Really wonderful words of deep insight, A7. Grateful for taking something so profound and making it quite comprehensible. Indeed. _/\_

"WITHOUT meditation, there is no self-knowledge; without self-knowledge, there is no meditation. So, one must begin to know what one is. You cannot go far without beginning near, without understanding your daily process of thoughts, feelings and actions. In other words, thought must understand its own workings, and when you see yourself in operation, you will observe that thought moves from the known to the known. You cannot think about the unknown. That which you know is not real because what you know is only always in time. To be free from the net of time is the important concern, not to think about the unknowable, because you cannot think about what is not known. The answers to your prayers are all of the known. To receive the unknown, the mind itself must move into the unknown, it must become one with it. The mind is the result of the thought process, the result of time, and this thought process must come to an end. The mind cannot fathom that which is eternal, timeless; therefore, the mind must be free of time, or the time process of the mind must be dissolved. Only when the mind is completely free from yesterday, and is therefore not using the present as a means to the future, is it capable of receiving the eternal... Therefore, our concern in meditation is to know oneself, not superficially, but the whole content of the inner, hidden consciousness. Without knowing all that and being free of its conditioning, you cannot possibly go beyond the mind's limits. That is why the thought process must cease, and for this cessation there must be knowledge of oneself. Therefore, meditation is the beginning of true wisdom, which is the deeper understanding of one's own mind and heart." - - - J. Krishnamurti

Hmm... this was done to great dramatic effect in the movie, "Curse of the Golden Flower" with Chow Yun Fat in the lead role. Have you seen it? If not, i think you will find it most entertaining!

Some kind words of advice from a highly qualified Tibetan teacher regarding the subject of spirits and other spooky stuff: http://blog.tsemtulku.com/tsem-tulku-rinpoche/2010/06/questions-on-ghosts.html Here he offers some basic protective practices anyone can use when needed: http://tsemtulku.com/teachings/contemplations/protection-from-black-magic-and-spirits/ May all beings (including spirits) be free from suffering, and the root causes of suffering. May the Dharma Protectors swiftly act on behalf of the afflicted, and free the minds of those who choose to afflict.

The tendency for being too analytical, over-projection, over-sensitivity, and the need to always compensate... these are some of the causes, i believe. They can lead to insurmountable levels of unnecessary frustrations. And at the root of all these causes lie self-attachment, which in turn fuels the causes. Its like being on a carousel where you think you cant get off. Something to ponder: http://aboutdharma.org/transforming-adverse-conditions.php/ also: http://www.thebuddhadharma.com/issues/2005/summer/haunted_dominion.html Enjoy the read! Hope things work out. (sometimes things have to fall apart completely before rebuilding can take place)

Actually what the ego finds too hot to handle is when one gets to become so fearless that one is able to breathe in the bad, to absorb the woes of others and self, and to breathe out goodness to others and self. This can be a great way to learn how to cherish others as equally deserving as oneself. Generally speaking, this goes against the grain to all that we have been taught, but then we can also acknowledge that its precisely all that we have been 'taught' that affirms the ego thus far. As a great yogi once said, "Whatever joy there is in this world, it all comes from wanting others to be happy; whatever misery there is in this world, it all comes from wanting oneself to be happy." (Shantideva) Wait a minute, people will say... this cant be right! I am to come first! Me, me and me first... my happiness, my this, my that!! Unfortunately, this can lead to immense clinging, and clinging is the root of attachment, and attachment is the supreme fertilizer, the perfect agent for for ego's blooming growth. Realizing this, Shantideva further said, "Knowing that destructive emotions are overcome through penetrating insight suffused with stable calm, you should first seek the peace of calm abiding, which is found in joy and non-attachment to the world." and... "If all the harms throughout the world, with all its fear and sufferings, all spring from clinging to a self, what need have i for such a demon?" Just remember, if our desire is deeply rooted in the creation of causes for others happiness and freedom to come before our own, nothing borne of human, nor anything that exists in non-human realms, would want to cause us harm. There is a story of a buddhist practitioner who has developed deep compassion for all living beings. This man would burst into tears should he even see a bug flying in to a flame and then inadvertently getting killed. One day his evil cousin, envious of his kind heartedness, sought the services of a black sorcerer to have an evil curse put on him. This sorcerer commanded 10 spirits from hell to torment this man, with the aim to drive him insane first before eventually making him commit suicide. When these evil spirits came upon their intended victim, they saw how he had such a good heart and only wishes happiness for all other beings, including spirits from other worlds as well, so they could not bring themselves to hurt this person. They thought, "How could we harm this man, who wishes only happiness and comfort for others, including our own kind?" Who would think that even evil spirits can tell the difference between a good person and a bad person? Suddenly, because they were able to exercise this noble discernment, these 10 ghouls became reborn in the higher realms, while the evil cousin and the sorcerer were condemned to the deepest hell realms. and now to close this with this appropriate wish... "May all beings be free from sorrow, and the root cause of sorrow. May all beings enjoy happiness, and the root causes of great happiness!"

"There is nothing heavier than compassion. Not even one's own pain weigh so heavy as the pain one feels for another; pain intensified by the imagination and prolonged by a hundred echos." (Milan Kundera - Czech novelist, playwright and poet)

'Buddhish' cults: http://www.buddhismaustralia.org/cults.htm "Liberation is nothing - delusion is the greatest wonder!" (Jed McKenna) -
Maybe this is because most of us operate way below our optimum level of 'being' at ease from within. We become heavy instead of light. What do you think? Personally i feel that if i can shift with the flow, the tendency will be that i will stay afloat, no matter what level the tide. Plant a stick deep into the sand and it gets swallowed when the tide comes in. 'Mind' can be like this stick. Sometimes we plant it too deep into things, whereby these very things, instead of lending buoyancy, fixate us, and as a result, stifle the unlimited potential to choose a different thought sequence or pattern. Hence most of us simply remain reactionary to conditions that generally are affecting 99.9 percent of the population. This is why Messiahs and Buddhas are seldom seen nowadays. Bad atmosphere? just pondering....

Perfect ease is when i can mindfully recall that in fact, i have not actually left home. Thinking that there is a 'home' out there is a delusion. Doing the 'going back home' is the fruit of thinking (as mentioned above). I think there could be more than a 100 million people who, unfortunately, choose to think in this way. Delusion is widespread. Its the only state of mind that is scintillating enough to make us want to be something or somewhere else other than what and where we already are. -

It might also be possible that we allow ourselves to be displaced from sitting comfortably within the 'lotus' of our own minds that subject us to being affected by external influences?
