If you want to learn Wu Wei Dan Dao, you can ask me questions here.
zerostao replied to awaken's topic in Daoist Discussion
Please pardon my slightly off topic post here. Only slightly, IMO Many university classes I’ve had the great fortune of attending had Professors. They all did actually, some professed more adamantly than others. It was my choice to attend or not, to subject myself to a term I coined, the tyranny of professors. Example/ in creative writing class I was told what to write, didn’t seem right lol (at the time) TDB, ever since my arrival, and I’m certain it was always like this on TDB, was that “teachers” would appear, begin posting, start threads, 97% of them Professing adamantly, thus drawing blowback and criticism from members who were adamant too in disagreement, often leading to insults exchanged, “teachers” deciding to leave or in some instances walked to the gate because things flamed up and someone lost their cool. However we choose to look at this recurring type of event, I think that many bums sense a sense of loss had occurred. Think of all of the schools that once posted here that no longer do. I can say that one such school I sense will no longer post here, the majority will not miss. But I digress, and that is a rare exception, I think regarding sense of loss rather than setting something entirely used up by the curb for pickup, where it may find use somewhere else. I am certainly not referring to anything related to this thread. What can be done to prevent loss? Anyone has the choice to log onto any thread they choose or not. If a bum isn’t finding value, or it isn’t there cup of tea, why go to a thread like that? And just because one bum or several don’t see the value or validity, Or like that flavor of soy sauce, of any particular school or teacher doesn’t mean that some others look at it the same way. IMO There is an abundance of choices and that is a good thing. Makes sense to me, that bums would gravitate to the threads that suits their taste or where they happen to be along the path at that time. We all ain’t the same. Thank goodness. We have some that think fajin is some great accomplishment while others may be trying to go through the gate of the sixth dimension, others may be trying to figure out how to breathe, or develop psychic abilities, some may want to heal, some might be window shopping, taste a little here, try it, go from there….not knowing what they’re looking for until they find it. Bums choose the threads they visit, TDB does not endorse any. I have been posting recently opposing anyone to speak in absolutes or coming straight out and saying someone else is wrong. It ain’t carved in stone though, and on threads where a “teacher” is trying to lead “class” if it is their style to profess, I think we have to allow some of that. and will allow criticism or objections/ debate/ etc It has always been this way on TDB but the results IMO have been a little too one sided. Consider to leave a thread rather than flame things up. No one is silencing anyone under my watch, except in the extreme rare cases that devolved into only trolling flame wars. TDB is a platform for any “teacher” to try and find a student. It has always been this way—- Good students are hard to find—- it has always been this way don’t be that bum who lost their cool -
I am not saying it is unacceptable. I just wanted to bring it up, thank you for your response, letting me know that this is your style. I didn’t issue any warning; and prefer using a soft style of modding. I am a mod, and there was a concern expressed by another member. TDB has always had/have trolls, some we tolerate, others not so much. If it is not mean spirited type, I usually allow it. However, this is subjective in some part. I have been a major troll myself, playing hard with everyone isn’t going to work. with some it does, iron sharpens iron. And as I allow freedom of style, I also don’t want a member thinking they are being bullied or singled out to be picked on. Does that make sense? We have a worldwide membership here, folks have different norms for what they consider to be insulting, and what have you. I know you’re new here, having fun, and I am big on self moderation. I prefer informal solutions over formal ones. Everyone, almost everyone that is active will ruffle someone’s feathers sometimes, as you get a better feel for the personality of individual members, I trust you will adjust accordingly. It’s a continuing process IMO a hint to all; if I notice someone speaking in absolutes, outright saying another member is wrong, playing armchair mod out on the open forum, those things raise my red flags. we have a report box that does get checked. we may not always please everyone, in fact we could never accomplish that, I don’t think.
-
Bordering on trolling. Are you trying to increase your post count or is it you just couldn’t have responded with one post to make your stance?
-
absolutely, and thank you so much for that. and I will unlock this thread. also, I have split posts from here to the

ok, Ima little slow. just over a week to get it. + A previous gf of mine used to say if life gives you lemons; squirt the juice in the other dude's eyes, then run like hell.

