nice link, i thought it was interesting it says you should first astral project before trying to raise kundalini. and importantly it is good to have a good teacher to help you.

i was thinking of the red reishi but now thinking black after reading these posts. i will be growing my own along with other mushrooms next year.getting the spawn from mushroompeople in tennessee. the cordyceps i got from kalahealth 740 mg each i take 2 in the morning 2 in the evening. so they are grown in the sierra nevadas , i think? not from nepal/tibet. i cannot afford those.if you know a good source for the reishi i would be grateful. otherwise it is pot luck off the net.

Yo, what books of the tao would you recommend for a beginner?
zerostao replied to Trickster_Crow's topic in Group Studies
i second the sub-forum on tao te ching and alan watts. there are also some videos of him posted on you tube. they are short and not as good as a book but gives you idea of the flavor. the secret of the golden flower is a book i like but it has been pointed out to me here that the cleary version may be more easily understood than wilhelm. the taoist exercise and health book by da liu is a nice overview for a beginner in my opinion also a personal note about the wilhelm translation of the secret of the golden flower, is that the commentary by cc jung for me was very useful -
interesting discussion as i am about to start using the reishi mushroom myself, starting with about 2 g a day. i have had nice results with shiitake and excellent results with cordyceps. by trade i deal with herbs. i agree generally that the same herbs should not be continued for extended times. even if i sell wild gingseng, yellow root, black and blue cohosh.( and others) i am not such a big fan of ginseng myself( but i am happy it brings the prices that it does) with the cordyceps last year i used for 2 months was happy with results. this summer i started again and continue to do so until my supply runs out as i feel stronger the more i take them. lu rong i feel is best used long term as the results build upon themself. herbs like licorice , cinnamon, white peony, tumeric i feel can be used long term. some breaks in use are good . an interesting thing about herbs in general is if you combine them with other herbs better results are obtained. this is especially true with combination of yellow root (goldenseal) however yellow root is a particular herb i would only use short term. fire and water healing can be a very useful tool , however it is really not a complete healing system in of itself. diagnosis at a distance is in my opinion risky bizness. i know everyone here is trying to use the knowledge they have available to them to be of help. i am no expert of anything. i do have alot of experience with herbs and hope to continue to learn about mushrooms. i suspect the same may be true of mushroom as herbs as when you combine them together = better results. but this is just a hunch. and for sure each individual has a unique chemistry and makeup , the same drug/herb/mushroom no matter how great and wonderful simply does not work for everyone.

i can relate. check this out last month all i wanted was a temporary 2 month warehouse job at amazon. at orientation i was called out of the group and into an office with 2 others. when i went in they said something in my background check came up, they didnt know the specifics but whatever it was they couldnt use me. i was puzzled as my criminal background doesnt have anything that would have disqualified me. the next week i get the disclosure letter apparently i owe a credit card company 592$ or sth like that . and the temp service with amazon used that as a reason not to hire me. of course i could appeal their decision but the appeal process would take longer than the job would last. the last 2 years i have been a welding student going to school 2 days a week and getting about 5 grand each semester for myself after the school gets their cut. so there may be other possibilities for income. good luck (btw i have thought of alaska from time to time, maybe its just my fantasy

if you can find some of jerry alan johnson's early books on pakua .worth the read.

i predict zerostao will continue mud-stepping in circles, some counter clockwise, some clockwise. there will be more meditations. taiji quan. a handful of qigongs. more circle walking...pole star, big dipper, transforming into a magical dance of vortexes played in physical poetry & woven on a circle. (my teacher has told me to freely use his sayings) 8 mother palms, iron shirt with silk reeling and water dragon. i will still be a long ways from 10,000 days of practice with the straight sword.i will use another gallon of dit da jow. there will be fellowship with other bagua players as well as taiji quan players. many good herbs will be found here in our wild kentucky forests. work will continue on my ancestral home. i will begin to study feng shui. i still will not be able to read the chinese charactors on the feng shui compass. there will be studying and pondering of the I CHING.

i like what a few others have already said as but not limited to "harmony" "the gateway to the tao" i will reveal my very limited observation about taiji quan. i do the cheng man-ching ... unification of internal qi>physical manifestatation of the qi dancing in the clouds or swimming on the land listening, following, attaching, adhering unification of human & heaven's spirit in a word?? hmm soft? but i am more a bagua kinda guy as for taiji (without the quan) wuji> taiji> yin & yang

i look forward to this sub-forum each day. i start and end my day with it. so many wonderful commentators contributing to it. not to look too far ahead and with so many chapters left with this to cover. but after 81 chapters, i think it is 81? and only then i would hope a new sub-forum delving into chuang-tzu could begin. thanks you tao bums for the tao teh ching sub forum. not sure why you didnt already have one? but glad you waited on me to start visiting this site before you began it. ; ) hahaha

i am a simple minded creature. but how i like to look at the diference between knowledge and wisdom is that wisdom is the use of knowledge for it greatest good.

free willie!! or have i heard that b4 somewhere idk

big dipper or pole star stepping is great stuff. i agree it came from taoists and may be more ancient than we can ever know. i have heard dong haichuan was one of 3 students from the same teacher. i have heard that li yuen while wandering thru the mountains looking for herbs while he was still a young man of 120 (which would be before dong haichuan was even born)was taught baguazhang by 2 very old guys. anyways it is great this beautiful and complete and deep! art is becoming more and more accessable.

howdy just me. a little book that helped me with some of my questions and i think it will adress some of yours THE SECRET OF THE GOLDEN FLOWER

i understand about being hooked on baguazhang. it is humbling and uplifting at the same time. as fascinated i am with taji quan and xingyi quan and i see great advantages to either of those systems , i can never get around to practicing much of them because i find myself always playing with the bagua... @kate , just out of curiosity which book?

howdy, thanks Shimo for the interesting post. seems anytime we do get an answer it just leads to more questions ; )

i feel that whichever energy moving system anyone uses one must become adept in being able to lead the energy with their intent. also their intent is what defines the use of this energy i.e. for healing. it is usual that before one can heal another they have first healed themself. for me alot of this has much to do about feeling the energy. there is a basic diagnostic process and part of it is intuitive. at some point all of these systems overlap. the practioner must have understanding of what they are trying to accomplish.
