Does anyone on here read Eckhart Tolle?
C T replied to 73543_1494798777's topic in General Discussion
Tolle's writings cater well to the masses who are looking to re-ignite a certain feel-goodiness which, in most people, comes and goes, but also, where the hope is strong that this factor could, perhaps thru some formulae, become an increasingly stabilizing/mesmerizing feature in order to lift themselves out of the grinds of daily routines. Judging from how popular his writings and talks are, i would say there are heaps of directionless people looking to cling onto any new director to lend direction to their life-script. -

"Being natural" -- it has 3 layers, i think. Outer, inner, and innermost. Some like to focus primarily on the outer aspects, some on the inner, and a few on the innermost. Most esoteric traditions direct the adept towards a process which yield fruits from the innermost layers (or at least that's the main intent). A lot has to do with one's motivation. If the primary motives are pure and altruistic, then it follows that excessive focus on the self will drop away eventually, since the practice is mainly to help others 'reach the other shore'. Once the tightness of grasping on to a self becomes loosened, spaciousness and expansiveness follows, and in this ease, naturalness will flower. There is no need to consciously try to become natural, cos this will often be counter to that noble aspiration. Just try to help others, or at least try not to cause distress or bring harm to other sentient beings. This will bring about an eventual shift in motivation. How can wishing others to be happy not produce the fruits of profound inner peace? And, inner peace is the stepping stone to complete naturalness. just some thoughts.

Till today, there are still staunch believers who argues that he is in fact still alive, in permanent retreat somewhere in the mountains of China. They are of the firm stance that the body in the coffin was in fact a dummy, or some dude who happened to have died around that time and bore a slight resemblance to Bruce. These folks say that Bruce Lee became 'enlightened', and no longer wished to be 'in the world' of materialism. I dunno... maybe they are right, maybe not, who can say for sure? Stranger things have happened.

Resting the mind in its natural state
C T replied to Seeker of Wisdom's topic in Buddhist Discussion
Yes, but how does one awaken to the point of seeing things as they really are? Anyway, since all things are empty, where is this ignorance to be found, where is the need to destroy it, and where is its root? In my post, 'an evened mind' was a reference to having reached the point of complete and unceasing equanimity, which is what all buddhas have (supposedly). For me, thats an ideal, a reminder to keep practicing, but for one who have attained to the lofty heights of union of wisdom and compassion, its effortless. Why is it effortless? I think its from the final realization of sunyata. -
