What is Buddhic enlightenment? Can it be transmitted or verified externally? Also, how is it different from kundalini awakening?
Sunya replied to Magitek's topic in General Discussion
yes indeed. I agree I just want to stress that the different schools of Buddhism are all there for you to study, if you're interested in Buddhism check them out, visit centers, meet teachers, read books. Find the one that is most compatible with your personality, the one that appeals to you, and most importantly find a teacher that you connect with. All schools of Buddhism say its imperative to have an enlightened teacher guide you. Having that is so much more important than worrying about which school is best, since 'best' is a subjective not an objective observation. -

I do not post propaganda. and old grudges don't justify religious and cultural oppression. theres no BS, you just need to find a teacher. and the practices are secretive only because they are very powerful and have to be handled properly and given to the right person. just like you can't give a gun to a child until you teach him how to use it properly. Buddhist temple does not mean a center where you can receive real teachings. Buddhist temples in China, many of which I've visited, are places where you go and light incense infront of a statue. Its a joke. i've seen "monks" there on cell phones. Buddhist temples in china are just tourist traps to make China look cultural. wonderful credentials, unfortunately that doesn't mean much if you're not inquisitive. -
very interesting. what tradition? were you told how long of a timeframe is necessary to not ejaculate or is it basically told to never do it? what methods did you learn to transform raw sexual energy into pure energy? what does this mean? that after ejaculating it takes the body 72 hours to build up the necessary jing to support the qi?

didn't you have your fun on jesusfreak? you really aren't funny at all so I don't understand your purpose in posting. if you were actually making me laugh I would appreciate it, but you try too hard man. LOL it's as if you just talk to yourself and never read and learn from the replies of others Dwai, maybe you would have more fun talking to a mirror instead of participating in a discussion forum. how does alaya vijnana not explain the contuinity of experience and memory? alaya vijnana by definition IS continuity and as people have explained to you in that thread, the Buddha never said that Buddha Nature was the Absolute Self, he was speaking about the innate potentiality of Buddhahood that is inherent to all beings. he was speaking to an audience of eternalists who needed to hear that teaching at that time, and the teaching is paradoxical because if you truly understand what Buddha Nature is, there is nothing to grasp, no Self at all, so its paradoxical. Buddha nature isn't experienced as an absorption meditative state like the Hindu Self is. you cherry pick Buddhist teachings and take them out of context to further your agenda.

mmm yes Buddha was a Buddhist, this ain't no Catholic Church hid the secret teachings of Jesus type thing.... all of Buddhism is based on the original teachings of the Buddha, who started the religion.. founded monasteries and nunneries and set up teachings in easy to remember formats. He was setting up a foundation for a movement. You are completely correct about one thing Findley, you're too smart to be a Buddhist. that dualistic mind is churnin up a storm over there! until you learn to let go of your thoughts and sense of self, which you are overly attached to, and learn to feel.. you'll never truly amount to anything. so full of anger, pride, and self-grasping...how do you call yourself a spiritual practitioner? is it merely a label for you or do you seriously think you're evolving by acting like such a prick? -
from what he told me, everything that he talks about is through experience. he was actually a pretty crazy Hindu back in the day, I remember reading his debates on E-Sangha and he was very very much dogmatic in his way of thinking, no doubt from his experiences and insights on the Vedanta and Shiva path.. but then something changed. that sort of change doesn't come from reading a book or meeting someone who is really convincing, that sort of change can only come through experience. like how can a really fundamentalist Baptist every get past their attachment to the 'true' interpretation of the Bible and seeing Christ as a dualistic savior? how can the Baptist get beyond that? only through an experience that is beyond... beyond the ordinary reasoning of the dualistic mind, i think the same happened for Vajra, he had direct experiential insights and he's confirming them through Buddhist scripture. Vajra met and connected with a great Master, and through the mind to mind transmission realized something wonderful, I think....Me... i haven't done that. though i'm trying to connect to the Master, my path to dharma has been the slow kind of study and reasoning. this is how it happens for most people I think, not everyone has the karma to connect with a living master and receive experiential insights right away. All schools of Buddhism rock actually and so do all religions that attempt to lift the veil of mystery and give human beings more than a life full of suffering and attachment. I'm going to guess that since you have nothing valuable to add to the discussion you chime in with sarcasm and attempt to feel smart and bold? How does that benefit you or others in any way? oh and in your attempt to appear clever you took a Zen teaching completely out of context since you have no clue what it truly means. that teaching is about attachment to form and not getting caught up in visions and other phenomena that occur during meditation.

