eating can (should) be a form of meditation, yes? In all things cultivate mindfulness. With this, very little will go wrong, and niggling doubts about what is right to do, or wrong not to do, or right not to do, or wrong to do... these will not even arise. With mindfulness comes gentleness and composure - these 2 qualities combined, trust in oneself develops unhindered, so no matter if one meditates or not, equilibrium is maintained effortlessly. At that level of awareness, meditating and not meditating is harmonised. One who resides in a harmonious disposition tends to conduct body, speech and mind in the direction of moderation. Shoulds and shouldn'ts, at this juncture, become useless words.

Mandala offering is very much part of ngondro, which is a foundational practice. Its not about offering love and light, or heat and pain. https://clearemptymind.com/2015/01/21/mandala-offering-ngondro/ From your words, it appears that you have yet to fully grasp the significance of mandala offering practice - meanwhile, information or advice you are giving others may therefore be inaccurate and may result in confusion and worst, obtaining negative karma as a result. Buddhist tantra is a very specific set of practices and precision is very much prioritised. Even after 20 or so years being a student of Buddhist tantra, I still would not attempt to advice others on how to perform certain core practices, especially over the internet. -

Hi qicat - Are you quite sure that is your understanding of the practice of mandala offering? Isn't it one's merits that are offered? im only asking to make sure your approach to ngondro is not based off incorrect understanding. -

Isnt inquiry a form of meditation? There is no validity to the statement that Karma Yoga is the fastest path (to... liberation, im guessing). It is a method of expedience, no more potent than Jnana and Bhakti. -

I believe only non-contemplative traditions will put aside meditation as a vital prerequisite. Having said that, i can't think of any authentic non-contemplative spiritual tradition. -

Only views that are anchored in extremes are relative. Pull up the imaginary anchor, free the senses from labels and habitual tendencies, and a whole new vista of timeless awareness opens up. However, there are, though rare, some who tend towards a completely open and light approach to views, a maybe/maybe not attitude. I find this to be a workable state of being promoting a smooth passage to thusness.

Its habitual to view matter as existent. This is quite valid, since most people only make use of their gross senses to relate to the world. So an argument or proposal that originates from a subtler source of knowing or experience will always be rejected by the group who relies primarily on gross sensations to argue for matters' existence. A red rose can only be perceived by those who know what non-red is. For those who have no idea of what non-red is, it is impossible for them to formulate the colour 'red' in their mind. The same principle applies to every other sensate perception.

I will view most of these individuals as opinionated, like everyone else basically, but i will not go so far as to label them fakes. Almost everyone has a message to share. For some, holy book in hand, they stand on street corners and yell at the top of the their voice a message purportedly from God, others head to the park each Saturday afternoon and stand on wooden crates to deliver a message of defiance and doom, or one of hope and beauty, yet some others in this new age choose a more digital platform to present themselves with an opportunity to learn... about themselves, most of all. Richard Bach, in The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah, said, "We teach best what we most need to learn." sometimes this can resound ever so true. Remembering words like these can help stave cynicism. Cynicism is best avoided for those who journey within.

So when consciousness is mentioned, its worth taking into consideration there are various consciousnesses, each relating to one or a *matriculated combination of two or more of the sense doors. you see, the impact of these questions will be very much lessened had you grounded your knowledge by actually doing the prelims (ngondro) for say 5 years, and done a full year's in-house retreat after. This will crystallize the process and then only will your Dzogchen empowerment, together with the samayas, bestow a more authentic meaning as a practitioner. Right now, reading your take above, it appears (I could be mistaken of course) that you had a mere whiff, a distance from the house, of something baking, but keeps you guessing whether whats in the oven is a Madeira cake, a tray of cupcakes, croissants or muffins. A fully-fledged Dzogchen practitioner (meaning one who has done the above - bolded) tend to have unwavering clarity insofar as transmissions and the View is concerned.
