on wednesday at the the campus plaza where the smokers openly defy the recent tobacco free campus ploicy, a rather large, in fact much larger than i have ever seen falcon came by for a few minutes visit. i knew we had some peregrines around campus. one student excitedly said look at that hawk, another said it is a raptor , and a third said a hawk is a raptor, it was no kestrel thats for sure, and when i found our visiting falcon's resemblance on google it was a brown falcon but how could that be, the brown falcons are in australia. this was one majestic bird

do children have open meridians until they develop blockages? -
this is always a good thread to lighten up the mood a bit after tense discussion on other off topic threads! but its a cold rainy day here with gray skies,,,, and in new zealand ,,,,, http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/ac-dc-phil-rudd-arrested-article-1.2000978

i argued against you ralis, as you know lol, in previous years here in off topic threads. however, you have offered a solid presentation of your position. and i am looking at it different lately, maybe the past 6 months.>>concerning fascism. the mussolini model of fascism --- how it viewed corporations--- is different than the current model, am i right? i think events in ukraine right now is the front lines with the fascism and corporatism war but it is going on everywhere right now, unrest after elections, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporatism and from my view we are already in a ww3 of sorts, a very different type of war to be sure than previous ww's but we were all told in 2001, this is a different type of war now, and 21st century war, well look at all the toppled north african and middle eastern activities and eastern europe going on. propaganda from all sides, info wars, proxy wars and use of mercenaries, mercenaries not only on the battle fields but in the houses of governments the cia is now warning of "emminent!" (semiotics) economic apocalypse https://truthernews.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/september-2014-cyber-terror-warning-cia-cyber-attack-on-u-s-economy-imminent/

corporatism not communism is what has poisoned america. "He is openly contemptuous of Congress, of the Supreme Court" they all sell out to the corporatists and the banksters. what is the difference between these congressmen or judges than mercenaries? playing for the highest bidder? corporations and money have the rights that people used to have under the constitution and the constitution was replaced as the rule of law way before obama took office. i am no fan of obama, but its easy to use him as a scapegoat and blame him for things that were going on previous to his administration. its funny what marblehead said about the citizens wanting "change" we were all promised change (and transparency! too funny) in 2008, were we not? bottom line all these guys are POLITICIANS who are in it for their own personal gain, its a game. none is better than another when they all bow down to corporatists and banksters

west virginia elected a republican senator for the first time in over 50 years, washington state re-elected a democrat, but he is actually dead. well he is/was? merely a state legislature so maybe no one will notice. 52% voted in alaska to legalize weed 54% in oregon voted to legalize weed 57% in florida voted to allow medical marijuana but no it is not going to happen a tidbit for marblehead , there are zero atheists in the us congress the real winner of this election is "dark money" that mysteriously shapes election outcomes and has no known origin edit>>hillary could be up against jeb in '16, its true the gene pool is just so small here in usa we either have to have a clinton or a bush running things.. we should just clone mccain and cheney so even more perpetual wars can be started most likely it is the corporatists and the banksters who won the economy is the issue? jobs? well if you are a gun for hire, your in luck these days, lots of work available

The sea is calm tonight, The tide is full, the moon lies fair Upon the straits; on the French coast the light Gleams and is gone; the cliffs of England stand, Glimmering and vast, out in the tranquil bay. Come to the window, sweet is the night air! Only, from the long line of spray Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land, Listen! you hear the grating roar Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling, At their return, up the high strand, Begin, and cease, and then again begin, With tremulous cadence slow, and bring The eternal note of sadness in. Sophocles long ago Heard it on the Agean, and it brought Into his mind the turbid ebb and flow Of human misery; we Find also in the sound a thought, Hearing it by this distant northern sea. The Sea of Faith Was once, too, at the full, and round earth's shore Lay like the folds of a bright girdle furled. But now I only hear Its melancholy, long, withdrawing roar, Retreating, to the breath Of the night wind, down the vast edges drear And naked shingles of the world. Ah, love, let us be true To one another! for the world, which seems To lie before us like a land of dreams, So various, so beautiful, so new, Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light, Nor certitude, nor peace, nor help for pain; And we are here as on a darkling plain Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight, Where ignorant armies clash by night. 1867--arnold, Dover beach

