I heard once something about missing the Forest for the Trees. This community, The Dao Bums, is a microcosm of something much larger. In this test tube, we see how it all could unravel; How we could lose the goodness so a handful (who feel they know better than you or any of us) may remain in their comfort zone, so the few, will feel safe in their habits, may continue to look at the world precisely stereotypical. (dim and unaware of the greater danger) -

Using scatology aesthetically, not gratuitously, for comic condemnation ensures that exuberance, colorful and wide-ranging vocabulary, and literary variance continue to contribute to your popularity here. It worked for Rabelais and Francois would feel right at home here on TDB, imo. Rabelais got to the very marrow of meaning by facing head on and offering commentary on all kinds of difficult topics including politics, which he, of course, despised. but seriously, serious as our staff giving careful consideration to the myriad problems we Bums pose to this forum's discourse which we demand, being Bums/ a behind the scenes, rarely scene glimpse of staff at work with due diligence et al keeping this place up and running harmoniously festive and allows the way for all to attain the dao which isnt an attainment at all however, it reveals the luv staff has for this place and us bums speaking as a former staff myself, i am in the know, so -

actual virtual representation of bums acting on a controversial topic thread aka the good, the good & the good -
that is the philosophical question isn't it? philosophy is about preparing to die. in the meanwhile we live and learn. my Taoist experiences opened my mind to the energetics beyond blood and bone. for anything to be higher Spiritual it must translate into the physical realm too. connections transcend the physical and mental states to the Spiritual.

i say some folks might consider working on their obsessive behavior. ironically, it is often those same folks who speak concerning the psychology of others. there is a lot going on on some of those threads. beneath the surface lie myriad levels and layers. at one time i used the trump thread to work on my energetic shields and probe others energetics/shields. i've learned quite a bit although not necessarily all that much about trump. i had completely stepped away until it found its new location which altered its energetics, so, i am back checking on that aspect of it. i doubt anyone on this thread or even the site has less interest in politics than me. yet, i find the thread useful. this site is Spiritual & energetic, the amount of energy put into the trump thread is a study of its own. is it wasted energy? how could it be? -
@rideforever i do like your use of "bad faith" it is a term i became fond of reading some of the existentialists particularly sartre. rousseau's bad faith is a horse of another color. although both versions can easily be traced to montaigne. jrr tolkein's The Hobbit & LOTR agree with rousseau's concept good and bad faith. I have touched upon the theme in my anarchy threads, I still have not made the public leap that society/civilization acts in "bad faith" which would be essentially "evil" even if the evidence does suggest just that. apolgies to @Lost in Translation for my abstraction. however, it is my nature to do so.

imo there are always truths behind the myriad myths i may delve deeper to consider why the Hindu, Nordic/Finnish, and Native North America appear to diverge from the others.

perhaps the worthy adversaries good and evil are myths? the two concepts are woven into the tapestry of imagination that date back to Ancient times. does one hold an advantage over the other, interesting question. Egyptian good god Osiris and his evil brother Set play a drama of betrayal, death, & resurrection. Babylonian Ishtar dispenses good and evil. The hero king Gilgamesh that she loves rejects her while he portrays the human state of helplessness. Persian duality has the god of Light ashura mazda (zoom zoom) and his evil brother angra mainyu. Hebrew/Christain/Islam have a good god and devil duality. Armenian demonic and beneficial spirits converted to christianity. Greek well, zeus had his rivals. Nordic/Finnish has a Trickster who acts and prevails without conscience while the devils hiisi and louhi fight and lose to the heroes. Slavic duality of good and evil also has that dracula dude. Siberian devils erlik, schulman, and satan are always trying to destroy humans. not sure if that is good or evil, hm oh well Hindu always confuses me lol Buddhist has an evil one that tempts Buddha, yes? Chinese has duality expressed as yin yang not as good and evil Japanese i think has light and chaos Native North American also has a trickster who knows neither good nor evil Aztec/Mayan/Inca the conflict is between life and death Voodoo does have two prominent cults one is demonic and the other beneficial

the much maligned (by me) Aristotle considers the human to be a political animal. there are those who think Aristotle knew something. i know, right. still, to dismiss such a huge part of our nature is healthy? https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/aristotle-politics/index.html#supplement3 going to Athens is one thing and then there are those mysterious Greek Islands -

nostalgia is rat poison lukie. avoid being stuck in the past. you'll never fly if you're stuck. You don't have to buy or munch twinkies just because they're offered. If someone enjoying a cellophane wrapped golden spunge cake with creamy filling as a guilty pleasure disturbs you, is it your problem or theirs? -

A forum that claims it is a Spiritual site should ignore life's tough problems, issues, ? Really? Then what good is the Spiritual if it cannot address life's tricky situations? This site proudly claims Discussions on the Way and along the Way we encounter all sorts of stuff. This IS the place for those discussions? Yes or No How does anyone reach a level of understanding if we sweep all of the tough stuff under the rug and pretend it doesnt exist? To get to the place where bluebirds sing and fly, where troubles melt like lemon drops and the dreams you dare to dream really do come true way up high you first have to deal with what faces us all here. Here We Are. There IS a light that shines on All. To get to Spring you must endure Winter. The leaves blow across the long, black road to the darkened skies In it's rage. Accept it and deal with it at least discuss it or be some imprisoned bird in a cage where you never are allowed to Fly. That would truly be a shame and a pity. If you refuse to fly through the darkened stormy skies you will never reach where you claim that you desire. If Flying to the promised land were easy we wouldn't even need spirituality, would we? You have wings, it is up to you whether you dare to use them or not. Do you wish to remain caged and flightless on a winter's day in the rain, or, you gonna flap them wings and try. -

Relax, I share good news! Stars are being born all the time. There is even a movie A Star is Born. I havnt watched the movie, but, I read some books, rags, and mags about it. I do practice forgiveness myself, sometimes, In that I forgive others, have pity, empathy, whatever. Whether anyone else forgives me, if I ask for that or not is beyond my control. Way beyond. So, I don't dwell on that much. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-is-a-star-born/ http://abyss.uoregon.edu/~js/ast122/lectures/lec13.html Heartbreaking endings, that is Hollywood stuff. Greek tragedy stuff. Even Aristotle could follow that. Everytime a great poet or artist passes another Star is added to a constellation somewhere. I find peace in that. For now, brave Helios shares warmth. Take comfort in that. No worries. It is easy to overthink stuff sometimes, I think that overthinking is a trap and leads to torment. Stay on the Sunny side.

So Nietzsche famously said that order rises from chaos or sth like that. And he wasn't the first to suggest that order rises from chaos, but apparently he subscribed to that idea. Ya know, chaos rises out of order as well, it's coming. ok, back to Camus "In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm." We gonna need to Camus up for what's coming. Good luck to all bums who find within them something stronger, something better,,,,,
