i used to know how to do the spoiler thing, well not really but i always copied sinfest's. stax records this morning, wish i had stacks of stax http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3qc2aMbr88 but by lunch will be in a bluegrass state of mind, its a rainy day here after all

  3. What are you reading right now?

everywhere i go i befriend librarians and not just becoz they periodically give away free books, well that too, but librarians are cool folks. the latest librarian friend i ran into gave me these. chogyam trunkpa Meditation In Action lin yutang The Importance of Living alan watts The Book arthur minton Philosophy: Paradox and Discovery
  4. What made YOU laugh today/tonight ?

how many computer screens do you have going on there?
  5. What defines a Daoist?

sure there is. there is no escape when one is unhappy with themself. i liked his voting with his feet idea.
  6. What defines a Daoist?

enjoy your travels shanlung. thanks for sharing your perspective. maybe our paths will cross one day. nice birds there in central america
  7. Paganism and Daoism?

i reckon that there is an ongoing crystallization of what some refer to as shamanism. the same thing is going on with Spiritualism. i look at the emergence of contemporay Mayan Spirituality as one example to both.
  8. Paganism and Daoism?

what i am contending on those other threads is that Taoism is more than Lao Tzu's philosophy. i am not trying to be an exclusionary. pantheism, animism, and existentialism have a strong appeal to me. to be true and authentic to oneself and to others is my ideal. and i like hegel's idea that we are transforming to get to the next whatever and then we will transform to the next whatever.

"until after I have finished with the Lily series." hope you dont mind my posting of this
  11. turtle shell a bro-nee? i doubt it but will look forward to his return and response. me nope but i am not fiercely anti-pony i am just fiercely anti-horse stance. i do appreciate the the postings of the alledged el hefe of the pony mafia tho. we cant forget cat pillar, i think he is solidly in the pony mafia. pink ponies are not hard and edgy enuff for my taste, but it takes all types to make up the Great Tao, and i do not judge. but i look at zen nomad as being hard and edgy, so who knows. bro-nee on and keep dreaming of pink prancing ponies. i dream of baguazhang mostly edit> wanted to add hard and edgy for balance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCjxZHGHL4Y
  12. 'Speaking of stones, I haven't mentioned the horse stance in a while ' " If I can stand it, I'll watch some more episodes to get a more accurate picture." looking forward to your report. prancing pink ponies, both cartoons and ferraris, are probably just more fascist marketing ploys placed into the socio-economic arena by the evil elite forces controlling the bourgeois agenda. i went to a local socialist meet-up with some folks i met at I Love Mountains Day, does it show? haha they did listen to my anarchist ideals,,,,, ponies leading to enlightenment? i cant say yay or nay. altho nay does sound some-what like pony language hey its not like bugs bunny coz bugs for sure leads one to enlightenment, maybe not the quick quick path tho. also there is not a quick quick path not to say that the cowboy archetype riding off into the sunset on his pony is not an enlightened being, either way the road leads on and on do ponies carry water and chop wood?
  13. Paganism and Daoism?

phi92 , what are your views about pantheism?
  14. What defines a Daoist?

" I think these few threads on Daoist and American Daoism have been useful to discuss." yes and it has always been in the mix (pun intended?) in the discussions since my arrival and probably b4 on ttb. but these threads specifically speak to it. the differeance. maybe i shouldnt do it becoz of his temporary absence, but i do so in fondness and in a friendly manner. but i kinda look at chidragon as leaning towards the "american taoist" camp. and flowing hands as not being in the "american Taoist" camp. westerners seem to have to put everything neatly into some compartment with a well defined label that fits with their already existing notions,((not very wu wei imo)) instead of immersing with an open mind what is new to them and experiencing it rather than scholary study of, and i dont look at this as some novelty theory. edit> forgot to italicize the quote
  15. What defines a Daoist?

"one of mix and match more than compartmentalization" "west does not really mix philosophical constructions but this is common in the east." inter-disciplinary thought is as important as critical thinking. i sure look like a westerner, but luckily for me, imo, i inherited the heart, soul, mind, spirit of my native american ancestors,
  16. the usual suspects of bro-nee mafia? running rampant like wild horsies on off-topic threads everywhere. wondering how wwroa, owl that does edge-work, and immortalforlife fits into this cartel? or do they ?
  17. What defines a Daoist?

" it's about engaging it more directly." agree "you have to define it" an incomplete definition is of no use to me you are only looking at the philosophy aspect dig deeper
  18. What defines a Daoist?

" or predate it" how are you going to pre-date Taoism ? i reckon the Taoist Immortals aint Taoist either
  19. Happy Birthday Jade Emperor!

  20. What defines a Daoist?

" all religious Daoism that we know of descends from that tradition " there is a difference between religious and esoteric and Spiritual edit> and the latter two go back waaaaaaaaaaaay farther

  22. What defines a Daoist?

" Don't western taoists have a say? " sure but it isnt going to be as accurate of a say. " So if western people want to ignore traditional Chinese gods and consider Lao Zi as a founder, then let them do that. ' the term " Laoist " gets tossed around some here. go ahead and ignore the better parts of Taoism, doesnt matter to me. just sayin' ed> spelling
  23. What defines a Daoist?
