No matter. This is a thread on standing meditation and some dialog has started on the minds perceptions of "chi" in which I feel obligated to repond. "WuWei" can be a difficult thing to understand in relationship to kinesthetic sensations experienced in sensory deprivation environments. The turtle draws into it's shell. That is how hallucinations are resolved through inaction, instead of going crazy and compartmentalizing experience, fragmenting out and going nut, or much worse...getting reallllllly "normal", or what I call a dried up old prune, good for medicine and looooong term storage, but not much else, no art, no spontenaety, no virility. Realize the implications to not being able to blend navigation through all the senses. This would mean that deaf people shouldn't be able to "listen" to music through their body. Blind people shouldn't be able to "feel" around, or use echo location methods w/ their voice for finding their way. Research: Phantom Limbs & OOBEs <- if this is also "not real" then there is no need to continue. If there is some sense of identification w/ this penom then please continue. The act of pressing against the wall is real. It is an act. A "sensation" produced in "kinesthetic space", what we call "feeling" (not to be confused w/ emotion), is also real. Even after our action has stopped, we feel it as real as an echo is to sound. So why does your arm "feel like" rising after pressing? Because your nervous system compensated... with ... what again? Oh, yeah, Nothing at all. The mind is nothing. Nothing at all. The echo is not your original call, it is your original call (act) in mirror opposite, coming back at you. It's nothing, and yet you hear it in diminishing return. Sooooooo Since it's not real, there is no reason to "go with", with this dualistic mindset, I bet there are a lot of things in life that arn't "real".... yet .... We are not talking about any old perceptions here, we are talking about body perceptions. Gut Feelings. If we play king of the mountain on a nice long log high above water, I bet that perceptions will play a key role in the outcome. We might not even tough and one of us might fall, or, on the other hand, there may be anything from a single touch, to a struggle. Words mean nothing, and everything. In a word, it comes to this. Real or Not Real doesn't matter, in Wuji, your thoughts effect the outcome of your strategy. Martial or Health, Safe Journey is not up for debate, it is Survival Instinct. Nice Exercise. When you remove your hands could you "go with" any of those "perceptions" with result? This is reverse placebo effect. Can you make one hand actually colder or hotter? Pragmatize life all you want, it doesn't take the magic or mystery away from it growing back through the seems of the cubed box science is staring out of. Hopefully you don't get goosebumps when your favorite song comes on the radio. You might "rationalize" the moment, and then it's gone. Poof. Like an illusion. The mind is indeed powerful. Placebe effects work both ways, seeker. Senioritis Strikes. Truth trascends the medium. Water says the same things the flowers say when you talk to them, the same thing a human body does when you touch it nicely instead of touching it harshly. Being a senior student in a school somewhere you should know these natural responses, this natural language... these things we share in the family of human beings? You could describe the experience, even creatively if you want. Can you do it in reverse? Spectrum

Hey Buddy, Scary Thoughts. What makes your hand feel like rising after you press the back of it against a wall for 2 min? Or... perhaps you don't feel that? Spectrum

From what I can discern so far it seems this spiral element is more consciously lended into the form only after the core movements are developed, once the core movements of footwork and hip orbiting is physically grasped, and can be manifested regularlly in pushing hands, the spiral extensions of the arm/hand movements become connected to the torso spring, and when "sung", is much more apparent to the practitioner, some might even call it common sense from dropping into a "ready" position, as the arms do seem to "fill in the spaces between" the static "13 postures" through routes of movement that are most effeicnt to move through, not "against", this is similar to any "fork" position in strategy that allows you to cycle and support your efforts at the same time. It's almost as if the form is meant as a guide to get the water in your body to cycle w/ gravity in certain intervals and routes that are condusive to tuning the functioning of the whole organism. Simply by fine tuning how the joints (structure) and muscles/ligaments (mind) are suspended together in "sung". There is a WIDE range of possible textures and stylistic differences. Ultimately though, a Solution of mind & body. Floating. Ready in Readilessness. Perhaps this is why a movement like grasp/comb sparrows/peacock tail is important to understanding the "vocabulary" of taichi, or wuji to discerning the effectiveness of martial art in general. Effortlessness is moreimportant than the apperance of "power". For instance the physical EXPERIENCE between WuJi and Empti/Full, can feel effortless, but timed correctly when someone has a grip on you, the movement story transforms the energy around, through their elbow. Yes. Start palm up. Hold a cup, imaginary or real. Rotate your hand palmup under your armpit Continue spiraling the hand outward and up[ward] in front of you To maintain the upright position and continue the spiral you must now spiral the hand in and down, returning to it's original position. You could say this is like the "wrist mobius" fig 8 of the arm. Experiment w/ one or botharms, in sequence or alternating. Once you feel coordinated w/ the basic pattern, lead the movements by rotating your hips, draw the hands through the movements from the center of yourself. Water loves to move in waves. Serving Tea? Keep the hand in a central columb and walk around in a circle while constantly reorienting your arm so as to not spill the tea! Spectrum

Curious what type of business? Gutters? Consider: Standing Upright, or Floating in the Ocean. Between this space, is the Beach. Travel in any medium is not travel between, it seems.... the music of the body in kind rhymes with the music of the mind. Movement, In Time. Space requires Navigational principles of Whole Body Mind. instantaneous beams omni om oooo mmnnn iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The other day I spiraled for like an hour straight, crazy kine, and when I found wuji again there was more movement than moving, it was like sitting in a jacuzzi tub. Didn't feel the same as if I was jogging for an hour, I'm glad I know the drills, the methods, etc, but I'm also glad I know how to carve that away in a practice on the beach. It's always nice after martial arts practice to just melt away into the ocean. Haaaaaaaaaaa

Dislocation is a effortlessly etheric spiral.

