  1. New Video, Buddha Boy Abridged

well, it probably really sucks to be disturbed while in DEEP meditation. how come he didnt have a couple of guys there standing watch to prevent that from happening. he beat them up, not the other way around, right?
  2. Sifu Chris Matsuo

gih, what is the defense against a vibration palm strike? or from someone who can pass a wave thru a tree? if someone has their xingyiquan to the point to where they are not using one element with the strike but all 5. why would someone at this level go into a mma match?
  3. Financial Enlightenment?

in my experience i discovered that for me; the level of my happiness or unhappiness, satisfaction or dis-satisfaction, health on un-health, esteem or lack of, was not dependent on if i had money or not. in times i had money, i experienced happiness and unhappiness. in times i did not have money, i experienced happiness and unhappiness.
  4. Red Pheonix and Ba Gua

strangeness existed long b4 quarks showed up in the particle zoo. of quarks i like the ones with charm. i dont think it is so strange if quarks wanna flow backwards or sideways or zigzag about. all things be (special) relative and all. i also had an outing (after posting penrose twice today already) i went to the Dirac sea even the salt there is quantum. if erwin and albert were only there. but alice was! i am sure you have already heard about alice. alice took the cat(schrodinger's) put it in a room with a friend (bobby) and some cat poison that gets relesed if an atom(radioactive) she also put in the room decays. the point of booby being there is alice can communicate with him better than with the cat. meow. alice thinks the atom is both decayed and not decayed which makes the cat both dead and alive. alice slips a piece of paper under the door to ask bobby(observer) if the cat is dead or alive? he answers "yes" but alice hadnt asked if the cat was dead or alive as that would have forced the outcome. or as a physicist would say, "collapse ' the state. alice is content observing that bobby sees the cat either dead or alive and doesnt ask which it is. becoz alice didnt "collapse" the state, quantum theory allows that the slipping of the piece of paper is reversible. she can undo all the steps she took. if the cat was dead it would now be alive. the poison still in the bottle, the atom not decayed and bobby would not remember seeing a dead cat. but the piece of paper still remains. alice can undo the observation in a way that does not also undo the writing on the paper. the paper is proof that bobby saw the cat either dead or alive. so, alice could reverse the observation becoz as far as she was concerned, she avoided "collapsing" the state. but in the room bobby thought the state did "collapse" he saw an outcome for the cat and the piece of paper is proof of it. alice thinks that that quantum mechanics applies to macrocosmic objects, and cats and bobs can be in quantum limbo. bob thinks there is either a dead cat or an alive cat. so no, i dont think a little tiny quark going backwards is at all strange. general relativity as you well know assumes objects have well defined positions and never reside in more than one place at a time. this is in direct contradiction to quantum physics. i hope immortal4life is paying attention
  5. proper horse stance...

dang i hate horse stance http://www.shaolin.org/general-2/horse-stance.html
  6. idk but i always eat the raw berries. i never buy the juice even if sometimes i soak the berries (and sometimes with other herbs) in alcohol.
  7. Thoughts on the Science Delusion

immortal4life, how do you feel about pantheism? i realize it is an "ism" how do you feel about the writings of Carl Jung? i just don't see the "war" between science and spiriuality. i would have to think that religion would be at least just as delusional as science. John Barrow and Paul Davies, i suggest you look into these guys. edit> suggested reading http://www.friesian.com/penrose.htm http://plus.maths.org/content/os/issue18/reviews/book1/index
  8. Thoughts on the Science Delusion

i think part of the disconnect going on is becoz of extremists on both sides. there can be a balance. and with a balance (the middle way?) a more useful dialogue can exist. MH some scientists do act on faith, consider quantum physics and psychology. science may not accept as theory based on faith or imagination but for sure some of the thoughts and experiements/explorations surely are. some lead to well known hypothesis' it has been thru intuition or tossing the dice or imagination that some of the breakthroughs in science have come about. i do agree that there is a difference between organized religion and spirituality. some food for thought here http://www.cambridge.org/gb/knowledge/isbn/item1159361/?site_locale=en_GB http://www.cambridge.org/gb/knowledge/isbn/item2713481/?site_locale=en_GB and this one which i have been longing to get my paws on http://www.cambridge.org/gb/knowledge/isbn/item2713707/?site_locale=en_GB or we can return as suggested earlier in this thread to http://www.cambridge.org/gb/knowledge/isbn/item2713707/?site_locale=en_GB as you well know "NOBODY ever expects the spanish inquisition"
  9. answer the call of the tao

when an artist (or anyone) achieves an ontological experience, his creative activities have bloomed like a (golden)flower. (when i say ontological i am referring to a study of nature, reality, existence) i feel the educator and the scientist(or anyone)(leaders??) also may look at this type of experience as a source of strength. the primordial source as a fountain of inspiration. lao tzu spoke of "losing and losing" this is self-realization and not a rejection. sometimes i consider to withdraw even further away from society but as long as i have left burden, anxiety, and fear behind and have attained an inner serenity (higher and more integrated level of consciousness) then i can live a joyous and active participation in society. maybe my present level will still keep me out of the larger cities? "as for where one stays , one values the propper place" i empty my cup each morning and begin anew. "to attain knowledge means to increase every day". life and daily activities are not left behind but does have a new realization. to lose the burdens, anxiety, and fear is not nihilistically to reject reality. it is merely casting aside the negative side of life. it is a fulfillment of the positive in dealing with these affairs of the world. "as for where one stays , one values the propper place for the mind, one values its profundity for the friend, one values their kindness for words, one values sincerity for affairs , one values ability for action, one values timeliness." imo it is these qualities that lead to the inner serenity. in self-cultivation one never deviates from the neccessities of practical life.
  10. Did Lao Tzu do Tai Chi or Qigong?

