  1. Killing me softly

I had multiple teachers tell me over the years while training "relax your face"... it seems to have a twofold forked meaning. In martial terms you do not give away your thoughts and plans with expectations or telegraphing, in healing terms the face is a wonderful picture window. oops that was suppose to be a pm 889 523 745 Good training to you, Spectrum

  4. I believe this demonstration has great merit: It's like he's dancing in a river. This is so so so beautiful of a treasure. there is energetic significance because hes dropped into suspension... look at how during the rollback deflect punch sequence his head does not move vertically, it is pivoting on the axis of wuji, even horizontal transition his hands and feet orbiting like planets around the sun of his tan tien, even as his weight shifts L/R, forward & back. Absolutely swingin gung fu! Is this what kunlun formless movement looks like? I have seen this before, it's a window into a classical culture past, come to life through living the art! I have one reservation. He stops his form at certain points, in which are slightly redeemed by them seeming to be postural bookmarks, but usually there is no stopping, even movement flows into one another until you are where you started. 0:00 0:05 wuji power source opening flatland :06-:09 wuji yin yang taiji 0:10 Fist Under Elbow Stance 0:11 Golden Cock : One Legged K 1 K Y ? 0:27 seems like a san ti stance, trinity stance, riding the ostrich? 0:28 rollback 0:29 deflect 0:30 swinging parry of gung 0:31 palm (flower hides under leaf?) 0:32 apparent withdraw 0:33 single whipped horse stance from earth and heaven my golly golden this man is a chinese gee 0:40 whats he riding this time? 0:42 look how his top palm changes from yin to yang, the transition of the hand wrist forearm 0:44 reaching into some foreward windmills 0:50 yin/yang exchange places into hand under elbow above head wow 0:55-60 did you see that? 1:03 White Crane Spreads Wings 1:08 guided back to center 1:11 a second opening? spiraling 3 levels, upper, middle, lower, 1:17 fan through back 1:28 did you see how he transitioned into Striking the Tiger??!?! 18. <sigh> I apologize for the Johnny Apple seed allegory. It was only that. I practice this. I erred in discnerment, sucked into the allegorical void perhaps? I have clawed my way back to the event horizon... It's the internal drama that we seek to resolve, it goes inside out, it comes outside in. we rev9lve, sp1n, lo0k for new angles of approach. Absorb, Dissolve. Find anything and reflect upon it's inter-related perfection. why? for love ! wshy relate ? for love ! That's getting to the the heart of it. We're all guts and pain of love hurts. Because it's so real. We are human beings, storys in motion, divine dramas being played by us and the people around us. It's horrible and divine at the same time. We Love. Watering a lover w/ the water of the soul, the truth is known at once together. Without the hearth of sharing I know nothing. A womans heart is to be respected and approached as a temple for prayer. It is hopeful perhaps by all men who love, that his devotion and accompanying quests raise the standard by which the lady wishes. Wishes do come true. Again, humbly apologize and step down from the patriarchial soapbox. Spectrum

One Legged Crane to Sitting Eagle Who Weighs The Whole? Look Above, Look Below “Keep Your Eye Upon the Donut” (Optimist’s Creed) The Mayflower coffee and donut shops (1930s-1970s) used this "Optimist's Creed" as its motto. The poem pre-dates the Mayflower. 15 April 1904, New York Sun, pg. 6, col. 5: Their Points of View. In conclusion I quote the following gem of philosophy, which not only discloses a truly Aristotelian understanding but also relegates the hole to its rightful place: As you ramble on through life, brother, Whatever be your goal, Keep your eye upon the doughnut And not upon the hole. ZOLTAN GOTTLIEB, New York, Dec. 16, 1930. 12 October 1953, Los Angeles Times, pg. 2: "Remember the doughnut shop that once was at Broadway and 8th St.? On the outside of the building this little ditty: "As you journey on through life, brother, whatever be your goal, keep your eye upon the doughnut, and not upon the hole." - L. F. Way back in 1932, FDR and Herbert Hoover added a homey touch to their campaigns by eating doughnuts at whistle-stop rallies. WIth the U.S. in the depths of a depression, both candidates, by coincidence, worked the "Optimists' Creed" into their speeches on several occasions... As you ramble on thru life, brother, Whatever be your goal, Keep your eye upon the doughnut, And not upon the hole! 6 May 1981, New York Times, pg. C4: How Doughnuts Won America By SALLY L. STEINBERG (...) When I was a child we always had boxes of doughnuts from the Mayflower coffee shops my grandfather had started. The doughnuts wore icing costumes as pink as ballet tutus, as green as leprechauns, and they were delicious. On the box was a quaint insignia of two men in medieval jester's outfits, back to back, looking out at the doughnuts they held, one fat, the othe thin. Old-style print between them said: "As you ramble on through life, brother,/ Whatever be your goal,/ Keep your eye upon the doughnut,/ And not upon the hole." This poem, found in an old book, was my grandfather's philosophy. 8 April 1992, New York Times, pg. C14: Bygone Food, Chock Full o' Memories On the other hand, most fans of the Mayflower shops best remember whole doughnuts, not only because of the company's slogan: "As you ramble through life, keep your eye on the doughnut and not on the hole." The texture, the marriage of soft and crisp - have the Mayflower doughnuts ever been bettered? All kinds of people think not. 28 February 1999, New York Times, pg. CY2: F.Y.I. Eyes on the Doughnut Q. Many years ago, after ice skating in Central Park, my parents would take my brother, my sister and me to a little coffee shop on the southeast corner of 59th Street and Fifth Avenue. On the wall were these words: As you ramble on through life, brother,/Whatever be your goal,/Keep your eye upon the doughnut,/And not upon the hole. Why? A. You were in a Mayflower Doughnut shop, one of the last in the city, actually, and that bit of doggerel was the personal motto of the founder, Adolph Levitt. Known as the Optimist's Creed, the words were printed on each box of doughnuts sold in the Mayflower shops, where they were framed by two cartoon jesters, one frowning at a thin doughnut with a large hole, the other grinning at a plump one with almost no hole at all. Mr. Levitt, an immigrant from Russia, first saw the anonymous verse in a picture frame he bought in a dime store, according to his granddaughter, Sally Levitt Seinberg. (...) ...in 1931 he opened the first Mayflower doughnut shop. (...) Mayflower shops, all bearing the Optimist's Creed, dotted the city for decades, but had all but disappeared by the 1970's. Sifu Rob's sticks are really neat for simple exercises like this, they kinda "twirl" in your hand as you move through movements in ways that suggest the path of least resistance. I won't say they are a replacement for quality chi gung or gung fu practice, especially not the value of a practice partner, but for people who feel compelled to "tinker" in their off time, like any jazz player, it's a fun way to diddle w/ your noodle, and just feel around w/o preconceived notions of what it should be/feel/experienced like. There are many mediums to practice, for instance, holding the teacups, in a pool, just FEELS different, than the thin air. PM your snail mail I'll request some stick samples be sent your way to experiment with. Spectrum

Interesting juxtapositions. "To how many places does nature carry out PI when she makes each successive bubble in the white-cresting surf of each successive wave before nature finds out that PI can never be resolved?... And at what moment in the making of each separate bubble in the Universe does nature decide to terminate her eternally frustrated calculating and instead turn out a fake sphere? I answered myself that I don't think nature is using PI or any of the irrational fraction constants of physics." -Buckminster Fuller (Synergetics II, p. 233).
