Prior to recieving my first mentors transmission he gave me a lot of verbal instruction on circulation, one of the analogies he used was refining a huge boulder down to very fine powder. That with each breath there should be a constant flow that refines the work of the body into it's most primary components. After a period of time the chi will flow easier and less restricted, akin to working the boulders down to rocks, then gravel, then pebbles, grout, and finally a fine powder. He explained to me at this point that it is not so much that you are increasing your capacity for energy, or "getting more of it" rather your natural reserve functions to it's fullest potential, ie removing the many many spaces between the rocks as you reduce them to sand, naturally the sand would break down and you would be able to put more sand in the same space as a fewer volume of rocks would fit.

To cultivate is an act of tending nurturing what is natural into a refined state. There are a lot of gung people using farming analogies; personally I don't just gather the fruit, I eat it!

without practice there are many natural openings and closings the body does everyday week month and year. phases perhaps, which are revealed through observation. with practice after observation a coordination of opening and closing events produces synquences of movement that are akin to a symphony in the body, so instead of experiencing small windows now and then, you coordinate those windows into the moments of focused practice in which the mind, body and spirit unify and are in harmony. In these states thinking becomes easier, movement effortless, and rest deep and peaceful.

Train your kung fu at this time, apply your "inner" work to an "external" routine. I don't care if it's arranging flowers, practice something that forces you to apply your energy sensations to an objective task, noticing the sensations is worthless outside of observational ques and signposts, noting the sesnations as a que to begin a different phase of practice will serve you endlessly.

You do not "get more" of it but refine your awareness (yi) of what you pocess innately. It is a misconception that anyone pocesses more chi than anyone else.

I've provided a list in which you can compare your sounds. There seems to be a difference between organ and cavity sounds. Chi Gung; the art of tuning all pitches complimentary to the human organism.

Integrate in a physical routine that forces you to incorporate your chi gung breathing. Martial art is good for this. You'll work more effectively, enjoy your food and sleep deeper.

What he is describing is prenatal breath. Usually the metabolism slows way down when this happens and the pracitioners breathing aparatus will appear still.