Where can these mods be found ? to do the sifting. For almost two years the mod team has been overwhelmed by a few members who continue to insult other members, refuse to show any due respect to members or staff. And while mods have been trying to steady the site from the tumults of the past four years, that the same few and a few others refuse to let go of. Not sure how many alternate universes you would travel to find a site meeting some expectations. Sounds good though.

pehaps not overlooked, just unacknowledged. And now acknowledged. I never thought @thelerner had posted that on this thread. ralis has a tendency to quote a lot out of context, or claim someone said something that they never said, but hey, that’s ralis. And here on TDB we welcome his contributions to our discussions on the way. thank you @ralis for your continued participation all of these years with your fellow bums. I personally value your commentarys whether we agree or disagree on any topic. the post by @silent thunder caught my attention, even if I didn’t acknowledge it, then, now acknowledged. My thought was/is his post expressed genuine concern for the health and well being of this site. And that concern, shared by ralis, you, others, voiced here on this thread or elsewhere. and it is something thought over by myself, and every member of staff here and probably a great many bums. Beginning this thread @steve named a few bums. Of course steve didn’t mention steve, nor did he mention thelerner. this site owes a great gratitude to both of them. Just before it was decided to form another mod team, was that on or about June 2020 ? I openly called out/upon thelerner to be the gatekeeper and I was delighted that he accepted that role of service and he also captained forming the new mod team, choosing steve as his co-captain. I didn’t directly reach out to steve even if I saw steve along with thelerner and trunk as the ones most likely capable of keeping this site up and running. I knew I didn’t have to call on steve, myself, because I knew without any doubt that thelerner and @Trunk would do that and it would be better received by steve coming from those two. Now, and it has been for awhile that @ilumairen minds the gate. Everyone should have complete confidence in her abilities and service to TDB as gatekeeper and mod. Although steve already mentioned @dwai at the beginning of this thread, I want to echo the appreciation. I also want to acknowledge @Apech and his thoughtful talent that keeps the vibe of this site where it needs to be. It cannot be overestimated regarding his contributions to TDB and also I want to positively acknowledge ralis, Nungali, Earl Grey, as the not overlooked and not unacknowledged trio of mod critics, a useful counterbalance to the mods, and a benefit for TDB I could go on and on naming bums that I appreciate on this forum, but hey, it’s Friday night, we all have lives outside of this forum, eh Good weekend to everyone, thank you ALL

You’re welcome ! oh, I thought it over before posting it. no need to over think most things.
-
@Nungali No worries, matey. There isn’t/ wasn’t any issue. You can keep arguing of course.
-
I don’t think anyone has suggested allowing the ones who were banned to be allowed to return.
-
True, after all, everything is disconnected, nothing relates to anything else. In fact, a case could be made, has been made, that ones banned from this community and then allowed to return, should be the ones in charge, overlooking, deciding how the site is run.
-
Of course.
-
@Nungali when you became a Dao Bum, in that first year, you never mentioned being banned from another site? seriously, it isn’t a concern to mods if you were or were not. The only reason I mentioned it is I find it a little ironic that you were a banned member allowed to return and object to the very idea of allowing others to return; most of which were never even banned, I guess that irony is lost on you.
-
You can copy and paste my post if you want. I don’t know the specifics of the situation there to offer advice. they have enough bright minds to figure it out if the desire to run a site continues.

Perhaps, ( Hopefully) Original Dao will continue on. It is a good site with some quality content. There is room for multiple sites that engage in Daoist, related, dialogue. Having multiple sites with each having its own vibe, allows for any individual to find the place where they feel most comfortable.

What are the first to words of your post which leads your essay and sets the tone for it. I will post in the manner that I choose thank you very much.
-
I am not everyone else. True, you can use your energy however you choose; if it leads to many false assumptions, that is your bizness. carry on ! You did read the post by @ilumairen ?
-
Thank you !
-
Exactly! I am a minimalist, however @steve makes a good point that the new table could be used to place reports from members instead of acting on them. there isn’t any room left on the table we have been using for that function.
-
My reply to your post is relevant to this thread.
-
That’s a lot of what ifs. Instead of speculating, wondering what if, or trying to think up hypothetical scenarios, which seems like an inefficient way to use energy, I will wait until something happens and then deal with it. We don’t know if more than a couple will return or more than that, at this point.

safe assumption edit to add/// there has been very little activity in the Current Event section. second edit to add\\| You, yourself, Nungali, were also a banned member here { and going by your own account over the years here, banned by other sites or at least displayed detailed knowledge related to bannings] and you were banned here from way up high, well beyond my pay grade. And there were key members here that lobbied for your return, myself included. And we were successful and able to allow your return. We appreciate you here. There are others now banned that would be welcomed back Kumba ya and all. And in my opinion there are some that in my estimations would be too problematic to allow back.