I wouldn't bother with any of the Krishnamurtis, though Jiddu is more approachable. UG doesn't believe in enlightenment, truth, and thinks all paths are useless. why bother with someone so pessimistic? he had some experiences and then just turned into a really negative person. I don't think anything he says is really worth it. His teachings are impractical. though he is higher realization than most people, his teachings are like yelling algebra at a 5 year old I would stick with teachers of more realization who have the compassion to help us practically. get the books I mentioned.. and also check out Crystal and the Way of Light, then you'll be on your way. these books will provide you the foundation to know what the path is all about. once you have a good Buddhist foundation, its easy to tell which teachers are worth it and which aren't. -

wow. just....wow. hey findley, whats genuine taoism say about being an angry prick? -
the negation of Sunyata does not lead to the same realization as the positive assertion that reality exists. negation of phenomena inherently existing is necessary to kill conceptual craving. positing that all phenomena belong to one reality is a position of extremity, a categorical framework, even though it supposedly leads to a non-phenomenal experience this experience is not rightly interpreted. you cannot say that Brahman or Self are non-categorical or non-phenomenal, because that's not true. the very word Self is a conceptual limitation that leads to grasping. think about it.. what does Self mean? look it up in a dictionary. what does it mean? the word leads to grasping. its impossible to escape grasping if you positively assert the existence of one reality. the way to not grasp conceptually is to negate and be free of extremes. Everything is One, Nothing exists, Everything exists. these are all extremes. the reason why its so necessary to have Right View in all schools of Buddhism is because you need to kill conceptual grasping to have true insight.

Should a Taoist Forum focus primarily on Taoism?
Sunya replied to chicultivation's topic in General Discussion
I speak for all Buddhists and semi-Buddhists and non-Buddhists who are interested in Dharma when I say that nobody is preaching, we are just having discussions. If you feel threatened or get angry and don't want to participate, then don't. It's as simple as that. Having polls like this and voting that its irritating only shows your own lack of security and unwillingness to have simple discussion. This is afterall a discussion forum, and i've been here for 2 years and it's never been solely a discussion about Taoism. so lighten up people, and open up. -

the goal is wisdom, complete knowing. since wisdom is an aspect of our natural state. the goal is to rest in our natural state which is free of concepts and extremes. compassion is also another aspect of our natural state. so really that's it. but these are all concepts, and our natural state being beyond concepts is impossible to describe. i really suggest the book What makes you not a Buddhist to get a really good handle on what Buddhism is all about http://www.amazon.com/What-Makes-You-Not-B...t/dp/1590304063 the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying is also wonderful http://www.amazon.com/Tibetan-Book-Living-...l/dp/0062508342 -
no... lol..nobody is saying the universe doesn't exist. you keep saying that, you say that about Buddhism and you say that about quantum physics, when nobody is saying that the universe doesn't exist. is this some fear of yours? non-existence? quantum physics and M-theory (modern string theory or membrane theory) are agreed upon largely by the scientific community, though its a theory and it will remain that way because theres no way to measure other dimensions. it is all based on math. you should probably think twice about doubting quantum theory since its the closest science has ever come to embracing a view similar to Taoism.

