  1. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

I am looking on amazon for Jiddu Krishnamurti I haven't heard of him before but I am interested in his works from their titles and reviews. I would like to ask why you are recommending them to me? This could help me understand a little what you have gained from them and why you would think that I could benefit. I would also like to ask which of his books you would recommend because he has published a lot of work and I don't know where to dip my toe in. I was trying to get rid of stuff but it seems that every 3 books I sell, I buy another. Thanks xuesheng
  2. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

Good post xuesheng. Absolutely correct. If you become an -ist, -um, -ian then you have put yourself in a box that you can no longer see out of. Same goes for -ism's. I thought I was a Taoist until I started listening to Alan Watts. Then I thought am I a Buddhist? Then I realised that all these teachings were trying to show me the same thing but in a different way. Its like trying to understand what an elephant is whilst blindfolded and only feeling the tail. You then move round the front and feel the trunk. Eventually you feel everything of the elephant. And you realise there are some things that are best left alone. Blinkered religion is the cause of many a war. Currently I am reading the Qu'ran trying to understand a little more about cultural events. A lot has been taken out of context. After that I plan to read the other great books. Just out of curiosity. I am not looking to convert to anything. I am just trying to get a better feel for the elephant.
  3. suggestions for the recipe of my growth?

People may suggest more meditation or other esoteric arts and they have their place. I think doing more meditation will make you aspire to these things you want but not give them to you: Less self conscious more considerate more loving more confident better decision maker good vibed less clumsy quick thinking humourishly clever Have you tried volunteering? Being around those that are less fortunate than yourself is very humbling. Its also great for confidence as you help and support them. It affirms that you are valuable and that people need you. Decisions have to be well thought out as they affect the person directly. It is great for social skill as you mix with different walks of life. I can recommend Anthony Robbins as a great life coach. get some of his CD's and they will help you shape your life. Also Hypnosis CD's like Paul McKenna can help too. reading can help. Reading books on personal development and spirituality can shape your soul. But I think the volunteering is the best way.
  4. A man dies

Death fascinates me. I have no understanding of it. Sometimes I fear it and sometimes I wish for it. The story was beyond my understanding. So I keep searching, so that I can understand it. If anyone can elaborate or discuss the story i would be really grateful.
  5. Taiji tire training

This was shown in the film Tai Chi Master aka twin warrior.
  6. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

1 month of Jing retention! I can't last a week. What happened to you during this month? After a couple of days I am crawling up the wall, can't think straight at all and my groin feels like it has masses of energy pulsing in there. Not a comfortable feeling at all. I think we are over exposed to sex. All of the advertising and television stimulates our sexual desires. I think without this our sex drives would be much less. Do you think the peasants of old were at it as much as we are?
  7. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

For a Taoist this guy has anger issues I really wish you all the best Brian. Nothing more to say.
  8. Taiji tire training

Hi Brian, That's a really good method you have there. Most of the equipment out there is for striking e.g. heavy bags. They are really difficult to practice Jin against. They are not like people. The bags move and wobble all over the place. I have practised Jin against a wall without emitting it of course but just feeling root and connection throughout the body to align myself correctly. Jin feel completely different from a strike. So it needs to be trained differently. I have also seen this technique on a BBC video release called 'Mind, Body and Kick Ass moves'. This is where Chris Crudelli explores the martial arts. Your training technique is quite rare and I doubt if many Taiji instructors in the UK are practising it. But it is an excellent training method. I would like to add it to my training eventually.

Taobums growth and development = Vaginal deodorant ????????????
  10. tantric films

Spring, Summer,, really is an amazing film. Cant really watch it munching pop corn and sipping coke. Best watched in a dark room. needs concentration and thought. Any other similar films to recommend?
  11. Tao Bums Forum - Growth and development

I would like to see a Kunlun forum with stickies that give an intro and experiences then the open forum. I have no idea what Kunlun is apart from a quick browse at their website. So if I could have something like this it would either interest me to start practice of decide that its not for me. It would be nice for me also if there were taiji forums, meditation forums, and discussions on Dao De Jing. That way I can decide which one I fancy entering. At the moment I visit and see whats happening in the "Taoist Discussion" forum. Most of which I have no interest in. It would be good if moderation was given to long time members and respected people in their fields of practice. So we can weed out the trash and keep it relevant. Hopefully not too self censoring as I have noticed on a few forums my topics disappearing when I have thought them perfectly relevant. Keeping it on topic and civil is a must. By all means lets have an argument with relevant points but when it turns to a slanging match simply close the topic. This forum is too big for only a few people to moderate. I think it needs our help to grow and prosper to become the best Taoist source on the internet. I hope those in charge are good enough to take this into consideration as I like the forum and there are some really good people on here. It would be a shame for them to disappear.
  12. the word "Dao" has nothing to do with "warriors"

Where was that link for definitions of Trolls? Will we get a ban/spam icon eventually? Perhaps the "Taoist Discussion" forum needs to be broken into separate sections so it is easier to navigate if you are looking for information or help. This would be better than the run of random posts. I saw we have over 7,000 members now and the atmosphere is turning a little sour. A review of the forum is much needed.
  13. Annoying people

I have seen on some forums they have 'Ban' and 'spam' Icons. Perhaps something similar that we can use? 'Troll' and 'flame' icons? This way we don't have to say anything just press the icon. A picture paints a thousand words
  14. Perfect answer. The more you practice QiGong etc, things get a little odd. Dejavou being one of them. Perhaps not that everything is predetermined but that everything is interconnected. So think if you were for those moments connected to everything you would have dejavou because you would know what people are thinking and will say. This is why we practice QiGong and Meditation in martial arts. If I can sense what my opponent will do before he acts, I will act first. That and having no blockages keeps me fluid in movement and mind.
  15. What is your favorite Taijiquan book?