I've felt that before Peitro, don't worry, it's real. There are shortcuts, but the goal is to guide the chi w/ your yi first, before the movement physically starts. My teacher says similar. Movement starts in the mind, that doesn't mean it is "magic", but it is not visible externally. Spectrum

Watch how much this guys head does not move up and down much when he is moving horizontally. You would all be wise to observe this mans movement. It doesn't matter what style, it is his core movements that are refined. Spectrum

I like spirals too. Maybe sometime we can spiral together. This seems a common divergence between "martial" spiral seekers, and "health" or "spiritual" spiral seekers.... I empathize w/ your frustration here Buddy, but honestly, if someone doesn't want to do the two person work associated with wisdom, it will always just been "talking zen"... There is more effecient transfer of energy through spirals than just curves. Every move that works "effortlessly" is a compound of curves making up spirals. Even a jab and cross. The funny thing here is the space between the hyper sprituals who try to make something physical spiritual, and the hyper physicals who try to make something spiritual physical. Spectrum

PS - The Kunlun Martial Art demo has a lot of spirals init, kinda soft focus and watch the flow of the arms flow in spiral sequence that at least from my perspective are like finding a flower I didn't know existed. There are two single whips in the form in which one of them I hadn't seen before, and this is after searching through a lot of wudang material. Single whip is a good way to introduce the body to the concept of compression/tension spiraling. A set I was taught in the first 2 years was Holding the Teacups. Consider the 9 Palance Drills Spirlling on a larger scale, as Wuji is on a smaller scale.

No not limp, gung is never limp, even in wuji it is compression(relaxation)/tension complouts. Are there any limp points in your breath? Like complimentary couplets in poetic verse, the body is inter-related to itself. The body is music when it is relaxed and moving naturally. It is music when it's hitting homeruns and driving 300 yards, serving tennis, it's all in the wrist. The wrist guides the hand. The whole body is a hand. Once the movement starts in the wrist let the hand naturally flex into and out of the curves. You find it opening and curling at certain intervals, which sounds pruposefully vague, and if your flopping your wrist around hopefully you feel a fig 8 in there that the forearm rotates only 180 deg, for the wrist "universal joint" to fold. It's a moving mobius friend. Two is even more fun for one. The hips again, perplex with their mobius like nature. To demonstrate the body mobius, one must recipricate response to learn the proper way. Share and share alike. Find a partner dosi doe and away we go. Consider guiding intent directionally surfing the edge of the wrist between palm change possibilities. How would it feel in water? How would it feel in wind, would the rest of your body follow your wrist/hand carving through the edge of these mobiusspheres? There are endless possibilities here. But only One Center. One Chuan. One Hand. Tai Chi BaGua Hsing Yi have the common Mother of WuJi. Spectrum

You my friend are a seeker. It's obvious. You Feel. What is your body made of. Breath Releeeeeeeeasssssssse. Suspend. Float. Tie strings around each of your joints. Goto Wuji. Sink. That statue, that dance, that art. Before Now is Now. Where does energy change direction naturally in our body? O how the water flows sooOoo easy. Swift or Slow. Any static place has it's ins and outs, paths or routes. I'm starting to think that the common ground between martial and health chi gung is understanding how the conscious body interacts with this rather subconscious "negative space." By this I mean the vallys and dips of the body either static of in motion. The internation of these surfaces encompass our basic locomotion, and also reveal parts of the "mechanism" of successful effortless or "perfert move" techniques in martial art, and indeed in physical culture in general. Homeruns, et all. If there is one thing about the "flow" aspect of TaiChi and Chi Gung practice is the effects of the movement of water through these normally conditioned stagnant "blind spots" that also manifst as physical imparments of awareness. This is kinda experienced as a 360 buybble awareness in natural fight/flight or when your awareness is up in competition. But most peoples experience of this state is limited to those "times".... natural safe guards that are naturally attuned when we train physically. Part of the unique features of Taoist styles of martial art is there relationship to meditation. In Taoist terms, the relationship of Stillness to Motion, or of Motion to Stillness. There is a way. It is from the center of the circle to the edge again and kcab naiga. I can not tell you in words. I can tell you how it feels sometimes or dra3w how it looks. It brings me to tears to try and bring it into these bounds of words alone. I am sorry I have spent this much time doing it. Communication occurs on many levels when we consider the implications of continually dropping into the well to decsend to the calm yet dangerous waters of the abyss. Without heaven no man or woman would succeed. Without the Cross the Circle is Nothing. oxoxoxo 8 inside outside samething something sometimes looking for a breath of fresh air one is forced to walk until /\ the stagnant red dust is blown from the shoulders, finding yourself on a cliff in wind as free as a bird, limitless flight patterns. The formless form of birds in flight through rainbows rays ways. Common tongues reach ready vernaculars in peculair fashions contemporary and ancient.
