There is quite a bit, a lot, that I don't know about animals or humans. Human is an animal, BTW. More specifically, a human is a mammal with opposing thumbs capable at grasping at straws. Also, humans give themselves way too much credit and other animals not nearly enough. As far as some animals (not all) making a practice of cultivating---just as, some humans (not all) make a practice of cultivating,, as far as that---I have no doubt at all. I wouldn't try humanizing other animals, try and see them for what they are, their own unique traits, abilities, tendencies, nature.

I don't know the birds you're speaking of; I am sure they are remarkable. I'm sure they'd confuse me, at least until I'd have a lifetime around them. Here, I can tell if it's a mockingbird speaking cardinal or the cardinal, or a bluejay pretending to be a red tailed hawk. the bluejay antics work well on their fellow forest critters, who are not going to waste time finding cover if it is the hawk or just some bluejay. I can also tell if the night birds, whip-poor-will or barred owl has wings or stand upright on two legs ( prowlers) Nice. And I think some animals practice both that you mention. Do you think some animals; be they , other primates, bears, cats, birds, fox, coyote, whichever animal,,, cultivate and do so consciously?

Happy Birthday Monet !! " Monet painted this dark, moody canvas of a willow tree growing at the edge of his water lily pond during the last year of World War I. He finished the painting the day after the peace settlement ending the fighting was signed. The subject, a willow tree, was a long-recognized symbol of remembrance of the dead, and Monet intended to offer this work to the French government as his personal tribute. For reasons unknown, the painting was never transferred, but Monet went on to create a huge cycle of water lily paintings that now are housed in the Museum of the Orangerie in Paris. Painted late in Monet’s long life, this work demonstrates the Impressionist commitment to capturing the ever-changing motion of the sunlit natural world with detached, gestural brushstrokes of divided color. Here, however, his palette is darker and mood more emphatically somber compared to his earlier works. Weeping Willow, 1918. Oil on canvas. Gift of Howard D. and Babette L. Yes, for me, it's hard to leave the forest. So much gratitude that it's never more than a step or two away. A couple of weeks ago, while i was pre-meditating for my pre sunrise meditation and arriving at a suitable spot to meet and greet with red plasma sphere bringing light and warmth, a lone bird, (and i am well versed recognizing which birds are chirping, whistling, singing, talking) i couldnt identify, it was around darkest time of the morning, spoke to me for a few. It was the first bird communicating of the morning, well timed message. More gratitude from me, fr fr. Those few moments the lone unknown (to me) bird talked, all the other birds were quiet. A moment after i heard the bird speak, the other birds began making joyful noises. That sunrise qigong after meditations, a bird message, was spectacular. Super charged for the better part of the day with lingering benefits through part of the next day. Energetics, Shen, Nature.

Some animals cultivate, some have extraordinary abilities. Some could be defined as “magical”

What is virtue in daoism, can Shen be developed through it?
zerostao replied to -_sometimes's topic in Daoist Discussion
Daoist Virtue: wu wei, ziran, carefree, natural. true to your own nature. De is your power of the Way and its power. Ability to use your Wu. -
Is Waidan necessary for advanced Neidan?

I never thought of absorbing Qi as a mistake. I understood that in a way , it is “borrowing” in a best case, exchanging. quite a bit of mileage can be gained, the right preparation and being in a favorable spot to meet the sunrise,,, walking the circle around certain trees,,, having earth energy rise into me/ propelling me through the trigrams,,, I do agree that not having to “borrow” is ideal. please continue chatting edit— just realized thread is about taking Qi building pills. -
I wonder if mushrooms have expanded awareness. I wonder that not just because they’ve expanded mine a time or two. I think mushrooms are waiting for the right moment to save the planet. Sometimes, I think that. Anyways.

without those two: Trunk & steve, this site wouldn't be up and running. -
Sound and reasonable advice. It is not realistic to get the full view from just one site. Probably not realistic to get the full view, regardless. It's good to have more than one source, whatever one is researching/exploring.

Discussions on the Way and along the Way, Covid rudely stood in the Way. what good is cultivation if it cannot address whatever decides to show itself along the way? discussing various remedies: herbs, qigongs, other, that ease the suffering covid has brought, seems natural to me. listening to the experiences that members choose to share is valuable and cannot be found elsewhere. Dao Bum, Covid Bum, label any way you like, either way it's gonna be the same. Good Chi Kung beats covid all day long.

@liminal_luke Alcoholics are able to meet and discuss all things related to alcohol. NA has the same foundation. Those that lost loved ones to violence have support groups where they can discuss the myriad issues and nuances of violent tragedy. Covid has impacted the great majority of us, one way or another. I won't speak of personal things out here in the open---i have suffered loss and grieve. It was a help to me that I was allowed to confront this thing by discussing it, ---the good, bad, ugly of it---with members of this forum that I have established some level of trust with over the past 12 years. I would have preferred the subject be allowed to continue in the ppf sections on the forums of bums, I trust, rather than out in the open. There is a reason AA,NA, and those types of groups meet behind closed doors. Others see it differently than I do. Discussions on the way
