100 days of unbroken practice is the word of mouth following psychophysical meditative practice, ie standing stake, pile standing, zen standing. In this way the student experiences the benefits of speeding up or slowing down their daily metabolic cycles. belly breath takes 3 days for the battery to reach 0 balance accompany breathing practice w/ gung (work) develop a daily routine (sounds like something teacher has you doing) if you havn't already figure out the high and low tide of your chi cycle and practice. Like Who Drew? It's a "leading" question. My references to a "step by step" opening process leading towards "full lotus" are from my personal experiences. There is definitive benefit from "working" towards this posture, even if one never fully reaches the bound version. The proper opening steps really effect the pelvis, legs and lower back dramatically. My intention is to encourage folks who think they are not flexible enough to begin the process one leg at a time, instead of elevating my personal practice above others by saying "I can".
-
It's pre-Buddhism, pre-Hindu, pre-Shivism...
-
For less flexible people this could simply be cross one leg over into a fig-4 w/ the ankle bone resting on top of the quad while sitting on the edge of a chair, reach forward w/ your chin, keeping the spine erect. One side at a time while intentionally belly breathing w/ good posture. Also butterfly position w/ the back elongated/flat by reaching the chin for the tips of the toes while pushing the belly button outwards slightly. There are a lot of ways. Seek commonalities.

Ming Mien can be open while sitting and standing. Standing you can feel out weight shifting effects on send/recieve activity metabolism. Sitting you can feel the body go into "rest" metabolism.

Need more field trips and outdoor schools like this. Nice summary Ian!

About as artistic as a rocker destroying their guitar. I can understand getting fed up with the hummm... 2:40 before an able body negotiated the terrain.

Ahhh. The high points. Don't forget the low glows as well. Practice effects body chemistry.

Another clue is slowing it down during his transitions, wuji and the rest of the taiji principles in fluid motiion and application. Really nice well rounded movement. Enjoy seeing the classical influences in contemporary application. Clean horizontal movement, 45's & 90's, counter rotational spiraling, looks like home base from the 19.50S exodus.

What we need is a Tao Bums Guide Service.

Looking for that special blend of flavors yes? slow to fast, fast to slow. kiss. keep it simple... don't over complicate it, start w/ something like taichi and look for the commonalities instead of differences, differences only highly commonalities.

How one handles their sword. Live by the sword die by the sword.

Until sung/song. Then movement originates from wuji.

It's actually probably very connected. Especially if your standing there. It's a seasoned school. It's kinda like a shock to the physiology. Taichi is full of unconventional movement. Here's to getting rid of the ring rust.