yep, I can see that. I hope I wasn't one of the people that made you feel that way. I can see how people coming off too strong can really push you away from their position, that happens to me too. it's very unskillful for people to act like that. but that doesn't mean that their position is wrong. just because they act unskillfully does not make them wrong. these discussions though only point out your own projections, insecurities, and fantasies. specifically the fantasies of how a spiritually advanced person should act and what he/she should say. -
yes and I told you what sleeping without dreaming means. you can't take that literally, just like you can't take breathing with heels literally, but more about breathing in energy through the feet to fill the body you have equated dark energy with chi and dark matter with Tao? what scientist agrees with you? you are only assuming that science agrees with you. science is all about the objective reality through repeatability. unfortunately an ultimate truth cannot come through only objective examination because this ignores the subjective experience. this also reduces (see reductionism) everything to chemicals. according to materialistic science, there is no such thing as happiness. happiness is just a chemical reaction in the brain. same with memory, and thought. reductionism is an outdated philosophy where you reduce everything to the most elementary aspect. so if you take a historical event instead of analyzing the philosophical, psychologicla, historical, and sociological aspects of that event. it's merely chemicals bouncing around, or even smaller, atoms. actually with quantum physics its hard to be a reductionist because on a quantum level there is only potentiality. secondly, science has the assumption that truth is based on reason and the 5 senses. how do you measure something objectively that is beyond the physical spectrum? nowadays, thankfully, the more theoretical scientists like physicists who created the M-theory (which is a reformulation of quantum theory) that posits 11 dimensions. it is impossible to even say what the other dimensions are anymore as its impossible to describe the 3rd dimension to a 2nd dimension being like am amoeba. also quantum physicists are now more interested in the subjective experience because of experiments that posit that the 'observer' actually changes the results in experiments. so this multi-dimensional theory is much more open as it allows for basically anything to happen because on a quantum level there is only potentiality, and time and space are only aspects of the 3rd dimension which do not exist in relatively higher dimensions. so when i refer to science here, i'm referring to the backwards science that hasn't yet embraced quantum physics. backwards science that sticks to reductionist and materialistic philosophies from the 1930s. pseudo intellectuals still grasp this backwards science, and i really think you should move on, Marble. those two statements completely contradict each other. you have a lot of belief, a lot of views. Tao is this, Tao is that. that doesn't exist, mind is that. I am this. so many ideas, so many views. these views tarnish your experience because you do not have an open mind. You're basically driving around with shit covering your windshield. If you truly want to empty the mind, you gotta get rid of these assumptions and views you hold. I know it can be scary to be open minded because this means facing the infinite and unknown. the unknown is scary. its easier to hold onto fixed views and pretend you have all the answers.

this means that eventually once karmic habits are uprooted, the dualistic mind stops fantasizing and there are no longer dreams. but by dreams, this means fantasies. as Namkhai Norbu teaches there are different kinds of dreams. karmic dreams from past lives, random worrying of the present, and dreams of clarity which include visions and insights. Dreams of clarity still occur. being unconscious during sleep is not a good thing. a pure man is conscious of all states including deep sleep. careful... you're going against Science... try meditating on no-me can you actually find the 'me' ?
-
Marble, there is no such thing as real science. What was real for science 100 years ago is completely different today. what science claims is 'real' constantly changes.. so don't be so sure. a materialistic Taoist, lol that's a first. what the 5 senses give you is only a rough representation of reality. you must have learned in high school science class how there are so many different layers that we do not see or hear. the spectrum of light is huge, same with sound. so microwaves don't exist because you can't see or hear them? sure science can measure them but thats a recent thing. did science discover microwaves? dude who cares about science lol, just meditate. let the scientists catch up to your own findings through personal experience, instead of letting them feed you what they think is true or false

that statement is probably why Mahayana Buddhists had beef with Taoists and called them selfish solitary realizers. Whats the point of knowing if you're not going to share and help others? according to Buddhism, if you TRULY know, then you can speak boldly and skillfully. No limitations.

there is a clear difference between having visions of Christ which is based on faith and experiencing the world without concepts and delusions. it doesn't take faith to know the dharma, nor does it take memorization of scripture. it takes a powerful inquisitive logical mind, careful analysis, and deep meditative ability.

lol Vajra isn't Tibetan. he's an American born n' bred here's an old picture of him that he probably wouldn't want anyone seeing, he was pretty drunk. usually nobody sees that sexy belly except his girlfriend

you misunderstand Zen. I suggest you find a good teacher. you can use this site to find a center in your area http://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/

mark, you should strive to achieve the omniscience of a Buddha. this is the goal of Vajrayana practice. omniscience is knowing how to help everyone, knowing exactly what to say, how to say it, and basically being a bad-ass superhero. I understand how hard it can be though, you want to help people but don't know how. just don't give up that desire to help people, its so important. and don't ever doubt the capacity of others to understand. its possible to help people evolve, and SO worth it. keep that desire to help people alive, and keep progressing yourself. you're not done, you still have a ways to go. once you know the true nature of reality and have omniscience, then you can truly help people. till then, you can only point people in the right direction
