  1. the lights go out

you realize this is not the most mystical energetic manipulating explanation?
  2. Compassion, Peace, and Vicious Dogs

my proposed solution: i have this idea about a sanctuary out in the forest (or anywhere) could be a taoist retreat (or any type) coz truly enlightened folks can come from any walk of life. (maybe even a dog's life?) gaurding temple dogs of course would be there (pit bulls) the true test of someones inner peace, harmony, compassion would be if they could walk past the temple dogs without the temple dogs growling, or showing there teeth, or attacking. obviously anyone who does not have fear (what is there to fear?) becoz as some boddhisattva has said many many times on this forum is "only right wing conservative tea baggers who own viscious dogs have fear." and anyone with a higher spiritual level like that could just float on past these watchful, mindful temple dogs. if the dogs bark that is ok, coz they are just signaling someone approaches. if the dogs dont bark even, then the sanctuary will grant monk status. if the dogs run up wagging their tails and licking the person appraoching , they can be the abbot? if someone had to break out their "hapkido 5 second kill technique"to get past the dogs, they could be the martial instructor. i got bit by a spider once, however, and i demand that all spiders be exterminated. and anyone caught with spiders on their property should be jailed.

don vedo, excellent observations about the "other techniques" and yes they are definitely included. if one is to develop deep internal power, (in this case from silk reeling) wouldnt one want to have ways to express(manifest) it? the circle walking is a way to get the energy dispersed thru-out your body. imo/ime so i think you are very much on the mark.
  4. Upanishads

Woot! and yeah , sometimes one just needs to say F*** it!! thank you Serene Blue.
  5. DGS's Dizzying DVD Collection

Silk Reeling Palm change workshop tempe arizona 2000 i wanted to review this dvd becoz of how closely it relates to the Bagua Iron Shirt dvd i previously reviewed. there is the rolling, turning, stretching, wrapping, rising and drilling, falling and overturning. ok bagua stuff. and another short dvd this dvd is in a very different style from the Bagua Iron Shirt dvd. this one is very relaxed and my first view of Lao Xie's sense of humor. relaxed. so even if there are only 2 or 3 new moves to the Iron Shirt form, Lao Xie shares knowledge and insight that leads to skills: moving your consciousness outside your body exercises for projecting energy yielding away from energy scanning with your palm and plugging your palm to 3 dan tiens sensitizing your palms Lao Xie explains the differences of walking the circle clockwise and counter clockwise he introduces shen skill shen gong mind and heart and how to begin to liberate yourself from the grid.

bagua circle walking: single and double palm change , imo is suitable for beginning level person with interest in baguazhang. "i.e. why not just Bagua?" this is the route i have chosen to take. also the Red Lightning/13 elbows form is a great foundation for baguazhang. i will be reviewing these dvds along with Bagua Silk Reeling soon.
  7. Compassion, Peace, and Vicious Dogs

"there would be no need for cops and militia." that would be great. one better , might be, happy pit bulls freely roaming , friendly barking and much happy tail wagging. some would suggest that we live in a dangerous world.
  8. reasons why i like the tao te ching.

"regardless of who you stole it from." acquire is a word i like to use TTC is brilliantly brilliant in that what ever level you happen to be on with your understanding the TTC will still be very relevant. example , a marblehead may see it as a fabulous philosophical work or a guide for political leaders, and a flowing hands may see it as a remarkable shamanistic treatise.
  9. My Little Pony

the attention of all real horses , is today, set on kentucky yesterday 14 fantastic phillies had at it. what was it that chuang tzu said about a galloping horse? hint> it has nothing to do with horse stance how fitting it was a female rider won a race with all female horses, first time that ever happened. 10. "Absorption of energy from the Tao required or not?" yep and your gonna have to emit it also. both are easily done anyways,,,, lower levels are cultivating jing and qi, higher level is always cultivating the spirit. of course jing and qi and the material foundation. coz, we are spirits living in a material world. highest level is being one with the tao or attaining the tao. chapter 33 of the tao te ching effectively tells us how please read and ponder upon chapter 33 what is important is finding the true value of existence
  11. Book Recommendations?

i am wondering if TTB has a section like twinner's and marblehead's TTC, only this section would be on the upanishads? or maybe a thread of the upanishads? Serene Blue, what do you think?
  12. DGS's Dizzying DVD Collection

this is the one i have from 2002. and i watched it again this morning, it has been awhile since i have viewed the dvd, and i was thinking if i gave a review, then maybe, watch it again and glad i did. the above review is based on what i have learned from the dvd and doing the form for 3 years. watching it again this morning i will add, the dvd runs only about 26 minutes. DGS narrator says that it strengthens bones, improves flexibility and increases internal power. i left out the internal power, but i think it is a given that anything bagua is going to increase internal power. also the narrator says the 4 movements emphasize rolling, changing, stretching, and wrapping. but if you play with this form awhile, i think you will understand why i stated as i did above. there is great detail given on the focal points of the movements. there is a nice slow redundancy to ensure that anyone will get the breathing pattern and the movements and how to coordinate them together. to quote the narrator "lets try this again" there is excellent explanation of the finer points of the breathing method and the movements.

the 3 dragons of kunlun are on the Heart of Bagua dvd. the Awakening the Dragon Within is most likely a new title for the 8 energy set and i think on some dvds it is called the 8 power set. lazy cloud has aske me a couple of times, why i dont own this dvd. i have talked to Lao Xie about it, it is good material and well worth it. the set takes about an hour to do. this dvd may seem "a bit new agey" (Matsuo) but bagua is ancient agey, right?!
  14. What are you listening to?