I am surprised Dr. Yang hasn't been mentioned yet. I use his work as a manual for training. Its absolutely indispensable. I think the other works mentioned here are more esoteric. I believe Jou Tsung Hwa was a teacher of Dr. Yang? I plan to get more into the esoteric side as I develop the martial. I am making good progress with it as I also train in JuJitsu and my sensei commended me this week on my sparring skills. I have been training my sparring using Taiji techniques and theory. I successfully managed to throw a blackbelt down with 'brush left knee and push forward'. Problem was I upset the black belt and he nearly ripped me in half with a throw after that.
  16. different teachingsTaiji

Qi Gong is essential to Taiji, both work together to create a calm mind and connected body to make a good martial artist. Nei Gong - Internal cultivation is also essential. meditation increases focus, concentration and chi to make a good martial artist. Also and most importantly it balances Taiji practice with Yang in Qi Gong and Taiji, and Yin in Meditation creating a complete learning system for spiritual cultivation and personal development. Read and study widely and it will all open up for you.
  17. Mabu stance

In my opinion the photo shows ma bu over done. I think beyond a certain level when you sink down it goes from training root to damaging your knees. It just looks good. Impressive for WuShu demonstrations though. The point of ma bu is to develop rooting for Jin. I have found the best way to develop rooting and Jin is through coiling Qi Gong. There you learn to connect the body and find your root. Then you can sink your chi and and use your root to emit fa jin.
  18. Master Dong Yang Internal Sword

Sorry but I have to stir this one up. When I saw the vid I thought the form looked sloppy. The Jian wobbled a bit and was sometimes over extended. It was weird how it looked like a mis-match of styles. Too fast for Yang style but similar in forms. Different forms for Chen Style. I didn't recognise it at all. Achievement of Dao does not equal martial ability. Besides what is there to achieve in Dao? To achieve anything 'Dao' is too miss the point entirely. I didn't want to comment out of politeness but after someone concurred with my opinion I thought it ok to post. Besides, It turns my stomach when students slavishly follow a teacher and declare him master of everything and this should be pointed out. The guy is teaching Daoism for no doubt a reasonable fee and has tacked Taiji on to his list of skills to expand his business. Good luck to him. But his Jian form clearly demonstrates his level of Taji Jian. The words jack of all trades, master of none spring to mind. No offence meant for anyone, just pointing out he is no master in Taiji Jian.
  19. Hi, I practice Taiji, Qi Gong and Meditation but I am having a problem. I feel that normally my energy levels are quite low but when I practice, my energy goes through the roof. This is the problem. A short while after practice i feel like I have been plugged into the mains there is so much energy pulsating around my body. After training I find it hard to sleep and also focus. I also feel like there is an incredible amount of energy channelled to my testicles. It becomes really distracting to the point where I need to release the energy i.e. ejaculate just to calm my body down. Most of the time I am not even sexually aroused I just need to let the steam off of what feels like a pressure cooker. About half an hour later my energy returns to its normal lethargic self. Which seems a waste of training. I would like to raise my energy levels but not to the point where I am climbing up the walls. What I want to ask is how can I raise my energy levels and at the same time adjust my body's tolerance to it? I guess its just like running a large battery through a thin wire. It overheats. I need to have thicker wire to accommodate a larger battery. I just don't know how to do this. Has anyone else experienced this, or have some advice?
  20. Coping with major energy changes - How do I?

I burn a lot of the energy off! I run 3.2miles every other day, swim once a week and Jujitsu on Fridays! Out side of normal Taiji, Qi Gong, Meditation I am also training with my brother-in-law martial arts (sparring, foot-work, etc). Perhaps more yin training as earlier suggested may help. Too much Yang work. A bit more meditation. I let my chi sink tonight after QiGong and Tai Ji. I have been slipping with the closing/sinking at the end and have hurried that and gone off to do other things. I now realise that the closing is also very important. I am going to pay more attention to this thanks to forum members suggestions.
  21. Coping with major energy changes - How do I?

Brings me to wondering how it effects a woman when this energy is passed to her through a males ejaculation? It would be much more energised than normal sperm. Would it be absorbed and nourish the woman? Perhaps that is why some spiritual leaders turn into nuts and insist on humping everything in sight
  22. Coping with major energy changes - How do I?

I use Dr. Yang Jwing Ming's Taiji Qi Gong and simple empty-mind meditation. So its nothing too deep or specific. I also use a lot of self-hypnosis tapes for healing. With cutting resistors and capacitors out. Would this be changing diet, more exercise?
  23. Coping with major energy changes - How do I?

I can imagine how this may work. It would circulate the energy and disperse it throughout the body. I will have a go next time it happens. Thanks
  24. Coping with major energy changes - How do I?

Hi Darin, I am 26. I have started to change my diet to balance things out. I have got extra energy from this also. I am working on slow release vegetarian energy foods so I get a nice balance of energy. This also is compounding the problem a little because of being used to a life time of a certain energy level. Then a lifestyle change of food and energy exercise has revved that energy level up and my body is having trouble adjusting to it.
  25. Iron Palm and Kunlun

Hi, I have also done Iron Palm training. It was for Taiji not Shaolin. I did quite a bit of research learning about methods and techniques. Qi Can be led to the palms as in the same method for striking. In Taiji it is lead to the palms to emit Jin so it can also be lead practising iron palm. This would be toughening your arms and getting used to leading Qi. I remember reading that Iron palm can lead to qi stagnation even with using Jow. This can lead to diseased liver, problems with eyesight etc. I am no expert on this I just remember reading about it. Its probably best to speak to an acupuncturist.
