  3. The Pursuit of Power

Maybe those that need to be "killed" are the irresponsible charlatans who make all kinds of outlandish claims that there are quickie routes towards what you term as 'natural abilities'. You yourself have stated over and over that even after going around the block a few times, you are still learning, which is only right, as far as attitude is concerned. My point is there are never any short-cuts. All endeavors, be they in any calling, need patience and the willingness to keep returning to the basics over and over until the footing is perfect. Its not the weakness of the seekers that is the problem, its the 'buzzards' who hover above and prey on those sincere enough to want to find an authentic practice that ought to be "kicked to the curb".
  4. The Pursuit of Power

Humility and patience - both excellent attributes, and highly crucial in the quest for 'spiritual' power. Alas such fundamental qualities seem lost in today's world, what with so many out there offering all kinds of short-cuts to all kinds of 'realms'! No wonder the gods are all confused, and often end up placing such powers in the wrong type of so-called teachers, who in turn churn out the wrong kind of students. If there were more respect for time and effort in cultivation, it would certainly reduce the chance of someone suddenly exposing themselves to 'powers' that they will find some difficulty in assimilating.

I am not looking to go anywhere fast Santi.. i am happy with my tricycle thanks. Experiences are not my cup of tea. They are a bit like cheap thrills in the fairground imo. I prefer the more tried and tested ways, as the chinese say, "slowly slowly catchee monkey!"

There is magic all around you. If you cannot see it now, no matter what skills you acquire, you still wont see it. Look deeply into your own being. Cant you see the miracle at work ceaselessly? It does not require any special skills to recognize this. Just by looking deeply, and to stay with this inquiry is enough. But its not that easy is it? People get easily distracted. So the first thing is to learn how not to be distracted. When you can attain this basic skill, then you will see that all life is a miraculous play, unfolding every single moment. Only then will the other skills have meaning, and will be appreciated. There has to be mindfulness first and foremost. Without this mindfulness, this sharp appreciation for the little magical displays happening daily, moment to moment, it will be difficult to handle the bigger magic. This is why there are not many who possess the bigger magic. They cannot even begin to see the small magic yet. This is called the nature of magic sustaining itself. If you look deeply, the same principles apply to everything in life. First we need to learn to handle the small magic, to respect it, and not overlook it, or take it for granted. Then the passion can grow. When it does, we will naturally see the bigger miracles, the power comes slowly, when you begin to adapt to the responsibilities of it. Its like any other form of training, be it learning to cook, to weight-lift etc. The principle is all the same. Find the

Drew, with all due respect, in spite of your brilliant 23rd century mind, i think you are well-stuck with your obsession around this Full Lotus thing. If ever rebirth is a reality, i'd say in your past life you were some hermit who spent 50 years sitting in some cave obsessing over this posture, and carried the seeds over to this life, still unable to shake it off. Looks like its gonna be another re-run in your next life buddy. Be prepared!

My understanding is that Consciousness is beyond existence or non-existence. For want of a description, i think the closest one i can think of is Ground of Being. So one can say the Ground is Consciousness, and that which sustains Being is awareness. This is just my opinion. Just want to say thanks to Xabir and L7 for a most interesting exchange. The poem from Dwai was cool, so appreciation for that as well.

Peace is wonderful Marblehead. Thats why you never read posts by Buddhists arrogantly belittling Taoism or any other worthwhile philosophies. Disagreeing, yes - can be constructive, though not always. By all means point out the reasons for disagreeing. where is the justification for belittling and demeaning the man behind the most peaceful religion ever? was he feeling bored or what? utter nonsense. and its not the first time too, btw.

Is what you mentioned here performed as some kind of ritual, like some gathering where everyone gets together and then someone will say, alright boys and girls, today we are going to practice a bit of surrendering, and the group goes, "Yes, teacher, we will ritualize and learn how to surrender at this sacred gathering", or is it a personal relationship with your Source, which btw can include a bearded persona, or even a bearded persona with a thousand arms, but not necessarily so, where you are surrendering at every moment? what happens to a person after he or she has surrendered everything? Stripped of all pretenses, conditions etc? what remains of such a person? I want to learn please.
  19. Is there an objective world?

That which is known can no longer be termed 'unconditioned'. Whatever is known is necessarily past. As you have mentioned elsewhere, somewhere, there are no stages. There is, however, the state of 'knowing', which is always in the present. Thats why i never agree with those who hide behind their experiences, which is nothing but a bunch of old memories. Imagine learning from someone who is forever stuck in the past?
  20. KAP

I am curious about two things -- one, to know what you have surrendered, and the benefits of this surrendering. Btw, is learning to surrender part of the KAP curriculum?

  22. Consider perhaps the gods stole the missing pair of chromosomes? Thats like taking away our independence, so we will have to forever strife to be like them, but somehow never getting there, so endlessly heads are bowed in veneration, with the hope that they will somehow bestow upon us the grace of wholeness? After all, if we were complete, heaven could end up a pretty desolate place, and the gods will be deprived of regular entertainment, albeit nowadays most of it is pay-per-view, mind you! Poor gods.

It is well-accepted that the Diamond Sutra, which is the world's earliest dated printed book, is the most profound Buddhist discourse on the understanding of 'self'.