RIP adam yauch http://music.yahoo.com/news/adam-yauch-beastie-boys-dies-47-180951189.html seems all my posts to this thread lately have been when someone passes away.
  15. forest dwelling ....

out in the woods, the forest always wears the colors of the spirit. the forest is a mighty cathedral. when i feel the calamity that sometimes the hustle and bustle of the rat race brings, i always find my peace, my refuge out in the raw nature of the forest. my melancholy is dissolved by the frolics of faeries, nymphs, elves, forest dwelling beings. there is a light that filters thru the forest canopy unlike any other light. it is pure magic. the trees and plants , even rocks all speak to me, and i to them or at the least we nod to each other. the effect of our communication sometimes takes me by surprise and yet is not unknown. the immortal beauty of the wilderness flowers, hills, the animals, reflect the finest , the sublime true wisdom. such good fortune i have , to have found out in the forest , wild delights, exiliraration, redemption, restoration. no matter what happens to me in urban settings, i find renewal, there is no disgrace, calamity, or illness that the forest cannot and will not repair. the forest never forgets me and it bestows upon me grace and health. indeed even to perpetual youthfulness. it rolls away the years. it grants me tranquility and equanimity. it uplifts me, it reminds me that i am nothing, yet, it lets me see grand sights, moments in when i can see all. there is always a festival going on. in the mornings, the afternoons, under the stars at night. out in the forest there is peace, kindest generosity, always giving to those who would venture in and accept the gifts. my wish is that all could feel the lightness , hear the forest music , embrace and be embraced by an energy so comforting. i encourage anyone to tap into true wisdom.
  16. NFL Players Need Qigong

yeah, the price these guys pay for fame and fortune. walter payton, lyle alzado, junior seau, and many others were dazzling performers and magical to watch. it saddens me that they died so young. maybe we could start writing the NFL suggesting they take a closer look to qigong.
  17. having a name like "thelerner" is very telling, in a very favorable way.

always enjoy your generous sharing of your insights.

i dont think Matsuo has a TTB screen name, becoz, once i told him of a post in the PP section that i wanted his opinion on and he told me he couldnt get into that area of this site. my review of the Bagua Iron Shirt dvd by Christopher Matsuo, Lao Xie. i tried to upload an image but couldnt. maybe i can add in an edit. this was one of the first dvds i ordered from DGS. it is short form and contains a higher level breathing technique that will help jumpstart one on the way. shows how to open and close, rise and drill, rolling, wrapping, backwards reeling, hiding flower under leaf, and heaven palm. continued use will strengthen the bones and improve flexibility. Also, continued use will deepen ones understanding. this short form emphasizes drilling, rolling, expanding, encircling(wrapping). also how the substantial and the unsubstantial mutually produce the other. these are the fundamental arm movements of baguazhang (drilling, rolling, wrapping, expanding) that are used to manifest jin. i really enjoy this form and continue to learn lessons from it. for example, from this form i have found that if i combine expanding and embracing my opponent is confused as to my intentions. if i combine rolling and drilling my power is strong and very penetrating. this form raises energy. if you have difficulty with the included breathing technique, not to worry, just do the form and breathe naturally, eventually you will be able to do the higher level breathing. this is my experience with this form and my take on it only. from my current level of understanding.
  19. The Burden of Proof

...or can see only what they are prepared to see" one size does not fit all. anyone should find what resonates with them and go with that. i recommend tai chi to everyone, yet consider how many different styles and variations of tai chi are known.

  22. Cancer-killing dandelion tea gets $157K research grant

i tend to make some very abstract leaping points myself, but going from dandelion tea to wife beating ? ime , a lifetime of herbal fascination and study and practice and experimentation, there is something to the root thing. i do agree herbology is a complex and deep area. one man's weed is another man's herb ( i have been using this one since last friday) http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/h/hemloc18.html 157k for dandelion tea? good work , when you can get it.
  23. We all have issues-

perhaps and i was glad that alan watts and carl jung have been mentioned. both being early influences that led me to consider the tao. it is like jung himself had become the archetype of a wise old man (sage) with watts, it may be an easier bridge for many westerners to eastern thought "writings and recorded talks still shimmer with a profound and galvanizing lucidity." those able to dip their toe into the jungian pond and understand, then jung is a true giant