one misconception i find is that laozi is almost always thought of as a philosopher, bleh-eck when someone finds laozi attractive and appealing, they need to look more towards poetry. laozi is a great poet zeros steps back off his portable soap box Do you remember still the falling stars that like swift horses through the heavens raced and suddenly leaped across the hurdles of our wishes--do you recall? And we did make so many! For there were countless numbers of stars: each time we looked above we were astounded by the swiftness of their daring play, while in our hearts we felt safe and secure watching these brilliant bodies disintegrate, knowing somehow we had survived their fall. rilke

ya'll heard that steven hawking now has a facebook page his opening post "I have always wondered what makes the universe exist. Time and space may forever be a mystery, but that has not stopped my pursuit. Our connections to one another have grown infinitely and now that I have the chance, Iām eager to share this journey with you. Be curious, I know I will forever be." some of hawking's curiosity is found in this short article http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052748704206804575467921609024244

The Tiger Tiger! Tiger! burning bright In the forest of the night What immortal hand or eye Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand dare seize the fire? And What shoulder, and what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? and what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain? In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp Dare its deadly terrors clasp? When the stars threw down their spears, And watered heaven with their tears, Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the lamb make thee? Tiger! Tiger! burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? william blake

it doesnt have to be the poet per se, could be the quantum physicist, the artist, the philosopher, the psycologist, neurologist, etc but from any area one great thinker can come along and upset the status quo and a new way emerge. but in ancient greece i think the poet was onto it first. and this idea arise in sufi thought as elsewhere , i mentioned previous, da vinci tells us to closely study the ancients rather than the modern.
-
i think i already gave the answer. at the least pointed to it. dont get me wrong, i enjoy reading the writings of quantum physicists. i look at these guys like rock stars, great entertainers, imaginative thinkers, provoking thought which is great. explore new frontiers. its all good just like plato's form of the good. i am just saying that the real real is beyond quantum physics. edit> plotinus long ago told us that there are many roads.

interesting developments with his thread and yesterday i mentioned lacan and zizek. and right on que they arrive. lacan says that the real is beyond the symbolic and that with the opposition of presence and absence, there is no absence in the real. the opposition is symbolic, and in the symbolic there may be implied something is absent. the real is always in its place. the symbolic is a set of differentiated signifiers and the real is undifferentiated. the symbolic introduces the process of signification. it is the world of words that creates the world of things. the real emerges as that which is outside of language )the tao that can be spoken isnt the real as lao tzu tells us. the real resists symbolism absolutely. zizek adds that this symbolic real is reduced to some meaningless formula like quantum physics which is understood with simple metaphors. it is a different modality than the imaginary real and far far from the real real. in some ways i am platonic, i like platonic love ideal for example.i like his view on beauty, form and flormless. plato saw the power of poetry but he didnt understand it and even wanted poets bannished lol, he didnt trust them and who could predict what they might create.

i think camus derrida and spoons are enuff for today. tomorrow lecan, zizek and how it all goes back to hegel imo which in our synchronicity is curious , in that after marx everyone dismissed hegel for long long time derrida speaks of absence, that will be repeated tomorrow
-
good to see you in good form and in good humor this morning. spoons even, no one ever sees those coming. camus, yes, those 20th century french thinkers and this one born in algeria which he has in common with the subject i had my aforementioned paper assigned. derrida. coincidently camus is a known atheist, i think we can safely say. with derrida it is hard to safely say anything so lets listen to the man himself and see what we think

"Flying saucers exist for you. They don't exist for me." , well, i was in the air force, so, there is this base close to dayton heheh i think and i wonder very subjectively and doubt that pure objective thought is even possible and even if it is it is of very small value. altho, hegel notoriously had the idea the the whole is the truth and i cant argue with that a collective consciousness, i cant go along with that either now if you say collective unconscious, then...... objective reality,,spoken like a true marxist

atheist taoist is common and anarchist too which is also common thread among a few of us here. atheists are the ones who relate well to XYP, as do scientists but i digress and will speak more to that on a XYP thread(at some point) my main XYP teacher is atheist,, mh, do you think existentialism fits on this thread, or should i take that conversation to another thread? i am pleased that you see similarity between ancient greeks and taoists, i think some of our chinese members here dont see that at all. i think existentialism fits well with taoism myself. i have a 1,000 word paper due tomorrow i havnt started on yet haha so i will check back tomorrow and see where we go from here.
