. The criteria for a genuine guide needs to be clearly established first.

transference of consciousness?? lol

Just watching a few videos sound a bit simplistic, for me anyway. I am not going to try anything based on watching some video, especially not something which can be found in the public domain. If its a private video sent from a source i trust, then thats different. Even then, there is a need for discernment. There is a lot of fluff out there. For example, in the Kalu Rinpoche video i posted in the Buddhist forum, he said it took him several years to finally come to acknowledge and trust his root guru. And this is someone who was with him everyday during his early years as a novice! This is the proper way to enter into fruitful student/master relationship, imo. He gave some more good advice in that talk pertaining to this matter.

I think there may be too much emphasis put on the 'urge to convince'. Before that can happen, a proponent of a valid system must first prime the ground so that minds can at least open to possibilities that there is indeed some credibility to what has been claimed. A primer must always precede any proper paint work. Thats what i am thinking. Both are equally vital. Problem is, most people are only keen to see whats on the surface.

If you dont talk about it, you cannot on the same note cry foul when people choose to ignore third party evidence, which is usually just sales pitch to make more money. Usually, not always though. I accept some could be genuine, but as mentioned, not interested in whose teacher has more power than whose. Im interested in your demo, if you have developed even a fraction of what you claim the system can offer.
-
What? Not even a fraction of tangibility after all these years of practice? Then how are you in the position to judge the lack in other systems and paths? Lets not go down the road of flashing 'teachers' about. Not interested. Serves no useful purpose. You are the one making the claims. Back them up yourself.

im looking forward to a video demo of mo pai power from Mr Gooch. At his convenience of course. Lets see how much it has manifested in you after all these years of practice. No more excuses.

Mind training is any process thru which one learns to voluntarily bring discipline to the mental workings of the mind. The result of mind training is clarity, wisdom, compassion and equanimity, all of which are the fundamental requisites of true warriorship. Mind training begins with motive, just like what you have stated above. Its a step in the right direction!

Precision means you need to be clear and in control (of body, speech and mind) at all times. If you want to slay a dragon, you need to know everything there is to know, firstly, of the dragon, and then of your own limitations as well as strengths. You want to go into the fight with as much advantage as possible, and in order to gain that advantage, precision is needed. Its a quality of warriorship. Great power alone does not complete a warrior's make-up. Great self-knowledge comes before great power is achieved. This is to avoid being blinded by sheer power alone.

Please do not depend on youtube videos if you are serious about gaining tangible powers. Assuming you are just the average person (i am) i'd say you would need to be prepared to train for many years before even moving from the basic position. I'd recommend to begin by training your mind first. A stable, joyful mind will engender many wonderful opportunities for real, helpful powers to manifest.
-
from what you have expressed here, there appears to be a certain level of haphazardness in your approach. If you are serious, then you need more precision, for a start at least.
-
most teachers out there have no real power either.

yes, i know... the 'Wha?' is a Chinese expression of surprise.

Wha?

yeah, Kalu Rinpoche is quite cool as the complete anti-stereotypical idea people have of how Tibetan lamas always project this overbearing stature where everyone is expected to kowtow to them. (Ralis is a prime example)

you do realize growth accelerates thru resistance and greater challenges, right?

Shurangama Mantra & 88 Buddhas Repentance Ceremony
C T replied to Simple_Jack's topic in Buddhist Textual Studies
you definitely have a point here. Likely the same principle at work seeing so many are now hooked on the ritual of social media-ing. Its very intense indeed. Frightening even. So much so that it can even supersede doing basic stuff like eating, having a shower, studies, exercise, quality time with family, doing Sunday outings.... extreme Fixation of an alarming degree i dare say. Wonder where all this is going to lead in the next 10 to 15 years. -
fixation can be used in the context of losing the ability to extricate oneself from the quagmire of deluded habits and negative thought patterns, or in the neutral sense of keeping one's mind on the important tasks at hand, or one-pointed concentration in meditative exercises. So it can be harmful, neutral or positive, depending on the individual's knowledge and understanding.

Thats why you keep making the same errors of understanding properly the concept of repentance within Buddhist contexts. -
against winter's cold some say ginger is quite good to nourish the glands...

Thats nonsense. Buddhist repentance has nothing to do with asking for divine intervention to rectify one's fault(s). You should know this. I think you are just taking pot shots again, like you sometimes do. Maybe you should learn to repent in order to cut out this habit.
