  4. Good progress. Keep it up. An alternating menu o f warmup sets is nice. Remember to stretch out anything that feels tight. If you have the time to do this set routinely I would focus on continuity of practice first and add / subtract from the formula as you settle into your routine. If your running an mco do it after your routine or better yet in sync w/ whatever your daily cycle. It's best to practice abdominal breathing at this point until the sensation of heat is experienced in tan tien, then proceed. No force is needed, keep the attention on the breath, the idea or imagination is an empti lense clearly focused. Train smarter, rest deeper, again good work. Dave
  5. .03c Tip: The second stage of long breathing practice is to elongate the top and bottom of the changeover in hope of breathing for real. 6. Yiquan, Stance Training, Standing Meditation

I like music for moving forms, natural sounds or silence for stillness. Awareness of natural motion entrains natural motions. Walking through the sensory realm during stillness meditation is natural as the body remembers what is real and what is illusion and begins the relaxation response to the work. As long as the mind is engaged is letting go of dialog and walks through the 5 senses resulting either in synthenasia or subject object dissolution the rest matters not. This is not a state of dissassociation, but one of super-association. Get out of your head and the body will make sense of it. Turtles draw inwards, Cranes take flight. Listen to the way wind walks through trees Watch ways trees bend and sway Feel the same earth under stays For you and I to wander upon and pray We rise up to fall upon wonder and play
  7. Yiquan, Stance Training, Standing Meditation

It's not cheating to use your mind. The body is music.
  8. Chi kung and insanity

Warmup w/ squats. Distribute bodyweight evenly. shoulder width (parrallel feet) or wider (feet can open to 45 deg) Lift the arches inhale down, relax into alignment exhale up. Knees over feet, not past the toe. There is a reason why there are physical exercises that accompany cultivation exercises. pores should open. Practice correct wuji during chi gung etc, open kua with stance work or good rooting in taiji ie other gungfu practice. Follow the taji principles in practice. Cooldown afterwards. Walking or slow soft formwork. tapping on or working out knots or kinks. then silence and long breathing. pores should close up.

Pranaman, Seems like your asking the right questions. Turning the waterwheels. Keep it up. Dave

  12. Taijiquan and Conscious Communication.

A solid practice routine will reverse that, and help lubricate communication as well. The non-essentials will fall away. Sweat a conversation.

BTT- Perhaps some classical texts that reference "packing" ?
  15. Age started?

18 is a good age to start. plenty of time to build a foundation that will last a lifetime. less distractions by being out of school, and motivation to observe and learn from success and failure. I started about the same age. Good times. Dave
  16. weird that money is holding me back....

After standing and conditioning is a great time to practice form, you're essentially 'warmed up' for it at that point and the body will naturally correct many "mistakes" that are really just postural kinks getting worked out... this is also connected to why 'standing' is a foundation exercise, as the basic wuji posture manifests in all the taiji movements. A little bit each day it better than a lot once a week. After standing start S L O W... If you continue in your martial arts training you will get over it. Keep it up. Push Hands. Conditioning. Work on memorizing your form (that is also concentration training that counters monkey mind) Careful w/ "escapism". These worlds are VERY connected, focus on the PHYSICAL benefits of your training and not 'escape' through mystical experience. FEEL what is going on in your body, enjoy the benefits of a healthier lifestyle, you deserve it! As you progress new doorways of experience will naturally open for you. Regards, Dave
  17. weird that money is holding me back....

Sometimes what comes out in an hour of practice/classtime can be more valuable than days on end of 'talking it out'. I'm not taking away from the value of working through things, especially when you can talk openly w/ someone you trust, or someone your paying to trust... but honestly, when you can break yourself down to appreication of the basics like food, water and good rest, through something simple like physical training... ... it could be as simple as getting a deeper breath than ever before. Keep it up. Taiji is good to practice everyday because it's focus is not on faster/stronger. You can practice everyday, we eat, sleep and move around everday, we can practice everday, feel better everyday. Your learning to ride the natural highs and lows, taiji & chigung work with the bare essentials, starting from nothing. Dave
  18. what is Hsing-I?

It's not stupid of you Pranaman considering. If the other forum members were PRESENT for your class they would understand... take it as it comes, relax into your practice, work hard when you need to, relax and OBSERVE when you need to... there is a time and place to ask questions, and a time and place to recieve instruction and correction.

Xuesheng, thanks for the additional photo ref. Wow. Cool photo. I notice foot alignment effects the hip opening. Leading with the fingers. Oolong, Is this the same Sifu Moy that founded the Taoist Tai Chi Society? I have had the honor of practicing with at least one teacher from his line. Oolong perhaps you remember you sent me some Wudang videos including the 108 while I was living in the mountains last year?

  23. Cavity and Organ Sounds

The subvocal to vocal range is curious... as hearing the sound dissolves into feeling the sound "piercing" the veil between subvocal to vocal w/ consonant-vowel-consonant combination's. Also the harmonic intervals in which the pitch "breaks" like the precibus crest of a wave are felt-heard. In the vocal range this is experienced as a kind of body timbre harmony. What is easy to realize in this method or approach to exploration is how often we are actually subvocalizing our internal thought dialog. Pause anytime you are thinking to yourself and observe your throat... ... resv4more ...