in chapter 10 of the TTC Lao Tzu discusses breathing exercises in connection with meditation. " Can you concentrate on your breathing to reach harmony and become as an innocent babe? Can you clean the dark mirror within yourself and make it of perfect purity?... if you don't like this translation of TTC go to TTC chp 10 and read the Henricks translation. "concentrating the breath and making it soft... cultivating and clearing your profound mirror" when i am meditaing i am concentrating my breath and i am trying to cultivate my inner mirror striving for purity.
  11. [TTC Study] Chapter 8 of the Tao Teh Ching

the attitude of the taoist is not a nihilistic one , but rather a proper adjustment derived from the highest level of inner serenity.(after the transformation of his/her whole being)(unity) this inner serenity creates and speaks of unlimited potentialities. in other words, we reach the ground where all creativity springs forth when we become aware of this> deep underlying harmony. the daily lives of those individuals who have achieved such an inner experience (enlightenment) does not differ from those of ordinary men.
  12. Temporary Absence

    welcome back Marblehead
  13. Thoughts on the Science Delusion

i agree and his topics do get alot of views and responses. why would there be a ban? i find them entertaining. didn't he also present some work done by lawrence krauss??
  14. Red Pheonix and Ba Gua

maybe of interest? http://www.astro.lu.se/~melvyn/book.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordovician%E2%80%93Silurian_extinction_event i always thought it was the gamma ray thing even if there may be no evidence of such.
  15. Wounded Knee

Kung Fu Hustle is the shizzle! yup and it probably deserves its own thread.
  16. The Game of Opposites

-K- before i reply to yopur opposite view of my opposite view, thus making it an opposite view cubed Otis was right this is tricky. let me say i do feel the scientific method and scientists do a great service to our community. do i think it has limits? yes, i do. ok my opposite view to your opposite view of my opposite view ; if one believes anything sincerly then it is easy to be coldly objective. and there is little chance that our selective view or biases could not be hidden in the unconscious.(subconscious) to know, understand, or interpret the universe is solely achievable by the scientific method. and here i will deviate a bit and add that it is within the grasp of any science with the 2 exceptions of quantum physics and psychology. is biology a science?? anyways.... the status of intuition, creative insight, imagination, and self experience would play no role in advancing this knowledge/understanding. of course i do not have any scientific studies in my background but i did stay at a holiday inn express last night. edit> i wanted to add this.
  17. Wounded Knee

But there is something to be said for a hard day of physical work followed by a cold beer and a re-run of "Kung Fu Hustle" steve f , you are one cool bum.
  18. Red Pheonix and Ba Gua

nice post but it still sounds a little quarky to me but i think you may be onto something here.
  19. i am finding many herbs that are of interest to me to now be listed as out of stock. i hope this is due to seasonal production. remember folks "rust never sleeps" ed.spelling
  20. Fukushima Reactor Meltdown

Actually, anarchy requires a certain mindset... mature, self-determined people and a lot of effort to make it work. In your energy-crisis scenario what is much more likely to happen is what history shows usually happens in great crises (just look at the Great Depression): tyranny. Because the majority of people (those who make 'soft tyranny' work in the first place) are weakened by the crisis and having lived in a control structure for so long, when they are a lot more on their own, they look up to a great authoritative leader to make things nice again. Anarchy can only work if people respect others and don't look up to power. The thing is that our imagination is very important for bringing about change, and seeing further into the future can work, but many people abandon thoughts like that, thus it is a self-fulfilling failure. Of course smaller steps forward have a higher chance of succeeding than greater ones. Nevertheless, I think the whole spectrum is important. Looking farther ahead is a more difficult endeavor, thus we should support those people instead of treating their effort like it's worthless. Everything hinges on what we choose to believe. As I said, humankind's problems are not of scientific nature, but of political nature. yes yes yes do not be distracted just becoz they found another war or 2, produced a birth certificate , and now have a dead bin laden. is there an effort to re-colonize north arfica and arabia? and lets just pretend the crisis in japan went away.........
  21. Fukushima Reactor Meltdown

a ginkgo tree also survived. not sure if there is a clue there?
  22. Should I go to this year's Rainbow Gathering

excellent report Seth, thanks for sharing. i guess i have been to 4 of these , 3 were in kentucky and one in ocala florida. not sure if the power of suggestion applies here but at each gathering i attended and one i couldnt quite find, i could hear the drums and that was frustrating but i think it was becoz who i had with me. but at each gathering i did in fact see a rainbow in the sky. the one camp we couldnt find me and my friend still saw the rainbow, this one was different , as it was a vertical straight beam(no arc) it came out of dark clouds. i was the passenger and could not convince the driver to go over to it. he said "don't you know you can never get to a place like that" of course we were out in the middle of a national forest and on old log roads. so maybe it would have been dificult to find that pot of gold. i still wanted to try
  23. anger, what now?

imo it is easy for some of us to pretend we are angels or kind beings until someone else comes along and ruffles our feathers in some way. then it is when the true colors of character show themself. there are many opportunities to grow and learn more about ourself. edit > and others. but knowing ourself is the idea, i think.
  24. Wounded Knee

steve, yeah i watched that when i was 13, all those types of movies/ dances with wolves, and not just with the native american indians but with all peoples. and on all continents ,why and how can this happen? and it continues today where will it strike next? whether it is called genocide or ethnic cleansing or culling the herd. it is a terrible sickness. and folks wonder why i withdraw away from society as i do.
  25. The John Lennon Legacy

kinda surprised no one had put this up yet. as i intended to reply to it so first let me put it up and it my present state of mind/actions i do relate to it and now i reply with http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGSqHMhXvyQ which also fits my present state
