we could ponder that for awhile...like what if the Self manifested, is the Self already and always manifested, how can the Self manifest, is the Self never not manifest even though veiled, what becomes of the tattvas when the Self manifests, etc. etc.

agreed for our human and soul selves, but I used the term "Self" in reference to its use in the Upanishads

ok, the potential idea is a way to get some kind of working handle, so to speak, but I'd say that the use of that term does not mean the Self lacks in any way such as in not yet fulfilling or reaching its potential...or of Itself evolving to complete its potential.

not so much debate in and per the Upanishads as revealed scripture from great Rishis, but in other ways yes...and we could get into with and without categories... or tattvas

btw, I'd say it does not get any simpler than the Self, so simple that It is not found in any form or state of mind local, universal, big or otherwise.

umm, a Zen guy I listened to used the term "big mind", which sounds like your universal mind...so are you adding Buddhism to mix also?

does not really matter to you (except perhaps academically) if I"m sure, what really matters to you is if you are sure...or not. Which I see as applicable to all of us along such lines

relative truths are found in the mind (somewhere) while the Truth is not -just as it is implied that the Great Mystery/Tao is not found there either per the saying of, "the Tao that can be named is not..."

so I'd say that "creation" or emanation does come out of no-thing which is not nothing, it is just nothing that we can nail down with our minds or the powers of the mind. (using an analogy not unlike the magnetic field above which the human mind is not normally aware of)

oh they exist alright, and they do not suffer fools lightly but can also be unexpectedly compassionate. As I've said before I'm not Buddhist although I appreciate parts of it....but Atman is proven for me
