How Important is it for your PARTNER to have a spiritual path of some kind?
Sunya replied to Encephalon's topic in General Discussion
fitness? well I could care less about fitness, but being in a relationship with someone like-minded is very important. like-minded as in similar interests, but not a clone. spirituality is very important. i dated a girl who was pretty closed minded and argumentative, we did not have a good relationship because she just did not understand why I was so interested in spirituality. i think a lot of conflict can be present in relationships where there is closed mindedness and not being on the same page in certain aspects. too much alike is bad, but so is being too different. the differences, I believe, should not be in terms of spiritual interest. -
mistake? I don't think we are qualified to say something like that. Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche was a Dzogchen master, he knew. we cannot judge him. it is like an ant trying to judge Einstein. Dzogchen sounds a lot like Advaita because Dzogchen focuses on pure awareness and not on the negation of phenomenal existence. most Kagyus I think take up the Shentong view, which is just a method anyway, like all of Buddhism. Vajra, you are arguing Prasangika Madyamika, which negates all phenomena as possessing self-nature and not positing anything beyond that. Shentong is a view that focuses more on mind and its luminous clarity, meant as a base view for meditation. and used in conjunction with Madyamika. there is no conflict.... Shentong just clarifies more, says what is left unsaid in Madyamika. IMO. from Lama Gyatso on E Sangha http://www.lioncity.net/buddhism/index.php?showtopic=5017 "I've been taught that Rangtong is the best view to destroy eternalism, Shentong the best view to destroy nihilism. Since most sentient beings fall into the eternalist group Rangtong is the best view to refute views outside Buddhism, those that lack an understanding of Emptiness. Shentong is the best view to refute those who are Buddhists but have misunderstood Emptiness and slipped into a subtle nihilistic view. I think one should follow ones inclination viewing them as peers until one or the other is clearly needed"

this looks good.. whens it coming out? reminds me of a really good documentary on Ayahuasca and DMT called "Other Worlds" which you can download online off bittorrent.. its about the same topic and even has an interview with the guy who made Spirit Molecule. the shamanic singing in the background of the trailer particularly reminded me of Other Worlds because the film maker brought in a camera and recorded actual ayahuasca sessions with a shaman in Peru

Sankara didn't believe they were the same, he argued incessantly against Buddhists. I guess he was wrong seeing as you know more than him.

Buddhism focuses on the impermanence and emptiness of phenomena so that you stop grasping at phenomena and giving it substance, reality, and permanence which all cause suffering. Impermanence as I understand it isn't just "passing away", because yes this does sort of imply nihilism.. it's more like changing which includes passing away of one form, and the arising of another, although the difference is only in perception and there is no substance behind the form causing the change. .... Vajrahridaya you word it better. 'flow' is good word to use to describe the impermanent nature of phenomena. phenomena changes fluidly dependent on causes and conditions. the flow of change is all that is, there is no substance or reality behind form.. no source behind form. form just is. constant change

you can download it quite easily if you know how to use bittorrent go to a site like http://www.isohunt.com, search for whatever you want. get the .torrent file (make sure there are seeders (uploaders) get the program bitorrent here http://www.bittorrent.com/btusers/download get this movie player, it plays anything http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ also, if you use file sharing often.. i suggest you install pg2, it blocks IPs from people you don't want connecting to you (like feds, anti-piracy groups) http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ -
Psychedelic Drugs/ Do They Give You Enlightenment?
Sunya replied to DalTheJigsaw123's topic in General Discussion
searching is good, and so is being doubtful. my suggestion is, before asking for directions to get somewhere, figure out where that somewhere is. enlightenment means different things to different people. many people who do LSD think they are enlightened (like a good friend of mine, who thinks he becomes Buddha for 12 hours), they equate enlightenment with bliss, wonder, and a deeper perception into reality. I have a different view on the matter and had interesting experiences experimenting with mescaline, mushrooms, and LSD but they really did nothing for my goal. this was back when I was seeking experiences, and yeah I got some. if you want some mind-blowing experiences.. go for it. just be sure to have a stable meditative foundation first -

do a search man, plenty of past discussions about this i helped you out http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?showtopic=9567 http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?showtopic=4198 as you can tell, iused to have a big interest in psychs, but after experimentation I realized they were entertaining, but nothign to do with enlightenment, you might have to experiment yourself to come to this conclusion though -
isn't the reason why we're all on the spiritual path is to obliterate mystery? don't we all want omniscience? I think science and spirituality are on the same path, science just has some wrong assumptions that need to be corrected, but science isn't a permanent entity, it doesn't exist as a thing. people's minds will change eventually. I don't agree with this. mystery is a facet of ignorance. and it is in our nature to eliminate that ignorance, to strive for perfection and knowing. these are worthy traits. that is very true I think. not everyone has the karma to experience such thing. if the causes and conditions aren't there, then the person will not see anything. just like a blind person will not see an elephant right in-front of him

you're comparing the Dalai Lama with perverted Priests? what point are you trying to make? because I don't see any point to your post. the Tibetans could not eat vegetarian diet because of the barren and arid landscape. it was just too difficult. many modern and young Tibetan teachers, raised outside Tibet, urge peopel to be vegetarian, but the older ones such as the Dalai Lama, and many others, just cannot adapt because their bodies are dependent upon meat for sustenance. what the relation is between this and sexually frustrated Priests is beyond me, but I would love to hear your explanation

all relates to God whatever that word means now subjective meaning

i've heard that Randi's proposal is BS. a lot of fine print. but i'd love to, if I had some crazy super powers, to show up there levitating like Magneto and show them a thing or two. win the money and donate it to charity. zealous atheists really annoy me, i've been to the Randi forums and its really sad how arrogant and closed minded those people are.

its 5/7/5 that was 5/4/5 nice to hear from you long lost friend, my only friend how long has it been?

wow.. you guys are hilarious. thanks for the laughs. as 'bad' as E-Sangha is, i've never seen such immaturity on there, you're both acting like sore losers when there was never a contest to begin with. relax, go meditate or something. for guys with such 'experiential knowledge' you sure come off otherwise

why are you getting into meaningless specifics? Marxism Communism or not, China is communist. every commie regime has used control to curb freedom, whether Marx believed in this or not is of no issue. China was never Marxist maybe, but they were/are indeed Communist/Socialist with capitalist characteristics when did the NWO come into play here? lol. we are talking about China
